BANJIEHE, China -- A Chinese farmer has invented a wind-powered, electric car that he says could save his country from the pollution caused by its rapidly growing car market.
An hour from downtown Beijing, the dusty village of Banjiehe looks an unlikely place to produce scientific innovation. Its rows of brick, utilitarian houses are surrounded by cornfields and fruit trees.
But in a small tractor workshop, 55-year-old farmer Tang Zhenping has invented the prototype of a car that he believes could revolutionize China's auto industry.
Tang's model -- built in just three months for around US$1,600 -- is electric

This could bring the word “becalmed” back into the common-usage lexicon...
I think this fella is on to something
Thsi looks like a scam they would sell on a late-night info-mercial, like Extenz.
Paging Red Badger.....paging Red Badger
These people ride bicycles. This is a step up??
Why not just retrofit a sail on all US cars? Obama could make it mandatory & mandate union wages to upgrade...

Looks like a “Red Green Show” creation.
As usual you just can’t believe a headline. This car is battery powered.
I saw this story a week ago. It is like something that might have been on the cover of Popular Science in the 1950’s, before people could easily research and identify it as BS within roughly five minutes. Maybe China is a bit behind.
I think I saw this on the Flintstones once.
I agree he’s on to something. All the Newtonian luddites stuck in the 1600s can flame on, but I think eventually we will have tiny generators that can derive electricity from just about any motion. And yes, even sexual motion.
I would think the wind resistance to operate the turbine would offset any energy gained from its operation.
OMG, this just shows the sorry state of our educational system.
You cannot generate power by robbing energy from a vehicle that you are powering in the first place. You just end up with losses.
What a buffoon! And what a bunch a buffoons at FoxNews for falling for it.
—I would think the wind resistance to operate the turbine would offset any energy gained from its operation.—
No shi@ Sherlock. (No offense)
The whole thing is laughable. Next we’ll have an article from china about a guy pulling up in a wagon and selling a miracle elexer that cures everything. Lame 19th century old-west reference...
The more sophisticated the culture, the more complex the ruse must be. That is why I referred to the 1950’s Popular Science. If this was on the cover of a modern one, they would get laughed out of existence.
I mean, clearly this vehicle is really being powered by a “controllable gravitational focus receiver”. The Propeller is just a scam because it looks really cool.
As do the fins.
Americans were way more accepting of cheap green energy hoaxes when GWBush was POTUS then with now Obama. Part of it is political dynamics between what each party symbolizes, the other is that now people have seen many of these ideas really fail with increasing energy prices and rising deficits. .
This is how we got ethanol, toxic (WMD) light-bulbs, battery powered cars that are useless and expensive and solar panels more expensive than anyone will pay.
When Bush was POTUS many Americans would say things like :”We don't know it won't work because it hasn't been tried”, the other was :”We can save money no-matter how expensive it is because we won't need our military anymore” (Dems were making that argument then.)
Could perhaps be got around as a motorcycle with training wheels?
The reporterette must be as dumb as a bag of feng shuei.
The Laws of Thermodynamics will not be mocked!...........
So, building and driving these cars gets you Natalie Portman in yer back seat?
Who knew?
I thought the fins were a nice touch..........
Bingo.
Perpetual motion devices are still frowned upon by the Patent Office.
All the Newtonian luddites stuck in the 1600s can flame on, but I think eventually we will have tiny generators that can derive electricity from just about any motion. And yes, even sexual motion.

Maybe my reference to 1950’s Popular Science were not off base. The designer may have been thinking the same thing. ;-)
Or he’s been to Cuba..............
Possibly. What's Sahara? (assuming you don't mean the desert in Africa).
Wouldn't it make more sense to streamline the nose of the car and reduce the air friction instead of trying to recapture the energy through a “turbine” that looks surprisingly like an old three speed fan?
The fan only helps at speeds above 40mph so for stop and go commuting it is worthless.
I think this is simply “a very cheap form of Nissan Leaf”
Basically, you have a lightweight battery powered car. Only instead of regenerative braking via electric motor/generator, you have regenerative braking via a cheap windmill.
What is probably in the nose is a copper wire cage housing over magnetic fan blades. First what would normally be wind resistance blowing thru a radiator is now harnessed into extending the battery charge and furthermore when you want to slow down, you charge the battery by increasing the load on the fan blades.
It is design being proposed for back yard wind generators in the US which is basically magnetized fan blades housed inside a copper wire cage.
Is that the car?
I like it. If one lives somewhere windy without snow, that in fact, would be a feasible way to get from point A, to point B, even if gas were $100 / gallon.
I would think the wind resistance to operate the turbine would offset any energy gained from its operation.
Give this guy a break! Don’t let laws of physics ruin this Chinaman’s dream. This could change the world.
Haha now I see, the blue “wind powered” car is the one in the article. The car in post 12, should be in the article. At least the car in post 12, actually works by means of wind power.
What a scam the article is!
It’s a “perpetual motion machine”. The car moving, powers the motor by the wind blowing the fan on the front???
For crying out loud. How dumb are journalists?
—Or hes been to Cuba....—
Hahaha! I saw the Buena Vista Social Club video by Ry Cooder and there was a lot of documentary footage of Cuba. It was hilarious. Car wise, it was like they went back to around 1962. It was really cool, actually.
Oh, but the theocracy of nothing will not tolerate that!
Everything sprang out of nothing. Life then sprang out of the non-existent also. So getting more energy out than you put in is a fact to them.
Ya gotta admit the Atheocratists have a lot of faith in nothing.
I remember back when the Obozo people were just getting started in the early days of 2009. There was a meeting of some of the Obozo people and the representatives of the energy sector industry. The topic was some renewable green energy plan and one of the representatives of the energy sector said that the administration’s plan goes against the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
The Obozo head honco replied, “Who passed THAT law? We’ll get it repealed.”...........
