An Illinois resident has filed suit against a shooting range, alleging he suffered from diminished hearing after the range failed to provide him with adequate protection.

. .

Owoseni blames Belleville Indoor Shooting Range for contributing to his injuries, saying it negligently failed to provide adequate ear protection, failed to provide adequate sound proofing, failed to keep the shooting range free from defects and failed to warn Owoseni it was allowing another patron to fire a loud gun.

He had rented ear protection. The suit claims it was inadequate. I claim BS. I’m betting he wanted to see what “just one” sounds like without protection. Either he did it to himself or someone let off something like a .454 Casull at the same time he fired.

Failed to warn him that someone else was shooting at a shooting range? For that alone this should be dismissed and he should be fined for stupidity.

Perfect storm:

1) TYPICAL chip on shoulder “minority” looking for a free ride.

2) Most anti-gun state in the union.

3) Adjacent to the most notorious infestation of trial lawyer scum and courts on the planet, the utter cesspool of Madison County, IL.

all ranges I go to post at the door a notice that requires YOU to bring and wear hearing and eye protection while in their ranges...

....most sell plugs and headphones(and safety glasses) to those who forgot them.

but it is your own business and your own fault if you do not wear them, either because you are ornery or just too stupid.

years ago there was no such requirements and i remember plugging my ears with cigarette filters...

heck I have seen R.Lee Ermey on his gun shows plugging his ears with .45ACP empty brass.....

“What sort of hearing protection does the military provide our soldiers in combat?”

This kind:

The challenge appears to be getting them to use it.

My open air range requires both ear and eye protection to be on the range.....no exceptions.

They never gave me anything like that. I’ve used these and the sound-activated check valves work okay when they’re new. Eventually they don’t work as well. Additionaly, a problem is that they restrict background hearing somewhat during non-combat (i.e., big-noise) situations.

Meanwhile, in other legal news...

Mr. Owoseni has filed a lawsuit against his own father and mother, Mr. & Mrs. Rotunde Owoseni, for naming their son “Babatunde”.

It seems Babatunde’s sister, Quartatunde, was able to succesfully sue her parents’ for the same isssue. The court made the elderly Owosenis pay the daughter $50,000, and granted Quartatunde a name change to Quartapounde.

I wont step in a range without doubling up on ear protection. I use wax and muffs rated at 33db reduction. Partly because I have bad tinnitus already and don’t want it getting worse, but I also focus better without the noise and shoot better.

I used to work at a shooting range. Eye and ear protection are mandatory. It's up to the shooter to exercise responsibility for his own hearing and sight protection.

People who can't accept responsibility for themselves should not fool around with firearms!

allowing another patron to fire a loud gun.

Must have been the day I took the Mosin Nagant M44 to the indoor range. Then again, it would have set him on fire too. The lawsuit doesn't mention that.

If nobama had a son who was a nigerian implant who filed frivolous lawsuits at the drop of a hat, he would look just like owosini.

What sort of hearing protection does the military provide our soldiers in combat? Anyone interested in their hearing and anywhere caring about their hearing health will take steps like bringing their own to the shooting range.

We had fitted three ring ear plugs in basic training when I was there in 1972. That was the regular issue back then and we had to wear them in a carrier at all times. Later, we got the fitted ear plugs for loud diesel engines and generators. I used them every time I had to work on equipment. I still have good hearing, but lost some high frequency hearing.

I wore ear plugs and muffs at the range when we were not required to wear helmets. I was on the combat pistol and rifle team and we always wore all the protection available. The new "plugs on a string" are not as effective as the old protection was.
