Romney rejects using the Rev. Jeremiah Wright against Obama

Mitt Romney says he rejects efforts to use President Barack Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, in ads attacking the president, insisting the campaign should remain focused on the economy.

"I repudiate the effort by that PAC to promote an ad strategy of the nature they've described," Romney said in an interview with Townhall.com. "I would like to see this campaign focus on the economy, on getting people back to work, on seeing rising incomes and growing prosperity—particularly for those in the middle class of America."

Well, I am sure he is saying he repudiates the tactic, but I seriously doubt he will work too hard to stop the PAC from using it.

Romney is likely doing the right thing with this strategy.

Obama will ONLY lose due to economic conditions. Nothing else. If I were Romney’s campaign manager, I would hammer Obama exclusively on jobs, unemployment, inflation, gas prices, plunging house values, jobs fleeing oversees, coal plants closing.

I would hammer Obama on the economy and ONLY on the economy.

On all social issues, the battle lines are drawn and Romney is not going to catch any independents as a result of harping about social issues, but may scare some voters off by bringing up their sacred cows.

If I am Romney, I hammer Obama ONLY on the economy. If I am losing the last month before the election, I can use the last month to spring all of the other issues on Obama.

I still think hammering Obama on social issues right down to gay marriage and abortion, is just a losing strategy.

I would focus on the economy like a laser, to the exclusion of all else. I would just mercilessly hammer on jobs, unemployment, wages, foreclosures, credit availability, food and gas prices, electricity rates.

Wow, an entire thread full of Freepers who can’t get it through their thick skulls that nothing matters this election except,

“It’s the economy, stupid”.

Thank goodness none of you is advising RINOmney.

Just a hint before I go.

“IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID”.

“IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID”.

“IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID”.

“IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID”.

“IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID”.

“IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID”.

“IT’S THE ECONOMY, STUPID”.

Nasty, unscrupulous campaigning against fellow Republicans is one thing that Mittens knows all about.

Attack strategies against Obama, though it certainly would be familiar territory for the Mass.Moderate, isn’t going to be HIS DECISION.

It’ll be the GOP-E who unleashes the PACs...or not. And if the pitbulls are let out of the cage, we already know that Willard will claim ignorance like he did in the primary...so as to remain above the fray.

Now knowing what we do about the GOP-E, does anyone expect them to do the right thing(for once) and go after BO with oozies?
I would guess they will screw it up, just like they do everything else.

It would have an effect if Wright was saying things specifically about Obama. If it’s just clips of Wright and then the statement that Obama attended his church, people would call it guilt by association and Obama would claim he wasn’t there when Wright did those sermons like he said before. Now maybe if something creative could be done like finding lines in Wright’s sermons that correspond with things Obama’s said or done, that might have an effect.

Wright is (the past few days) specifically saying things about Hussein. That, and Wright is not just the guy running the church he was Hussein's spiritual advisor and mentor by his own admission. So, I do think there exists a guilt by way of strong association(mentor) here.

“If I were Romney’s campaign manager, I would hammer Obama exclusively on jobs, unemployment, inflation, gas prices, plunging house values, jobs fleeing oversees, coal plants closing.”

Right, he has no defence of his record on the economy, except “It was much worse than I thought it was when I took office” or “Things would have been much worse if I hadn’t fought for the stimulus

A weak lame excuse that will play into Romney’s hands. Make him look like a weak amateur to the voting public.
The American voter right now wants normalcy and a positive and realistic plan that willimprove the economy. Give them that and Romney will win.

“So Romney is committed to losing just as McCain and Dole were before him.”

I don’t think so. Romney’s MO has always been to smear his opponets through a 3rd party while keeping his own petticoats clean. The statement only serves to distance Romney from the smear campaign the PACs are about to unleash against Obama.

As much as I throughly detest Romney, I have to admit that he plays hardball behind the scenes (look what he did to both Gingrich and Santorum in the primaries)......count on his surrogates to push the 2012 campaign into the sty. Obama is about to get seriously muddy (or have his facade of lies taken down). As I said above, as much as I dislike Romney, it’ll be fun watching him give Obama a good mud bath. Can’t wait to hear both Obama and the media to squeal!

Now if we can just get him to extend his middle finger at Obama in the same manner that Obama did at McCain in 2008 Presidential debates I might even change my mind and vote for Mittens....(not)!

I think we see it about the same way. Obama can’t win on his record. The election is Romney’s to lose if he makes some bone headed idiotic mistakes. If he stays on message about the economic pain of the masses under Obama, he should win.
