Chinese Activist 'Very Disappointed' in the U.S., Says Officials Lied To Him
The Atlantic ^ | May 2, 2012 | Max Fisher

A little over 12 hours after blind Chinese activist Chen Guangcheng was released from the U.S. embassy in Beijing, which he had fled to after escaping house arrest, Chen now says that American officials encouraged him to leave the safe haven of the embassy building, in part by making promises that they failed to keep.

In an interview with CNN's Steven Jiang, he expressed deep disappointment with the U.S. and with President Barack Obama personally.

He said that embassy officials were no longer picking up his calls and that he already felt his rights being "violated" by the Chinese government, which had promised him his freedom in exchange for him leaving the embassy.

He strenuously and repeatedly asked the U.S. and Obama to help him and his family leave China.

The interview portrays Chen as furious at the U.S., which he had only 24 hours ago seen as his greatest hope, and portrays the Obama administration as having sold out the high-profile activist, who in 2005 made an enemy of the Chinese government when he campaigned against thousands of forced abortions and forced sterilizations.

The interview, initially published on Jiang's verified blogspot account, has since been removed. Neither he nor CNN appear to have explained why. (Update: Jiang, on Twitter, says he removed the interview to re-post it later as part of a larger CNN.com story.)

Chen Guangcheng ‘12

(Hey if Obama can be eligible then a natural born Chinese can be too, heck he would probably make an even better president, he may be blind but he has a LOT more vision than Obama)

No fan of Mitt; but safe to say; that he would NOT make this pathetic and deplorable call; whereby Jian was sold out; as was America' for that matter. A contract job long familiar to Obama.

Meantime; little doubt Obama ticked this story stepping on his Osama/Obama Legend Series. Obama not only sold out Jiang; he sold out America. But then; that has been Obama's job; for as long as he can remember; no?

Repubs; including Mitt. . .had better be ready to challenge this degradation of American Leadership. Lest he falter; before Mitt speaks on this matter; would hope that he would consult John Bolton; or even Newt; or Marco Rubio for guidance and 'spine'. Fear he will not however.

Waiting for 'hue and cry' from Repubs. There had better be one. Better; if a chorus sounds; from every American citizen who considers himself a 'decent' one.

and if Mr. Chen were fighting for gay rights, he would already have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and would be on plane with Hillary Clinton to America!

I don’t disagree with your contention that China has the problem.

I strongly suspect that the US will default on their debt (or “refinance” more favorable terms) once the election is over. But, Bambi doesn’t want to announce that before November because it would crash the economy and he’d lose the election...

This whole situation is very awkward because it is forcing the Administration to actually take a position and that’s not something that they like to do. Of course, the LSM will cover for him so it probably won’t matter anyway!

Just like handing back Lithuanian seaman Simon Kudurkis who jumped ship and swam to an American ship, only to be returned to the reds. He served 10 years in a prison camp until a new administration was able to get him out of the Soviet Union to freedom.

Lots of Democrats like betraying freedom-seekers.

Would Romney have handed him back?

Probably. This Chinese guy is not that important to sour productive business relations over him. He is not Helen of Troy.

Poor Mr. Chen. I wonder how big of a campaign contribution you get for returning China’s property back to them?

Too bad the poor bastard wasn’t a Uighur trying to kill our troops in Afghanistan. We’d be paying for his cliff-side beach house in aruba as we speak. Probably give him a stipend to boot. Now, it’s a matter of time before his food is spiked.

Could Liberals be more morally repugnant?

Anyone have the picture of Hitlery in the coolie hat? That should give a clue where her loyalty lies.

Prayers up for this poor man.
