Frank discussion re our loss to Obama/Romney and the future direction of FR and tea party movement

My FRiends, we might as well face the reality that we the combined pro-life conservative movement and tea party coalition have lost this round (the presidential election) in the larger battle to reclaim our constitution and our inalienable rights. Rove, Romney and the GOP-e have successfully destroyed and driven off each and every pro-life conservative tea party candidate from the race and all have surrendered to the Romney camp. It is no secret that Romney is not one of us. There is absolutely no doubt that he has never accomplished a single conservative thing in his entire political career (one term as liberal governor of liberal Massachusetts and six years campaigning for president). In Massachusetts, he undeniably championed abortion, gay rights, global warming, gun control, big government statist mandated/socialized health care programs, liberal judges, TARP, bailouts, stimulus spending, debt limit increases, etc, and even though he's recently claimed a complete reversal in political beliefs and no longer despises pro-life conservatives or the time of Reagan-Bush, I still don't trust him. He still stubbornly holds on to some of his statist beliefs, like global warming, gays in the military, RomneyCare, stimulus spending, etc, so there is no way I can vote for him or join Cain, Perry, Bachmann, Newt or any others who are endorsing him. But I will not act on my prior promises that I would actively campaign against him if he wins the nomination. Our combined movement is already torn and splintered and is going to have to be mended if we're going to have any impact whatsoever against the liberal/progressives and statists after the election. To that end I propose a TRUCE among our conservative forces during the remainder of this election cycle.

We conservatives have already lost the presidency to either the Dems or the GOP-e, and if we tear the tea party apart, if we tear the pro-life movement apart, if we tear FR apart then we lose it all. It's far more important that we re-unite and live to fight another day. Even if we can't vote for a true conservative for the presidency, it's doubly important that we all turn out on election day or sooner and drag our friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers, etc, to the polls to vote straight conservative for every slot on our ballots. The only way we can win our freedom back is to vote out the liberal progressives and vote in as many liberty loving conservatives as is humanly possible into every elected office at every level of government all across this great land. To prevent a total loss to the dems or GOP-e, we must continue the tea party rebellion into November and beyond. Whatever else you may do, you must turn out and vote straight tea party conservative down ticket!!

We must continue expanding our inroads into the state houses and into every elective office in the land. We must continue building on our majority in the house and we must retake the senate!! We must help the conservative governors and state legislatures to fully restore the ninth and tenth amendments and reclaim the real political power away from the federal usurpers and return it to the states and the people per the constitution!! This way, regardless of who wins the presidency, we can cut his unconstitutional expansionist movements off at the knees. And if any executive, civil officer or judge dares commit impeachable offenses, we must hold the majorities so we can impeach and remove them from office!!

And we must salvage and rebuild and continue strengthening our conservative pro-life, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-borders, pro-constitution, pro-small government, pro-defense, pro-liberty movements and our tea party coalition. And we must stop ripping each other apart!!

Therefore I hereby propose a general truce among our conservative forces!!

The Republic we save may be our own!!

As far as FR's finances go, we're in the same boat as the rest of the economy and will have to make do with what we can raise. Fortunately, the big debts we ran up a couple years ago have been paid off. We borrowed approx $20,000 a few years ago from two FReepers to fund our national convention, plus we ran up another $20,000 in legal fees during the last couple of years fighting off Righthaven. But those are now behind us and paid off. We also did quite a bit of traveling each year for the last three years on cross country tea party tours, but I think we can now cut that back and remove it from our budget requirements. If we're fortunate enough to not incur any additional legal costs or equipment costs (other than what we've already planned), and cut the travel and a few other areas, we should be able to tighten our belts enough to weather the storm even if we fail to reach our short term fundraising goals.

Whatever the outcome of the elections, we are prepared to roar into 2013 with the tea party chewing up liberal/progressives and RINOs and raising hell in our never ending fight for liberty!!

We are the resistance!!

Let's take the enemy head-on instead of fighting each other!!

Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead!!

Again my question, especially now that you’ve stated,.. “I am happy to come in, sit on Jim’s porch and shoot the breeze with like minded people”....so why would you go to a site that trashes your friend and FR friends here?.... Do you also see them as like minded people when you sit on their porch while they shoot insults at Jim and those here?

The odds of a Mormon venture capitalist businessman with 5 kids and a normal stay-at-home wife being a leftist? ZERO.

Just who was that leftist who was governing Massachusetts from 2002 to 2006 if it wasn't a "Mormon venture capitalist businessman with 5 kids and a normal stay-at-home wife"?

I will take a picture of Obama with me in the voting booth. That might enable me to pull the lever for Romney, my last choice among repubs.

I’m voting Romney and hoping he wins.

Because no matter how much he will disappoint me starting on January 20, 2013, I still get to taste (figuratively) the sweet tears of unfathomable sadness shed by Obama, Mooch, and all their idiot supporter for a two and a half glorious months.

You are absolutely right. If all else were to remain equal, electing Romney is worthwhile for that reason alone. Seeing the weeping and gnashing of teeth of all the Obamatrons. Watching "when's my next round of golf" Obama and "when's my next vacation?" Michelle thrown out by a Republican candidate that no one was that enthused about, except as a means of tossing Barry onto the scrap heap of history would be a delicious moment. Another point is that if Obama is reelected he'll do whatever he wants with no regard for how anyone feels about it because the voters' feelings will have no effect on his reelection chances at all. At least Romney would face a substantive threat from the electorate that has at least the theoretical possibility of moderating his behavior in office. That simply isn't there with an Obama second term. And yet we see some "conservatives" saying that there's no difference between a reelected Obama who has already done greater damage to the nation than any president to date and Mitt Romney who has at least the possibility of not doing that damage as well as the possibility of reversing Barry's damage.

how much influence have conservatives had on the Obama administration?

Kind of like Obama’s nickname: ZERO.

So 4 more years of that will empower conservatives?

Newt called him a massachusetts moderate, that’s accurate. Not a leftist then, not a leftist now.
Reserve the word Leftist for the Real Deal - that’s Obama.

I still hope for a few more years because we get more ready each year.

I had to go outside in between post for a guy with a dump trailer to drop off 7 yards of horse manure/bedding. Free off craigslist and it will go into preparing the next garden bed so we can rotate them with nitrogen fixing crops. One families waste is another’s garden so to speak. :)

You should get a sun shower. They actually work and the energy is free!

“In my view Mitt’s supposed “conversion” on abortion (and other issues) is a little too late in life for me to believe. “

You mean like GHW Bush abortion flipflop? we got Clarence Thomas out of GHWBush, and we’ll likely get some good SCOTUS pick out of Romney - and if he pulls a Miers stunt like GWB did, we’ll give ‘em h*ll over it.

“It’s still May. Why support Mitt now when his stinky feet need to be held to the fire, every minute of every day? “

Fine. But Mitt’s the nominee. Attacking him as being as bad as Obama is absurd, wrong and pointless. Team Obama would love for you to be wasting time doing that. Take your time, but the choice is simple and obvious. Anyone But Obama.

“Giving ol’ Mittsky just ONE more chance, eh?”

Up until now, Romney has had zero chances outside Massachusetts to govern.

“The conservative movement has a better shot of thriving under a second Obama term than a Romney term.”

Another term and we will NEVER REPEAL OBAMACARE. It will be burrowed in like a tick. Another term and we get naother $6 trillion in debt and are locked on the path of becoming greece.

Insanity: giving 4 more years to the most leftist President ever and imagining that is good for conservatives.

“If Obama wins it will be 100% Communist, 100% of the time...”
“If it was that certain and that easy, why hasn’t he done it already?”

Obamacare, ending mexico city policy, adding $1 trillion in spending, bank regs, amnesty by fiat, EPA run riot, NLRB thugs vs boeing, stimulus deals galore, bailouts for unions at GM etc. sure seem like he was moving as fast as he could. Now his ‘julia’ ad shows his agenda - cradle-to-grave socialist welfare statism.

I didn't say that Mitt was as bad as Obama.

Don't post to me that I did.

No. I don’t particularly like it. Have actually posted to that effect - same username there as here, so you can quickly check on that statement for yourself. (Post 15 on the first page of my posted comments on my profile, for ease of reference, though it might be on the following page by the time you read this)

In some peoples cases I understand it, but that no more means I agree with it than I necessarily agree with you on everything.

As to why? Hey, they got libs there to debate! At least three, and two of them are very, very good at tying you in knots in an argument.
Also have a lot of friends there, some of whom I disagree with hugely and love arguing with.
I have people I consider friends here too, who I disagree with hugely. To give you one example from here - Quix (courtesy pinged) and I are about as far apart on the religious spectrum as it is possible to be, and argue about that almost constantly. Yet we are friends.

It isn’t an either/or thing. I am a member of several dozen sites. I am a writer and do script work for movies (usually really bad movies, but that is beside the point). Does that make me a Hollywood liberal?
Your attitude is the attitude that peeved me enough to post in a thread I would not normally post in.
I am me. Not you. Not married to you, related to you or beholden to you in any way, shape or form. You want something from me, you better be persuasive, because dictating to me does not work. The only person that has that right has been my right hand, support and shield for 37 years, and even she doesn’t try to tell me who I can and cannot associate with.

Until Jim tells me I am not welcome on his porch, which is totally his right, I will continue to visit, to see my friends and chat about the day. Yes, I’ll continue to fetch along the odd six pack. So what. Any guest who has even a vague sense of decency does that and respects their hosts feelings.
I am also free to go to other sites and post there too.

” there are still states yet to vote, and delegates to get, and a convention.”

Correct, and Romney will get the votes, the delegates, and win on the first ballot at the convention. He’s being endorsed by all candidates except Ron Paul. Romney has over 800 delegates and is close to getting over the 50% mark soon, certainly after texas and Cali he’ll be over the hump officially. Almost every state has a rule where if you get over 50% of the vote you get 100% of delegates. Romney will be getting 100% of the remaining delegates or close to that.

The primary is over.

“This year we can run against big government, resentment of success, and identity politics like never before. We are the party of e pluribus unum, equality under the law, and not stealing from future generations. That is a much easier sell. “

True but the awful thing is .... WHAT IF OBAMA WINS?!?

He basically will conclude - rightly - that America has signed up for European style socialist welfare statism.

Because that is what he wants and that is what is being sold in his campaign.

Socialized medicine, a VAT, punitively high tax rates for wealth redistribution, the whole nine yards. Coming in a 2nd Obama term.

Call it when it's over. Some are frantic to call it early. Talk to me when Romney has enough uncontested delegates, or after the convention.

I say uncontested advisedly.

The primary is not over, and it will settle out the way it settles out.

I am talking about the nation changing...congress, the executive, the SCOTUS so that they actually follow the Constitution. Well what you listed above is actually 'government' change rather than 'nation' (people) change as alluded to.

To do that involves we the people electing the right people to office who will do so and keep their oath to do so.

How can that be possible when the very people 'running' don't abide by the rules let alone any oaths. There are none who do more than play the one up game and sidestep every ordinance and limitation designed to make this a fair election....

in fact ,as you know, we just recently had a Candidate, supposedly of the People, 'ignore completely' the rules and requirement of a determined delegate count before claiming the win.....but instead, and 'by self-appointment', declared himself the winner of 'the peoples' Primary... Additionally, went so far as to ignore half the voters of the nations people while doing so.

It was not his to claim...it was the peoples to appoint...he jumped ahead of it all constitutional wise and then some....nobody stopped him...nobody opposed..... So what would you call that?

I call that a fix that's been in for a long time....and so won't this Presidency be.

There is no representation of and by the people!

Obama is going to win. The loser GOP go-along-to-get-along crowd is expert at losing national elections by putting forward liberals and using dirty tricks and rule changes and bad-mouthing conservatives.

Get used to it. You are the one supporting them.
