Santorum wants promises from Romney before backing
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | May 1, 2012 | Philip Elliott

WASHINGTON — Rick Santorum wants to ensure the GOP's policy platform represents conservatives' interests. Newt Gingrich wants help retiring his campaign debt and repairing his reputation.

Both Republicans are expected to endorse their former rival Mitt Romney — and signal to their backers to fall in line behind the party's presumptive nominee — but each wants assurances that Romney will deliver for them. Neither is rushing toward the task.

Meanwhile, it doesn't appear that Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is going to go that way. Paul is still in the race and hasn't yet recognized Romney as the party's nominee. The tea party favorite and former Libertarian presidential nominee seems unlikely to endorse given deep differences with Romney on economic and foreign policy issues.

Romney plans to meet Santorum on Friday and Gingrich plans to endorse him this week, an end-of-primary dance that happens every four years once the party settles on a nominee.

Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, quit the race April 10 but has stopped short of publicly embracing Romney as the GOP's standard bearer after a bitter primary season that featured Santorum calling Romney "the worst Republican in the country" to run against Obama.

~SNIP~

....people close to Santorum said, he wants assurances from Romney that the party's platform would represent conservatives' interests, and that Romney would govern as a conservative.

Unlike Gingrich, Santorum also doesn't need Romney's help to retire campaign debt.

I hope Santorum has learned from past mistakes and does not again sacrifice principle for the RINO GOP.

RICK SANTORUM IS NOTHING BUT A STALKING HORSE FOR ROMNEY!

Remember that refrain? Last I checked, Newt was encouraging Republicans to rally around Romney.

Ironic, isn't it?

Yes, Santorum has flaws, but I really admire him for what he was able to do in 2012.

Let us not forget that RINO Romney has all the presence and stature of an unprincipled, spineless, morally confused, and depraved homosexual seeking power.

Romney is a stealth Rosie O'Donnell that looks good in a suit!

ROTFLMAO!!!!

Both Gingrich and Santorum have dropped out and their partisans are STILL sniping at one another... sad.

Surely at some point a person can saw off his past life? Neither Gingrich nor Santorum nor Romney ever shot anybody. The Pelosi couch photo-op has long been disavowed by Gingrich, who belatedly came to recognize that the global warming scare was a scam.

The critics of Santorum haven’t gotten anything right about him this season, there’s no reason to believe your assessment is any more correct.

Today I had a thought that might get us through this crap sandwich we’ve gotten rammed down our throats call Romney.

Phase 1 - Convince Romney to select a reliable conservative as VP.

Phase 2 - Focus all of our energy at defeating Obama.

Phase 3 - Summon up all the courage we can to hold down the bile as are forced to vote for Romney.

Phase 4 - Impeach Romney at the first offense thus placing a conservative in the oval office.

This is the best I scenario I can think of that keeps Obama from being reelected and Romney from being Romney. I had such high hopes for this year and we got a punked.

The competition was not for naught: it did push Mitt Romney’s run to the right. As for impeaching him — only if he does something impeachable, of course, like try to force gay marriage from a Federal level. After this season of Obama constitutional outrages, Mitt will look milktoast bland.

“...and signal to their backers to fall in line behind the party’s presumptive nominee — but each wants assurances that Romney will deliver for them.”

This does nothing but demonstrate excessive credulity.

Guys, why would these ignoble RINO SOBs NOT promise us whatever we want???? Migth as well pile it on thick, while your lying.

That’s WHY they are dispicable! That is WHY our nation is bankrupt! Not playing this horse S-— game again.

It reminds me of the Fox News narrative throughout the campaign as they fallaciously described conservatives on the fence “wanting to hear from Romney” this and that nonsense before getting on board.

I don’t “want to hear” a damned thing from Mitt Romney assuring me jack ____. Why? Because whatever he says is pure and utter bull ——!

If ONLY Mitt Romney would just say that he promises not to betray the conservatives...

So, he said it. He said he was “severely conservative”. Feel better?

Honestly, the level of stupidity by these RINO’s is astounding. Sure, some conservatives may be naive but seriously. How many are going to fall for this?

Kind of look at this way ...
There was a royal flush dealt.
The elites took the royal portion,
Conservatives were given a flush.

Hate it down here in the sewer!
Should have been the elites' flushed!

“The competition was not for naught: it did push Mitt Romney’s run to the right.”

Respectfully, that is worthless. We pushed him to the right in words, not deeds.

Romney’s words are and always have been meaningless.

His campaign inadvertantly told the truth ONE TIME in the past year. That was when his campaign manager described him as an Etch a Sketch.

“Clearly, we should vote for Obama?”

If you are prepared to vote for Mittens, we’ve established what you are.
After establishing that, isn’t it only a matter of dickering over your price?
Obama: six; Romney: a half-dozen. Que sera sera.

At least Santorum isn't holding his hat out like Newt is. Good to know Gingrich's endorsement can be purchased.
