Detroit street lights may shrink by half
Examiner ^ | 5/24/2012 | Rachel Dillin

Detroit street lights may be going dark soon. At least half of them will no longer shine as the city shrinks. The city has 88,000 streetlights and about 40 percent of those are broken, and the city cannot afford to fix them.

Mayor Dave Bing developed a plan to repair and reduce the street lights in Detroit. Unfortunately, the city is facing reduced population, which has reduced its budget for services like street lights.

Under the new plan, the city would only have 46,000, and ultimately they would save $10 million a year once the changes were made. Of course, not everybody is happy about the changes because some areas will literally be left in the dark.

The sad thing is that things have to change. The city cannot afford to continue maintenance and street lights in areas where very few people live. It is hard, but perhaps they can help shrink the city to a more managable area. The big problem is that criminals can operate easier in the dark.

This will make the Earth People happy since the city will use less electricity.

Oh, good grief. We’re outraged because they don’t keep lights on where no one lives?

Shrink by half?
Half as bright?
Half as tall?
Half as many?

How many can it be when half don’t work anyway?

If the city of Detroit plans to reduce the amount of operational lights to 46,000 then they need to only turn off about 6,800 of them.

Wasn’t it as recent as about 1980 that Detroit was the 5th largest city in the U.S.?

Remarkable to watch a city shrink, like something out of the post-Fall Roman era.

There was another article on this earlier today that went deeper into the mayors reasoning for this action. I can’t find the article, and it’s frustrating, because the reasoning is to force the populace to consolidate in the city. To force the populace to move into the lit areas for security, and for their own good.

It isn’t of the same title, but the story is the same, but with the backstory, as well some supporting information concerning some important Leftist movers, and shakers that want to take the theory beyond detroit, and make it a national cause.

I can’t find it. Hopefully somebody else was wise enough to put it to their ‘puter, or at least a link.

I find this dreadful. The real purpose of the central planners is to force people in declining areas to move to more populated areas. By turning the lights out, the feral youth will be attracted to these less populated areas to prey on those living there. Crime in these areas will increase until the only people left in these areas will be the criminals. Almost all affected by this are black. This is very, very wrong.
