In any exciting turn of events, on Saturday night Governor Scott Walker (R-WI) received the endorsement from the liberal Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, the largest newspaper in Wisconsin.
No governor in recent memory has been so controversial. No governor in America is so polarizing. Everyone has an opinion about Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin.
Here's ours: We see no reason to remove Walker from office. We recommend him in the June 5 recall election.
Walker's rematch with Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett was prompted by one issue: Walker's tough stance with the state's public-employee unions. It's inconceivable that the recall election would be occurring absent that. And a disagreement over a single policy is simply not enough to justify a vote against the governor.
A Marquette Law School Poll in January showed that many people in the Badger State agree. In that poll, 72% of Republicans, 44% of independents and 17% of Democrats said recalls should be limited to criminal wrongdoing. Republican state Rep. Robin Vos has proposed tightening the recall mechanism; he should continue to push for that after the election, regardless of who wins.
Shortly after the endorsement went viral, the Weekly Standard’s Stephen Hayes tweeted that the Wisconsin governor had actually informed him last Monday he didn’t think the Journal-Sentinel would endorse. Apparently, however, the editorial team has had a change of heart.
It's time to end the bickering and get back to the business of the state. We've had our differences with the governor, but he deserves a chance to complete his term. We recommended him in 2010. We see no reason to change that recommendation. We urge voters to support Walker in the June 5 recall election.
In any event, according to the most recent Marquette University poll, Scott Walker holds a sizable six point lead over his Democratic challenger Tom Barrett. Still, it remains to be seen how much – if at all – the endorsement will influence voters on Election Day.
Parting thought: If Walker loses the recall election, he would only be the third state governor in American history to be ousted from office. Let’s pray that doesn’t happen.
This means that the JS thinks Walker will win, and they want to be on the winning side.

I hate to being forced into being so cynical, but you are exactly right. Had the recent polling shown Walker behind, and had the DNC not bailed, I’m quite certain the MJS would have found ample reason to twist its support for Barrett.

Remember the recall that we all cheered in another state? Ahhrnold took over for the odious lefty Gray Davis. But as bad as Davis was, Ahhrnold was far worse. He attacked his fellow Republicans (Palin), spent state money like gangbusters (the bio-tech initiative) and THOROUGHLY discredited the Republican name.
This guy Walker, however, seems like the real dead.

Betcha the union thug leadership is pissed...I'n sure they thought the leading paper would fall in line....I see a strike n their future...
I hope that after Walker’s governorship, he seeks national public office. The guy seems to be the “real deal” Conservative.
Having said that, I look for someone to point out his “imperfections”.
They’re cutting their loses on this one in order to stop public sector union whining about DNC $$$$$$$ not coming to help in WI.
This deflection (”shouldn’t be removed for a single policy”) is being sent as a message nationally: this issue has been temporarily lost and that with no out for them, it only rallies the conservative base.
Because Scott Walker did not fold, he won this battle.
Gov. Walker believes in keeping his focus on the horizon of why he was elected and not on the choppy water of liberal discontent meant to crush his resolve.

Case in point... This past week the Milwaukee Police Department held a memorial service for all the police officers killed in duty over the past year. This is an event that should not be missed by the mayor of Milwaukee, but Barrett couldn't bother showing up because he was out "campaigning". (A slap in the face to police officers for Milwaukee.) Scott Walker was in attendance. The Journal/Sentinel never even mentioned the absence of Barrett.
They stopped being a relevant newspaper years ago.
Putting principle over profit is an alien concept to the Dinosaur media. Wonder how they will deal with all the cancelled subscriptions from their mostly liberal readers?
