Michelle Obama to Announce Food Initiative With Disney Theme Parks
First lady Michelle Obama will appear with Disney CEO Bob Iger in Washington Tuesday to announce an expansion of the media company’s food guidelines. Disney representatives say the corporation will be making health-conscious revisions to menus at their theme parks and resorts, though the details and scope of their implementation are yet to be revealed.”
Disney is the parent company of ABC News.
Michelle Obama has made promotion of nutrition and exercise a major theme of her tenure as first lady, particularly concerning children. The administration says her “Let’s Move” campaign has led 1,500 American schools to adopt healthier menus and fitness programs. Several large food distributors have also partnered with the initiative to cut back on calories in their products or expand their stores into neighborhoods without ready access to healthy foods.
Nor is this her first partnership with Disney. In February the first lady visited ESPN’s Wide World of Sports complex at Disney World to host athletic and dance games for children at the theme park, alongside professional athletes and Disney stars.
Some critics of the president have targeted Michelle Obama’s initiatives for what they view as unneeded government intrusion into their private lives. Last week on “Good Morning America,” the first lady said it was about a larger issue.
“That’s not really what “Let’s Move!” has ever been about,” she said, “This isn’t about government telling people what to do.

I’m sure the shareholders are going to love this. Bob Iger should be fired forthwith for allowing somebody with no expertise in the theme park business tell him what food we ought to have in the parks.

I just can’t shake this suspicion that somewhere, there exists a photo of Michelle at the Pioneer Hall Hoop-Dee-Doo Review (dinner show), stuffing her face with fried chicken, pork ribs and strawberry shortcake.
All that aside, yes Disney does serve over indulgent food, but since very few people go more than once every couple years, and the prices are sky high, I don't really see Disney as the big threat. You can't legislate the fat off people. They have to make that decision themselves. The first step for a lot of people is to get off the defective food pyramid the government has been pushing for 40 years and get on a diet that helps the body perform.

Just go to your local amusement park. I think just about everyone lives within driving distance of one. You can have as much fun there as at Disneyworld, and you avoid the hassles mentioned above.

Never been to a Disney park, and now i have a valid reason. If that control freak is spreading her food control freak garbage there I want nothing to do with it. Trust me, I will be letting everyone know.. heh spread the word and make their choice of food policewoman known far and wide.

That's why I said "for a lot of people" instead of "Michelle Obama" or "the Government" needs to get people. The food pyramid is a product of the "we're here to help" government.
Disney theme parks was on the list of places and businesses to avoid back in 2008 when Obama was elected.
I bet very few people remember the plan of the economic sit down to protest the socialistic Federal takeover.
Obama keeps grabbing a fire hose to put out the brush fires, problem is he hasn’t been told the fire hydrants are not giving him water. Its the people, the grassroots minority are sitting out the economy, its all against Barry.

She is also going after the Food Network, Resturant Impossible chef to add to her string of fools.
Schools are now feeding most kids, so they are mostly at fault. That and food stamps. Ever watch them go through the check out line? JUNK FOOD DELUXE, very little good food in the carts. Cookies, candy, soda, chips, you name the snack and it takes up most of the cart.
Why are food stamp users even able to purchase these products, when laundry soap, bar soap and TP are more important.
Then they get money back and go buy cigs and lottery tickets at the customer counter.
People do not go on vacation to diet.
That looks like a real great piece of junk food she is shoveling into her pie hole.
