PepsiCo Inc. is going on a reunion tour with The King of Pop.

The Purchase, N.Y.-based company says it struck a deal with Michael Jackson’s estate to use the late pop star’s image for its new global ad campaign. The rollout will vary by country, but will include a TV ad, special-edition cans bearing Jackson’s image and chances to win leather jackets inspired by the singer’s style.

The promotion is part of a broader marketing blitz by Pepsi, which is looking to take business back from The Coca-Cola Co.

Michael Jackson was accused of being a pedophile, therefore he was.

Just like George Zimmerman is a cold-blooded murderer.

I’d suggest that Pepsi Cola stop using aborted fetal liver cells in testing its soft drinks. Coca-Cola doesn’t seem to need it.

Nobody else quite knew what went on under blankets, but it didn’t look seemly.

The redneck favorite, too!

I always thought it was a poor third behind Coke and Pepsi, which were close (Coke being better).

I’m already boycotting Pepsi because of the embryo thing. That’s gruesome enough.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Pepsi hires Whitney Houston for their next campaign.

Just weird nonsense.

Pepsi recently laid off 8700 employees, one of the reasons being to free up $600 million for marketing.

And this is the best they can do??

I’ll stick to Dr. Pepper.

And they wonder why Pepsi is now #3 in sales, behind Coke Classic and Diet Coke. Ironically, the only reason that Pepsi survived is that Coke passed on a chance to buy its perpetually bankrupt rival during the Great Depression, figuring that PepsiCo would go under, anyway. After that, Pepsi started offering twice as much soft drink for half the price, and began gaining market share.

However, the Jackson campaign is just the latest in a series of recent blunders by Pepsi. A couple of years ago, they decided to spent most of their marketing dollars on social media, figuring that print, broadcast and radio were kaput. Their social media approach bombed and the next year they had to return to “traditional” media—and spend even more money on advertising, especially TV.

In that case, character assassination is perfectly acceptable.

Unless it's your character, of course.
