DENVER A bill to legally recognize civil unions in Colorado has been voted down by the State Veterans & Military Affairs Committee during a special session of the Colorado Legislature.
The 5-4 vote was along party lines.
The bills defeat doesnt come as a surprise to many. House Speaker Frank McNulty (R-Highlands Ranch) assigned the bill to the State Veterans & Military Affairs Committee Monday morning, a move that most say saw as a strategy to kill the bill early in the special session.
In a statement released by the Colorado House Democrats, the committee performed the kill committee role it has played throughout the year for McNulty.
Of course Im disappointed, said House Democratic Leader Mark Ferrandino, the sponsor of the civil unions bill. I feel bad for the thousands who will have to wait awhile longer to enjoy the same rights and responsibilities that most committed Colorado couples take for granted.

The proper remedy for this issue is NOT to have the corrupt and despotic State legislature—nor the Federal Government press Sodomy and fornication upon all of us. Legitimizing the
immorality. We the people of Colorado Voted NO! to Ref. I -Civil Unions— if the Reprobate Ferrendino is right then even a queer ought be able to see the People voted NO! to Civil Unions it is only Right for the people to vote to either reject that legal vote— or to affirm it. But for the Reprobates to use the despotic Democratic Party to make us all as Sodom and like unto Gomorrah is evil and tyrannical.(to borrow from Thomas Jefferson)
As I understand it, there are a few GOP legislators that have earned a primary challenge?
If only Boehner had the moxie that Colorado’s Speaker McNulty has!
Yea, Boehner has been a huge disappointment
Someone needs to ask Ferrandino why he and his fellow dems didn’t make this an issue when they controlled the house, the senate and the governor’s office.
