WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. Army leaders have begun to study the prospect of sending women soldiers to the service's prestigious Ranger school - another step in the effort to broaden opportunities for women in the military.
Gen. Raymond Odierno, Army chief of staff, says he's asked senior commanders to provide him with recommendations and a plan this summer.

Dumbest idea yet!
Dumbest idea would be to send to fags there.
Lax requirements there, too?
WTF. RLTW.
Don’t be in a hurry to create another Kara Hultgreen.
Rangerettes! Don’t think so.
I would be fine with that, provided women recruits were held to the EXACT SAME standards as the men, and the standards were not lowered to get some acceptable number of women through.
“Gen. Raymond Odierno, Army chief of staff, says he’s asked senior commanders to provide him with recommendations and a plan this summer.”
Gee, recommendations and a plan...sounds like they’re not trying to determine WHETHER women ought to be allowed to go, but HOW they’re going to modify the program so women can artificially pass.
Sounds, in fact, a lot like the DADT repeal “survey” we had to take a couple of years ago...
Colonel, USAFR
See my #10 - great minds, my FRiend!
Who was that woman and what happened?
Already been done.

.
Bank on that. This is a done deal and they are just working out the details. Does anyone - ANYONE - believe they will recommend against this?
Oh, and by the way, anybody else see how this dovetails with Obama’s campaign theme of the war on women? Do you think Obama just might be setting up Conservatives to oppose this? Naah...
Fully expect that if this comes to pass. Several new candidates will fall victim to ‘accidents’ during training. Regardless of which DACOWITS committee member is shepherding them.
Which is what training is for.
Better there than on the battlefield.
An incompetant BITCH who crashed her F-14 into USS Abraham Linciln (CVN-72) and killed herself and her RIO and “crashed” the careers of some FINE Naval Officers/Aviators(Blowback from Tailhook ‘91).
“An incompetant BITCH who crashed her F-14 into USS Abraham Linciln (CVN-72) and killed herself and her RIO and crashed the careers of some FINE Naval Officers/Aviators(Blowback from Tailhook 91).” Did I mess anything?
I’ve got a buddy who is a long time instructor at the local police academy. He has always been in charge of administering the the fitness tests to potential recruits. We were discussing the fitness tests applicants have to go through (ie. x amount of push-up in 60 seconds, etc, etc) and I was surprised to find that recruits aren’t asked to do any pull ups. He said it used to be a requirement that one be able to do at least 5 pull ups but they drooped pull ups from the test altogether because in two years there had never been a female applicant who could do a single pull up.
miss
Fortunately, no one in that police force will ever be required by law to protect a citizen of the jurisdiction, no harm, right?
Plan: Get rid of every PC, equality-of-sexes, Muzzie-accommodating, homo-lovin’ social experimentation policy in DoD.
DRILL DRILL SARGENT: "OK, ladies drop down and give me 5."
Does that mean doing away with the US “Air Force”? JUST KIDDING!
The Navy brass pushed her through Pensacola even though she failed most or all of her qualifying tests, just to get a woman on active flight status in a F-14.
SEAL training too? God help us.
A female Navy Aviator who perished when she botched a carrier landing approach and then performed a manoeuvre that was contrary to training; this manoeuvre caused her aircraft to lose thrust on one of its two engines; she then fired the afterburner on remaining functional engine in an attempt to replace the lost thrust, and this action caused the aircraft to spin out of control. She ejected into the water and was killed instantly.
She had lots of firsts, however. Her last, final, first was a tough one to swallow. In a manner of speaking.
Is nothing sacred?
RLTW!
She was an affirmative action “naval aviator” who was pushed to the carrier flight program so the girlies could build their “self-esteem”, and because she was unqualified, she got herself and her navigator killed.
Well, you know, the bad guys up in the mountains’ll give ‘em a pass as long as they try real hard.
Sheesh.
You’re asking for trouble!
You haven't seen the Kilgore College Rangerettes, have you?
I just don't see how it can be done without significantly altering the course or making radical exceptions for the females.
“women recruits were held to the EXACT SAME standards as the men, and the standards were not lowered”
Yep I agree..
Now that the sodomites and lesbians are officially ordained, the Pentagon will never pass up an opportunity to direct the services towards humanist social alchemy and social engineering.
The Ranger sub-culture that ensures victory demands totalitarian mental and physical harshness to overcome their chaotic, barbaric, and brittle environments. The question is not whether women can meet some newly fabricated minimum set of qualifications, but whether they can join the few exceeding the expectations of accomplished combat infantrymen.
My son is a former Marine and my war was with the Navy in Vietnam. We both discourage anyone who asks about joining the military. Victory and the warrior ethic are no longer important values.
“SEAL training too?”
#######
Of course.
The camel’s nose is already under the tent.
When the magnificent USMC went PC, I knew we were finished.
Won’t be the FIRST TIme!
I have a friend who lost an engine at the end of his roll in a take-off from a flight deck. He managed the situation correctly, saving his life and his RIO’s life, but he wasn’t a worthless AA pilot.
I say any gal who wants to do that, who can physically qualify and who will take the buzz cut... best of luck to her. There is still the “chivalry” problem, though, in a coed deployment. Guys will take chances to protect the gals that they might forego for the sake of brothers.
You didn’t miss much. When the objective is equality then quality will fail at some point. When the objective is quality you will see a measure of equality where it is merited.
Big mistake.

Her regimen is a brutal, six- (sometimes seven) day-a-week mix of roller skiing, biking, running and strength training. Pull-ups are a fairly unpleasant experience for most humans, but the ones Ms. Randall does resemble a form of medieval torture. She straps on a belt with a chain dangling from it and attaches a 60-pound weight to it. Or she’ll pull herself up with such power that she is able to clap her hands above the bar and then grab it to slowly lower herself. Eight is her record.
All of that and a very nice smile!
Yeah, and the U.S. navy issues bottoms with nametags over the buttocks so that Seamen will remember the name of who they were with the night before.
Rum Sodomy and the Lash - as Winston Churchill would have it.
USAF!!!! ;)
He says if women are eventually allowed to serve in the infantry, they would have to go to Ranger school in order to be competitive with their male counterparts as they move through the ranks.
Going to Ranger school does not automatically mean they would be allowed to serve in one of the Army's three elite Ranger battalions, which are Army special operations forces. Women are not allowed to serve as special operators.
“and her navigator killed.
I thought her RIO survived. He saw what was happening and punched out; she would have flown that thing all the way to the water screaming.
This is, simply put, the most asinine proposal of the century.
All it will accomplish will be to relax the standards for our most elite military groups and make liberals “feel good”.
We can’t get the boy emperor out of office fast enough.
I was in the F-14 Community(VF-111) as an TARPS Intel Analyst 1988-1991, had a front row seat to the carnage my Navy inflicted upon itself as a result of Tailhook ‘91.
I think he died, but I could be wrong.
Now it’s two on one.
