Obama Announces Plans to Repeal Defense of Marriage Act
Gawker | Monday, May 14, 2012 | Louis Peitzman

Source link. Click at your own risk.

You spoke too soon, Rand Paul. It sounds like the President's views on marriage just got even gayer.

Somewhat buried in CNN's story on Barack Obama's fundraiser in New York is this little tidbit about his administration's plans for marriage equality—

He also outlined goals he hopes to accomplish under a second term, including the repeal of the Defense Of Marriage Act, which the administration has already stopped defending.

This is the first time Obama has said that he wil actively work to repeal the law.

At the fundraiser, hosted by openly gay pop star Ricky Martin, Obama called same-sex marriage the "right thing to do." He also said that contrary to what many rightwing pundits have alleged, marriage equality will help families.

Much of Zero’s support is black. Blacks, by a large margin don’t like queers. No, they won’t go vote for Romney, they just won’t go vote. That will hurt Zero. Some of the black churches have already renounced this, and those are the ones that vote, by large, not the street gangsta’s.

The House should have convened Impeachment hearings 5 minutes after Obama announced he wouldn’t defend DOMA. It’s a clear violation of the Oath of Office.

I agree. I don’t understand why he gets away with so much.
He cannot repeal this law without Congress.

History isn’t written in inevitabilities. Unexpected turning points pepper our past profusely. Otherwise, we would have been extinct millenia ago.

And these turning points are supernatural in nature.

Is Obama really married? Is the wookie part of his “gay cover”? Should we have guessed why she goes on long trips alone? For Obama to defend marriage (which was a sacrament long before it was a law) would be the nadir of a corrupt spirit. Obama is corrupt to the core.

Everyone in Congress is a gutless coward. They are afraid of the half-black in the White House; they are afraid of the 2% queer population. The question is 'why'..?

Because they'd be called racists and homophobes so they cave. Myself, I don't care, I'd just do what is right and just tell the name callers to FOAD.

That might work in 1980. This is 2012. America has become much more morally corrupt since that time. Look all around us. The demographics bear this out, the popular culture bears this out. The decent people have died off of old age. The people without moral courage in the middle have gone along with the change(s) for the worse, like accepting homosexuality openly. And more people have been born and grew up in an environment of no morals, Milleninals, Gen X, etc.. What I am saying is not to abandon them (those moral principles) and indeed speak up on them when appropriate. For example, I hear the GOP will run anti-gay marriage ads in certain key districts that are socially conservative but also perhaps blue collar Democrat. What I AM saying is figure out what the enemy, the DNC/White House/Mass Media wants us to do, and do the opposite. They want us to concentrate around social issues solely, in which case with a perverted American majority they will clean our clock, and they want us to get off the issues of unemployment, deficit, taxes, fuel costs and running the country into the ground fiscally, which they can be completely routed. Believe me, this is tactic I am talking. We get into office, then we clean out the den of inquity. But you gotta get in there first. There were three cards the Obamanists were going to use on us to keep us from knocking him out of office. The Racist Card. The Anti-Woman Card. And the Bigot or Bullying Card. We should be careful not to give them any of these cards, as contrived and full of hot air as they are. Working fist and glove with the media, they can create a narrative to knock out anti-Obama forces in battleground states. This would be my concern.

Where exactly does this madness end?

Ther is no amicable solution. It's us or them.

Homos like to say they want "equality", but deep down, they consider themselves superior in every way. They reject God, and put themselves in His place. Thus their thoughts are little else but error, and destruction will be the result, one way or another. See: Sodom

So you ask, how can you have morality without god? Simple: We all have human apathy/empathy and that gives me my moral compass. I care for people, especially good people. That's enough for me. Address the political issues or take your religious stuff to the proper forum, please.

I thnk #58 is the exact response Republicans should make while at the same time expressing their support for traditional marriage whenever asked. Then steer back to the economy as the most important issue on the minds of Americans. People are going to go back to what feels normal to them and the gay marriage pushing socialist working to transform America is not it. Americans are realizing more and more what Obama meant by transforming America, and they don’t like it. Even if they don’t know exactly why, they sense the change in America, and it makes them uncomfortable and nervous. Romney just needs to present himself as a return to normal.

“The gay community wants to be accepted as “normal” so badly . It’s never going to happen no matter how hard they try.”

It’s interesting that gay culture for years was proudly counterculture and still is in most ways, but the movement for oxymoronic gay marriage is a desire for something absolutely traditional. It is illogical as is much of the left.

If scripture and tradition are disqualified as a standard, why only TWO people and why only people?

Of the remaining 19 states does anyone know how many legally allow gay marriage?

How does this square with Obama's claim --just a couple of days ago-- that he supports the rights of the STATES to decide this issue?

Isn't it logically impossible to
(a) support the right of states to either endorse or deny "gay" marriage within their own jurisdictions, but then to
(b) make it un-Constitutional for states to do this very thing?

Wouldn't declaring DOMA to be un-Constitutional (as Obama has done) effectively deny states their right to determine this issue for themselves?

This is a well organized, well thought out move that makes zero sense politically. We've got to understand why.

The Economic Case for Same-Sex Marriage

Take a read of this poorly thought out treatise on the history of marriage and why it's time to switch. What's the end game here? Does this kind of bad thinking pass with the next generation? What are we missing?

Does this also mean that States with Laws against Siblings and First Cousins Marrying will have those Laws overthrown as well?

Some states permit first cousins to marry; others do not. I believe that even states which do not allow first cousins to marry would expect first cousins who took up residence after getting married elsewhere to file as a married couple.

On the other hand, there is something I find curious about "civil union" legislation--if it is supposedly about allowing people who are not eligible to be married to nonetheless receive non-sexual benefits like expedited probate, property divisions, hospital visitation, etc. why do civil-union laws specifically restrict it to unrelated persons? If it "isn't about sex", why shouldn't a brother and sister who share one roof (but not one bed) be able to designate that if one dies the other simply acts as the surviving household member as would be done with a spouse?
