French Socialist Francois Hollande appeared headed to victory over President Nicolas Sarkozy, according to exit polls of voters released by Swiss and Belgian news media.

Those polls showed Hollande with 52 to 53 percent of the vote in an election that turned on solutions for Europe's economic crisis amid record unemployment in France.

French voters were still headed to cast their ballots when the exit polls were released in the early evening _ the results of exit polls cannot be published in France until voting ends at 8 p.m., 2 p.m. Eastern _ but the outcome seemed all but certain.

Is Scytl in Spain counting the votes, or does France still have control of the outcome within their country.

Since our Gov. has signed a contract with scytl...preceints here will count but then sent to Scytl in Spain. I can see
lost votes between here and there easily, like happened in Iowa, so just wondering.

I wonder how well this will go down with Germany’s interest in getting the EU’s finances straightened out.

Good, I hope the new socialist drags down France to a 3rd world country status... so that the socialist inclined here can see what will happen if we continue down this road.

That calls to my mind a passage from Dickens's "Pickwick Papers":

'Well; but come,' said Mr. Smangle; 'this is dry work. Let's rinse our mouths with a drop of burnt sherry; the last-comer shall stand it, Mivins shall fetch it, and I'll help to drink it. That's a fair and gentlemanlike division of labour, anyhow. Curse me!'

Where Germany is represented by the "last-comer."

Hardly a surprise for the Sark, actually. The Eurotrash news has been reporting for weeks that he was sliding in a serious sort of way. And his own actions were those of a driver who could already see a wall coming. All the Euros are watching their social democrat state models turn into silly putty. The only real question is whether they can deal with the fundamentals soon enough to avoid another dark age?

Looks like the welfare voters came out and voted in large numbers. It will be like watching a fiery vehicle crash
for the next couple years. Hopefully Germany lets them burn.

I agree, no results should be announced until all polls have closed.

The official results were announced on French TV at 8pm. There are parts of France that continue to vote until 9pm

Unless the current crop of Washington politicians can figure out how to deal with our economic disaster in waiting soon (which I doubt), then the country will be pulled further and further left as folks vote for politicians who will promise not to cut their benefits...

Nicolas Sarkozy just finished his speech. A speech full of live for France, and the values he fought for.
Sarko fought an amazing battle, considering the war the left has waged against him with lies and media assassination. The fact that he got 51.9% when a few months ago Hollande led by 10-12% is a testament to his personal commitment, and energy.

France has lost a remarkable leader. He was taking France on the correct road. Sadly, socialism is the wrong way, the way that always fails.
