More like accepting a "promise" for $10 in cuts for every $1 in new taxes. We've all seen how that works over the decades....always some sort of "crisis" that just REQUIRES this "one-time" extra spending...

If the spending cuts are “promised” forget it. If they are immediate and if the revenue “enhancements” are quickly to sunset I am listening.

Let me guess, Jebbie, son of “no new taxes”: you’d be willing to enact the “revenue increases” immediately and the “spending cuts” would be in the “out years”, say 10 years down the road?

I wouldn’t sign Norquist’s tax pledge either, for two reasons. One is that it’s Grover Norquist, who is as clueless on immigration and pro-Islam as any Bushie. The other reason is that I can’t see why a politician would want to put themselves in a box like that. I oppose tax hikes in general, but might there be some circumstance, some situation where it makes since to go along with some sort of tax hike? I don’t know. I doubt it, but maybe.
You’re right of course about the Bush family, and you can add George P Bush to the list. He’s Jeb’s son, who has a tendency to talk like he’s the head of La Raza. When it comes to immigration, Jeb is (like W) a self-righteous leftist. It’s his views on immigration that should make conservatives most wary of Jeb Bush, not taxes.
So I’m no fan of Jeb. Having said that, I don’t like Grover Norquist either, and conservatives should be wary of him. Norquist is every bit the liberal on immigration that the Bush family is. I’ve despised Norquist ever since I saw him cry when putting forth his liberal views on immigration at a panel televised on CSPAN.
Typical of alleged conservatives who support unending mass immigration, Norquist seems incapable of seeing the obvious truth that mass immigration inevitably pushes the country to the left. It’s amazing how someone so focused on opposing tax hikes can’t see that a low-tax platform holds almost no appeal to the immigrant communities that are growing so rapidly. A more diverse nation will vote increasingly Democratic, and that will inevitably lead to higher taxes.
So yes, conservatives should be wary of Jeb Bush, but taxes aren’t the major reason why. The main reason why is actually something he shares with Norquist...leftwing views on immigration.
Tax hikes are *always* immediately implemented, while true “spending cuts” *never* materialize.
So what Jeb Bush is really saying: “increase taxes”. Period.
I don’t support tax hikes for any reason, however, an honest politician could at least tie a proposed tax hike to an actual reduction in federal debt.
If we elected real conservatives and constitutionalists in a GOP majority, it wouldn’t be much of a stretch to expect politicians such as Jeb Bush and the GOP “presumptive nominee” to quit the “extremist” GOP and cross the aisle, now would it?

I agree that cutting taxes can stimulate the economy, but I think giving the biggest breaks to the top earners has been a mistake, because they are less likely to spend their extra cash. And consumer spending is what the economy needs. I say cut the payroll tax by 50% until the economy has gotten moving again. This would give a tax break directly targeted to those most likely to spend the money immediately.
