Romney: Gay couples should have right to adopt
The Washington Post ^ | May 10, 2012 | Felicia Sonmez

Posted on 05/10/2012 6:38:57 PM PDT by Free ThinkerNY

Former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney (R) said Thursday that he believes gay couples should be allowed to adopt children, even as he reiterated his view that marriage is defined as a relationship between a man and a woman.

In an interview with Neil Cavuto of Fox Business Network, Romney was asked whether he believes the gay marriage debate is a new civil rights movement, as some Democrats have framed the issue.

“I don’t see it in that light,” Romney responded. “I believe my record as a person who has supported civil rights is strong and powerful. At the same time, I believe that marriage has been defined the same way for literally thousands of years by virtually every civilization in history and that marriage is by its definition a relationship between a man and woman.”

He added that “if two people of the same gender want to live together, want to have a loving relationship, even want to adopt a child — in my state, individuals of the same sex are able to adopt children. In my view, that’s something which people have the right to do, but to call that marriage is, in my view, a departure from the real meaning of the word.”

Romney, the Etch-a-Sketch candidate, thinks mentally unbalanced homo “couples” should be allowed to adopt children.
What a scumbag.

don’t want to debate theology, just wondering where all the hatred comes from.
By the way, I’m not a big supporter of gay rights or gay adoption, I’m just concerned about all those kids out there going to waste.

Told ya lib Romney would be doing this.

Well if gays are going to adopt then that kills the argument against same sex marriage.

As Obama says: Malia and Sasha come home from school and want to know why their friend’s two daddies, or their two mommies, don’t have the ‘right to marry’ like the Obama’s did.
But Romney thinks its great for kids to have two mommies or two daddies.

This is how progressives make progress.

There is already a very high demand for adoptable children. Allowing gays to adopt would just make it more difficult for normal couples to adopt.

In any case you would expose children who have already come from traumatic situations into world of mental illness. With families consisting of a man who pretends to be a woman or a woman who pretends to be a man, these children will have no hope of ever being raised normally.

Then you have the predatory gays who adopt babies to pass around to their friends and molest them. There is nothing about this situation that is beneficial to children. Why would anyone want to subject a child to this.

We have thrown tens of thousands of dollars at it, so piss off. I’ve seen gay couples adopt and at least they are saving lives.

You Don’t even want to know... from classes to years of evaluations. And we are in a Conservative state. Like in most states you have to be dependent on the government to be part of the government (ie foster) system.

40 plus years ago, my wife and I became foster parents in the bluest of blue states (Illinois). Tomorrow at 1:00 P.M. at the Tazewell County Court House, in Pekin, Illinois, we are having our final adoption hearing for 2 of them. We've been their legal guardians for the past 4 years, brother and sister, ages now, are 12 and 13.

I expect all to go well and I'll be posting a vanity with pictures tomorrow night.

Our income is similar to your stated income.

We have 4 adult children, 14 grand children and 4 great grand children. Add 2 more after tomorrow.

“The libtards are trying to kill off Mitt’s chances at rallying a conservative base.”

Yes, the media is in full Obama protection mode and will be boosting Obama and throwing a blizzard of cr*p about Romney out there to make people like him less.

Romney-hating freepers will repost this and feed the left’s narratives and aid their Obama re-election goals.

Pointless. Dumb. And helping Obama.

If Romney wins, then this will be the official position of "severe conservatives". This is why Romney getting elected may be worse for the Republic than another 4 failed years of Obama.

No matter what, I cannot vote for either Romney or Obama.

I don't have to stand before the GOP leadership when I die. I will have to answer to a higher authority.

I don’t agree. Do you remember the Duke University gay, part of a so called “loving gay couple” who adopted a baby boy, then got on line and offered the one year old around the internet to gay men to molest. This continued for years until a cop working undercover found out and had him arrested.

People who identify themselves by sexually degenerate practices have mental problems. I don’t believe children should be placed into the homes of the mentally defective.

Those are not the choices. Women do not abort because there are not enough adopters.

Liberal on evolution, liberal on homosexuality.

People claim to be liberal in one confined area. “Oh, I just believe this one thing about evolution, but otherwise I’m a hardcore conservative”, they say. Bull. Wet in one area, wet in others.

So like you, we should ignore Romney's proclamation that he volunteered on video today on Cavuto’s program? Cavuto didn't ask him if he supported gay adoption. Romney volunteered, no bragged about his support of gay adoption. Are we just supposed to ignore it because he has an R behind his name? Put away your pom-poms and stand on the side of the kids—against Romney and the perverts.

Speaking from our own experience, our daughter had a male friend from high school who was raised by two lesbians. He became a basket case, and we lost touch with him several years ago. But it wouldn’t surprise me at all to learn that he comitted suicide. I mean, this kid was really messed up.

But you are cherry picking the evidence. I could throw out hundreds of cases of heterosexual people doing the same or worse. I’m not a proponent of gay adoption, but I feel all guilt or blame can’t be placed just upon gay people because they are gay. The effects of divorce have had a far more detrimental effect upon family life than gay adoption.

The media will have opportunities galore because Mitt will make sure they have plenty. This is the real Mitt Romney. Back in 2002, he called a marriage amendment too extreme because it outlawed civil unions as well as defining marriage as a man and woman only. Mitt Romney has believed that gays should be allowed in the military for years. Although he “says” he is for the protection of traditional marriage, he is the governor who is responsible for gay marriage in the state of Massachusetts.

As long as the campaign continues on social issues, the republicans will find themselves in an unfamiliar position — taking the low road because Romney will be found wanting.

There are many children who are aging out while languishing in foster care that very few heteros are adopting because of the emotional scars and special needs that come with adopting these children. Thankfully, there are decent homosexual couples stepping up to the plate left empty by the heteros. Is it the best thing for them? No. Every child deserves a mommy AND a daddy. But with so few (heteros) making themselves available, the next best thing is a homosexual couple or a single mother or father. Before condemming our gay brothers and sisters (they’re children of God, too, remember?) for getting “in the same line” to adopt children, perhaps we should be asking why so many straight couples are not getting in line in the first place? BTW, I’m a mother of 4 special needs children that I adopted through foster care and have been married to my dear husband for over 20 years. I’ve been a foster parent for 15. Pretty much have seen it all. The gay couples I have worked with are very nice people who love thier adopted children and have given them a stable home. Optimal? No. Stable and loving? Yes.

Straight couples use thier children horribly, too. I prefer not to paint everybody with the same broad brush. There are bad people everywhere, gay or straight.

“I do not favor marriage between people of the same gender, and I do not favor civil unions if they are identical to marriage other than by name”

-Romney

Let’s just say he’s not credible on that. He admits he wants homosexuals to have “domestic partnership benefits, hospital visitation rights and the like.” He also thinks homosexual couples should be able to adopt children and clearly supports civil unions so long as they aren’t “identical” to marriage.

Civil unions, domestic partner benefits (taxes, insurance, etc), hospital visitation rights, adoption, and the like. So how is this not marriage in all but name?????
