Dating back to 1895, never has the U.S. strung together 12 straight months warmer than May 2011 to April 2012 according to new data released today by NOAAs National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) .
The record-setting 12-month period edged out November 1999-October 2000, the 2nd warmest 12-month period, by 0.1°F. The average temperature was 2.8 degrees F above the 20th century average.
In the last year, the U.S. has experienced its second hottest summer, fourth warmest winter (December through February) and warmest March on record. And NCDC announced April 2012 was third warmest on record.

How the hell are they measuring temperatures to come to this conclusion? I’ve paid attention to the weather, both in my home state, and across the nation, and I don’t see where 2011-2012 was any warmer than any year in the past 10+ years. In fact, I’d say this was a cooler period. In fact, I have not seen a summer in the past 10 years that was warmer than summers I recall from my youth.
It’s not about the actual temperature...it’s about the propaganda headline...most younguns don’t bother to read all of it, just skim the headline.
Being manipulated, of course. But it is them who will pay that tax for breathing, because they believe the earth is gettin hot from mankind!
As yourself I’m in California. Southern California.
I’ll be happy to send copies of my heating bills to the author should he desire to know why I call BS on his article.
Well, it is an election year. There’s bound to be a ton of hot air expelled.
The methods used by researchers to determine overall warming/cooling are as follows (as described by my Historical Geology Professor):
1) They have different points all over the earth that record temps (easily manipulated aka parking lots)
2) Ice Core recordings
3) Fossil evidence of plants
4) Mathematical models where all of the natural variation is taken into account and the residual (error) is all attributed to anthropogenic sources
5) Level of 0-18 and 0-16 in oceans
We are currently living in an inter-glacial period that comes after an ice age. So, it’s naturally getting warmer (supposedly) but humans are making it warmer faster.
After all, we know and take into account every little variable that has an effect o9n climate and its interaction with every other variable /sarc
I live in NW Washington and we had the coldest summer on record last year. I am kind of hoping for a little global warming up our way.
And I loved every bit of it!
Going to go throw some more tires on the fire now!
Eastern Washington state here, 26 degrees here yesterday morning and 15 feet of snow on the mountains around us. I’ve read that the weather stations are on parking lots, assuring the temps they want.
for me...
last summer was very cool
last winter was very warm
this spring has been very warm
I’m expecting(hoping) for a very cool summer this year.
The previous 2 years before that were very cool.
While the winter was virtually snow-free and warm in large parts (but not all) of the US, it was super-snowy and bitter cold in Europe!! It was just the reverse the previous winter.
If enviro-Nazis want to use the warm winter this past season as a spur for “cap and trade”, etc., they’re barking up the wrong tree!!!!
The author's name: Jason Samenow. Shouldn't that be Jason SameNowAsItEverWas?
Oh my, the sky is falling! I must run and tell the king!
The obvious cause of this instance of global warming is that Jason Samenow has been eating too many beans, and that he refuses to stop farting.
So why weren’t we all dead after 1895?
Here is a web page of interest. It shows just how hot the 1930s were before air conditioning. This is for July. August was even hotter.

Thee 1950s were also very hot!
In Oklahoma, last summer was blazing hot and winter was very mild. I think my sister in MN reported the same (definitely a mild winter, I’m not positive about the summer).
I didn’t watch the entire country too closely because I think the global warming hysteria is a bunch of BS, but it doesn’t strike me as odd that the data says the past year was warm.
Or is the author picking and choosing what defines the "US average"?
It also cracks me up when they say the hottest since xxx years ago... Like the above 117 years... Well if it was that hot 117 years ago then it obviously within the normal range. And it doesn't at all make it some sort of anomaly proving that it is man made... So stupid on so many levels...
Of course Europe was seeing record cold and Libya had a snowfall and Rome had a foot of snow......
Funny admitting that tgis year was warmer than 117 years ago when we were being told every year that it was the warmist on record and unprecidented warmth....
;)
Leftists want half of us to die off. Because Democrat hives are hotter than the countryside they will die first. When the population is down to mostly conservatives, things will calm down. Earth is just baking off the parasites.
It seems to me they say this EVERY year.
This does not surprise me at all. Has anyone been watching the solar activity? Let them report this information that can be attributed to a non-man caused effect.
Somehow my tagline seems to be taking on more meaning, thanks GWB.
Since the national debt is the highest it has ever been, I posit that there is a positive correlation between increasing national debt and warming temperature trends.
Therefore, all we need to do to cool things down in this country is reduce our national debt...two problems solved with a single strategy.
I remember when I was a child during the mid to late 60’s and early 70’s the summer time temperatures climbing to over 110, in the shade, quite often. In the past 10+ years temperatures that high have not been common in the same area that I lived in back then. At that time all we had in our home was a swamp cooler - swamp being the operative word.
The puddles of water on my deck were frozen this morning although tomorrow we will be set a record for warmth then cool back down with highs in the 50’s and lows in 30’s Helena, Mt
Historical Geology Professor
Is that the actual title? Seeing as most geology is prehistoric, I’m guessing his window of interest is fairly small!
And I really wonder about any scientist, and especially geologists, that believe in anthropogenic warming.
I don’t know what happened 117 years ago, but apparently it happened again.
Here’s an interesting article and discussion about how “scientists” are altering data to validate their global warming beliefs:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2881154/posts
Think of it this way: 117 years ago the primary means of recording temperature was for a human to visually read a thermometer or crude cyclinder-like recording device that was most likely located in someones back yard in a rural area, and then manually record the information in a log book, which was passed on from time to time to the people who care about this stuff.
“Hey Pa, please check the temperature on your next rip to the outhouse.”
“OK Ma. Looks like 37 degrees or is that 36 degrees? What the heck - yesterday I rounded up, today, I'll round down.”
Pa writes down 36 degrees in his log book, but the “6” looks like a “5” and so when Pa sends his log to the Meteorology Department at Podunk University, the temperature from Pa's outhouse is officially recorded as 35 degrees. Spread the human error to weather collection points across the Country if only because "we all make mistakes," and then compund those errors over the years until the perfection of supercomputers and weather satellites, and I woould be shocked if average tempretures didn't change consideribly in 117 years.
I found it very interesting that the article (even though we’re all going to die) never mentioned globull warming.
God’s jet stream was blamed!
No, she is just a plain professor that I am aware of.
The course title is Historical Geology and is the second of a 2-semester course in Geology that I have to take for my B.S. degree.
Everyone in the Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric sciences believes in anthropogenic climate change here at my university. I like to call the MEA building the building of “fruits and nuts”. All prius’s, subaru, leaf, etc.
Spurious regression be damned!
And it's about damn time! The Left has been promising me global warming for 40 years - it was nice going through a New Jersey winter not buried in snow or freezing my ass off!
