MANILA (AFP) - China told its citizens Thursday they were not safe in the Philippines and its state media warned of war, as a month-long row over rival claims in the South China Sea threatened to spill out of control.

Chinese travel agencies announced they had suspended tours to the Philippines, under government orders, and the embassy in Manila advised its nationals already in the country to stay indoors ahead of planned protests.

"The Filipino military is not even a threat to anyone."

Of course not. They are a third-world country and had the stupidity to kick out their greatest ally/protector.

If China wants them, fine. I'm sick of spending our blood and treasure on such ungrateful short-sighted peoples. Yes, I know it's more complex than that, but as long as we have our Tridents, I'm good. Let China become a regional power. I doubt they will cause too much trouble because they want the world to buy their products.

I also say pull our thousands of troops out of South Korea, Japan, and parts of Europe. Let them spend their bucks to defend their own people. Again, it's complicated, but I think we could bring so many troops home and give them priority for jobs. If I were King of the World for just one day!...har.

It is not good be a potential enemy of the USA. But to be a stated friend and ally dependent upon the America’s word for assistance when international power plays are being made, can be truly dangerous.

We still have troops in Mindanao. This has the potential of dragging us into their squabble over a reef.

Does the Philippines even have an air force?
***********************************************
Surplus US helicopters from Vietnam ,, more dangerous to the crews than any enemy.

Pull all our boys and girls out. I'm tired of seeing our Vets come back in boxes or with limbs missing for ungrateful cultures. Like I said above, we have Tridents. We need a Bolton to tell the world in no uncertain terms that is time for you to defends yourselves, but if you or your proxies hit us, we will turn you into ash. Then say, we would like to continue to fair trade.

China WILL become the regional power. So what? Our latest worry is about Russia threatening NATO, which I believe should be disbanded. Russia won't attack us because they love their children and believe in MAD. I think China does, also. It's the ME and the Norks that are the worry. I say kill them all now like we did with Germany. Don't worry about collateral damage...better woman and children than ours.

So it’s not all about ocean routes after all. It’s also about oil.

Add South Korea, which has a plurality of Christians though not an absolute majority, and we agree.

I agree with others on this thread that this may be a case of “let's see how far we can push things” with an eventual goal of forcing Taiwan into submission, but the issue of oil and natural gas fields could be enough to prompt action against the Philippines entirely on its own.

Supposing China takes over the Philipines. On the plus side, I don’t think the Chicoms would be quite so sanguine about the local El Qaeda franchise decapitating communist officials as the Philipino government has been about them decapitating Catholic priests.

Agreed. All Chinese see the situation from their history of having been occupied by various western empires (past) and their view of the Yellow River leading to the ocean (future). With our national political attitude as it is, China will absorb other Chinese culture countries and clear routes for whatever they want around Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, yes. We should be denazifying the Middle East instead of turning the West into an impoverished set of police states. In the following, we can learn about what our ancestors were capable of.

Denazification, cumulative review. Report, 1 April 1947-30 April 1948.

We will not go to war over the Phillipines.

Heck, we won’t go to war over Hawaii right now.

They, and all of Asia, are on their own. Sadly.

I think we should at the very least, help rebuild the Japanese navy and air force seeing that we pretty much forced them to not have either for 60 years. In hindsight, one of the dumbest moves we have ever made.

We did it because they would have tried to have another go if we didn’t.

Today it is to late. A nation of old men will not fight a war. If we want to project power, and help our allies, send a lot of hardwar to the Phillipnes.

I agree. This pseudo Empire game has gotten old.

Nations, like families, need to practice tough love at times. We have been playing policeman for to long.
