I checked his web site a few minutes ago and did not see anything. But if Patrick is backing Dewhurst that carries weight with me.

I would like to see Patrick as lt Gov too.

IMHO Dewhurst is acceptable in the US Senate, he would be more conservative than most of the Senators there. Plus he is an experienced legislator. I know very little about Cruse, other then Sarah likes him, but Sarah liking him mean a lot to me too. Guess I will have to start paying attention. lol

Please keep in mind that the franchise tax itself IS an income tax!

Not really, but it is still a tax. I'm a small business here and familiar with the franchise tax. So, for me, it is a tax on my , which is not good, but it isn't an income tax - which is what was claimed. A true income tax would have a much broader impact, negatively, on the state's economy.

What is frustrating is the time it takes to research candidate's ad claims to approach the truth. It seems it is pretty bad on both sides in this one.

Thanks much for the articles. I still have mixed feelings, but at least I’m better informed.

Dewhurst is flooding the media with the Cruz/Chinese attack ad; DeMint endorsement means a lot to me, more than Palin’s.

thanks again.

I believe that it was Dewhurst who caved to the feds when it came to a TSA issue at DFW.

I call him a RINO.

Cruz is a solid conservative.

After reading the articles, I believe my business will still not see an increase in taxes.

Larger and different corporations would. And, I believe, these are the very types that can, should and do pass on increased costs to consumers of their products.

So I do understand your point.

There has to be some taxes and, in this case, the property/sales tax situation had to be revised, some something had to give. I would rather be cutting more spending, but Texas does run a tighter ship than most.

If it weren’t for David Dewhurst, and David Dewhurst alone, Texas would have had a voter ID bill passed fully TWO years before it finally did pass!

I forget nothing...and I watched the event. Yes, lots of good stuff passed despite the RINO’s Straus and Dewhurst.

That would be great but when you’re in the minority be it Senate or House and I’m not talking about more Republicans than Demonrats, I’m talking about true Conservatives over RINO’s. One can be rendered useless if he/she doesn’t have the numbers of true Conservatives over Republicans of a different stripe. I have to tell you we were very offended by one of Dewhursts’ TV ads where he blamed the baby boomers for everything that’s wrong in government today. Personally, I’m tired of being treated like a bastard at a family reunion. My Hub worked hard all his life to have a half way decent retirement which is in jeopardy of being taken away.....our Social Security and Medicare fooled with and from what I see and PLEASE correct me if I’m wrong, it seems the Republicans are the ones that are threatening to do that very thing. I welcome your comments hocndoc. :)

I guess I’m offended that you blame Republicans for everything that’s wrong in government - including Houston pension reform.

However, I don’t recall the ad you refer to. And Houston most certainly is not Governed by Republicans. The only reference to a specific group or generation that I’ve seen in Dewhurst’s ads is to the “Greatest Generation’s” courage and the call to do the right thing, now. Regardless of generation.

Neither do the Federal Republican Social Security and Medicare reform plans include provisions for those over 55 to have their retirement secured.

I am certain that the current SS& Medicare schemes aren’t sustainable. If the Feds continue to spend FICA funds AND to borrow half of what we spend, all investments in this country and the world are endangered.

My point in the examples I’ve given is that Dewhurst is Conservative. He served in the Airforce, the CIA, built a business, and then ran for office on his 50’s. He has managed to get 6 budgets passed, within the balanced budget requirements of the Texas Constitution.

hocndoc I suppose my knee-jerk reaction to Republicans is the way they seem to fold like a cheap umbrella more than not. I’m disgusted right now with the whole shebang. The ad I refer to may just run in Houston and by the way we don’t live in Houston anymore. Had the good sense to get out years ago. I took offense to the ad about us baby boomers being the problem. The real problem is the government putting their filthy hands in SS and Medicare and the fraud in government in general. I realize our sacrifices don’t come close to our parent’s but they did teach us to take care of ourselves in the present and make sure you take care of your own future. I thought we had but some sure don’t think so.
