The country’s largest evangelical Christian denomination on Friday announced it is reprimanding one of its top officials over comments he made regarding the Trayvon Martin case, pledging to cancel the official’s national radio show.
The trustee committee of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission announced two reprimands on Friday for Richard Land, who leads public policy efforts for the Southern Baptists, according to the official press arm.
The first reprimand was for remarks Land - one of the country's most powerful evangelical leaders - made about the Martin case. The second was because Land lifted some remarks from another source on his radio show without using attribution.
The commission will move to terminate Land’s radio program, “Richard Land Live!” because of the controversy, the Baptist Press reported.
In March, Land spoke of African-American activists and the Rev. Al Sharpton as “racial ambulance chasers” in the Martin case, in which the 17-year-old was shot to death in Florida by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.
“When there is violence it’s going to be Jesse Jackson’s fault,” Land said on his show, according to the Religion News Service. “It’s going to be Al Sharpton’s fault. It’s going to be Louis Farrakhan’s fault, and to a certain degree it’s going to be President Obama’s fault.”

Every Christian preacher should re-read about Peter. He was afraid so he denied Christ. As far as I’m concerned the SBC is afraid. Most preachers are afraid. They all should be standing at the pulpit reading Patrick Henry’s speech.
These are the types of things that lead me to believe the end times are at hand, when even a Christian organization adopts this thinking.

I agree with these remarks. There has been SILENCE from the race-baiters who stirred up a lynch mob mentality with a bounty on Zimmerman's head. There has been SILENCE over the black-on-white crimes of violence as mobs and gangs assault people "in revenge" for Trayvon.
Can't have it both ways. Either you condemn the wrongful actions of all, or shut the hell up until the investigation and trial are over.
It's a JOKE that Al Sharpton was an interview guest in the documentary about how James Brown "saved" Boston by permitting his concert to be telecast LIVE locally (and repeatedly) in the wake of the MLK assassination while pleading for black people to not lose their cool.
Sharpton and Jackson are insults to the legacies of James Brown and MLK.

Apparently, THEY CAN’T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!
All members of the SBC who believe that this is BS should just call the HQ and tell them that they are going to withdraw their financial support and quit their organization. This is the only effective way to beat these moral cowards in line.
Would that those attending the Convention reprimand those on the committee.

Do it and encourage everyone you know to participate. The Chairman of the SBC are spineless cowards wrapping themselves in facade of false decency. What they are doing is an abomination to God.
It will work if a large number of folks put their foot down. It is time to take a stand for righteousness.
Too bad Johnny Hunt wasn't at the head when Land spoke about the Martin case. Now there's a man who will stand up for truth, no matter where it is found or who is speaking!
