The Real Romney
American Clarion ^ | January 18, 2012 | Bob Ellis

The Daily Caller reports a huge 200-page research document has hit the internet, and it reveals Mitt Romney utterly and damningly for the flip-flopping opportunistic liberal that he is.

The paper was compiled during the 2008 presidential race and is believed to be from the McCain campaign (not the most conservative source itself). Among some of the interesting tidbits that blow a hole in his claims about being pro-life, pro-marriage, and generally conservative:

Abortion

• Romney says he changed his mind on abortion meeting with Harvard stem cell researcher - Romney claims the doctor said scientists "kill" embryos after 14 days, but doctor later said Romney "mischaracterized my position."
• Months after his "conversion," Romney stated his commitment to upholding Massachusetts’ abortion laws and appointed pro-choice judge to state district court.
• In October 2005, Romney signed bill expanding family planning services, including abortion counseling and morning-after pill.
• In December 2005, Romney "abruptly ordered his administration to reverse course . . . and require Catholic hospitals to provide emergency contraception medication to rape victims."
• Romney health insurance plan expanded access to abortion, required Planned Parenthood representative on state panel.
• Romney endorsed legalization of abortion pill RU-486 access during his 1994 Senate race and backed federal funding of abortion, saying "I think it’s important that people see me not as a pro-life candidate."
• In 1994 and 2002, Romney confirmed his support for Roe v. Wade decision and forcefully positioned himself as pro-choice in 1994 Senate race, saying "you will not see me wavering on that."
• Romney has refused to comment on bill pending in South Carolina legislature requiring that abortion doctors offer pregnant women option of viewing ultrasound.

Gay Rights

• Romney endorsed Rep. Barney Frank’s Employment Nondiscrimination Act in 1994.
• In 1994, Romney called "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy first step toward having gays and lesbians "able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military" and said he would provide "more effective leadership" on gay rights issues than Ted Kennedy.
• In 2003, Washington Times reported Romney "would support a Vermont-style civil union law in Massachusetts."
• As governor, Romney said health coverage benefits and hospital visitation rights should be provided to gay couples.
• Romney promised to make gay partnership benefits a "hallmark of my leadership as governor" and has said he would attend gay weddings if invited.
• Romney publicly opposed Boy Scouts’ ban on homosexuals in 1994 and 2002 campaigns.
• In 2002, Romney backed hate crimes legislation that included sexual orientation provisions.
• In 2007, Romney praised gay parent who confronted him over gay marriage issue, but in 2005 remarked to South Carolina audience that some gay couples "are actually having children" and called it "wrong."

Gun Control

• In 1994 Senate race, Romney backed Brady bill and assault weapons ban, saying "I don’t line up with the NRA" and "that’s not going to make me the hero of the NRA."
• Romney called Clinton crime bill "a big step forward."
• As governor, Romney quadrupled gun licensing fees and vowed not to "chip away" at tough gun laws
• In 2004, Romney signed permanent state-level ban on assault weapons that was mirrored after federal assault weapons ban. • In January 2006, Romney said he owned a gun - then two days later admitted he did not and the gun belonged to his son.
• Romney bragged about being member of the NRA but later revealed he didn’t join until August 2006, just before launching his presidential campaign.
• Romney recently said he’s "been a hunter pretty much all my life" but later admitted he hunted only twice in his life, later clarifying remarks by claiming he has hunted "small varmints . . . more than two times."
• In 2006 press conference, Romney claimed he had been hunting "many times" after returning from quail hunt in Georgia.

The paper also goes on to provide much greater details about these facts also. You should be sure to read the whole thing.

If Republicans allow themselves to be duped into believing Mitt "RomneyCare" Romney is a real Republican (much less a real conservative), they will be sorely disappointed if given a chance to find the truth once he’s in the White House.

If Republicans allow the "mainstream" media and RINO elites to scare them into settling for this poor excuse for a Republican, they are going to kick themselves later. With Americans having gotten a clear look at liberalism under Barack Obama and his Democrat Congress, there will never be a better time to elect a real Republican, a conservative who understands how America was designed to operate. With the damage done by liberals to our great nation, there has never been a time when we have more desperately needed a conservative who knows what makes this country tick . . . not one who will only reduce - but not stop - the level of liberal poison being injected into our society.

The truth is, Romney almost certainly will not get a chance to show his true face. Enough Republicans already understand that he’s nothing but a liberal with an "R" after his name, which means that even if people allow the "mainstream" media and the GOP establishment to fool them into supporting him in the primary, there will not be enough support from Republicans who know the truth to push him over the top in the general election. Principled Republicans will not vote for a fraud like Romney, and when "independents" are given a choice between a liberal with an "R" after his name and a liberal who proudly embraces the liberal Democrat Party, they’ll go for the genuine article every time.

Republicans, let’s throw this pretender onto the side of the road while there is still time, and choose a real Republican like Rick Santorum. Half-measures and "the lesser of two evils" will not be enough to save our ailing country; we must have decisive leadership that understands the need to return to the traditional American values that are PROVEN to work. Rick Santorum understands that; Mitt Romney just doesn’t get it.

Romney will not be so supported by the press. From his first day in office, they’ll become that mysteriously OPPOSITE media, the “opposition press”, as if nothing has changed since the administration of George W Bush. Romney will be lucky to last four years.

Perhaps, a slim chance. On the other hand, the press will be very supportive of Democrats who reach across the aisle and are bipartisan with Republican Romney on all his big-government solutions. A whole lotta Republicans are going to swing left right along with the Party's newest WINNER!

Judging by Romney's record and by the behavior of his core supporters, he is every bit as capable of tyranny and progressivism as Obama, and rightly move as if he was authorized by Republican voters to be that way. Romney is arrogant and ruthless. The real Romney is as risky as Obama.

Obama must go and FR needs to focus on that like a laser beam.

Wrong. Laser-beams' narrow focus makes for overall blindness, as you've exemplified here.

Spend your time tearing down o bama.

I don't know about others, but I already know how disgusting Obama is, and I already know that nobody here is "for" Obama. Complaining about Obama is kind of irrelevant: he's a bad dude getting worse. So stipulated.

There's an elephant in the room that a lot of Republicans are straining not to see: that voting Republican has become for many of us counter-productive. Some of us calculate by Romney's record that he's such a bad risk he's worse than Obama. He had a documented record of embracing the very things we've been steadfastly voting Republican all these years, to oppose!!! The bridge has gone too far. Forget it. Like it or not, it's the way it is.

I like Free Republic because I see so many smart folks spending good time identifying, analyzing, and trying to work out options and solutions with regard to that elephant in the room. A thread bashing Obama is old news.

The report could have been made “exposing” Newt, Perry, Herman Cain or anyone. All ya need is dedication to distortion and misinformation.

When all else fails, default to the Moral/Factual Equivalency strategy to justify a stinking liberal GOP turd's entitlement to the the worthy Republican vote.

So you think if anybody did enough digging, they'd be able to "smear" Newt, Perry, and Cain as having longstanding records of pushing government controlled health care on the people with $50 abortion on demand, and have supported activist gay organizations to go into middle schools for "Gay Youth Pride" and all of them, even Newt (who was the most eloquent voice AGAINST Al Gore's global warming in senate hearings -- you can see it yourself on you-tube), are staunch believers in the global warming ecotyranny premise, and Newt, Perry and Cain have documented records of appointing overwhelmingly liberal activist judges.

You had the nerve to call somebody else here a "leftist hack"? Deb, YOU are a Liberal Republican hack.

The zotting of anyone pro Romney attacking or insulting real conservatives here on FR is a happy event.

We may have to vote for the SOB (or not) but it doesn't mean we are going to roll over like several here seem to expect. That is exactly what the GOP powers that be are used to from the rank and file...

Deb's derision of the Falcon party: The FALCONS will save us!!!!! VOTE BIRDBRAIN!!!!

Pretty rich coming from a mindset of folks who've delcared they'd vote for an orange juice can before they'd vote for Obama.

Voting for Romney would be AS STUPID as voting for an orange juice can.

OMG!!! There is a Mormon repellant at Walmart, I think, or you can get it online. God help you and your babies!!

You know what's super ironic, you sh*theel Hack, is that your post is the very kind of ugly, stupid, juvenile, trashy "wit" that gets (rightly) deleted on FR, and once it's gone, you can whine and cry all you want about how you, poor little thing, were censored on Fwee Wepubwic because people didn't like your stance on Romney, wa-aaa-aaaah!

I tell you, the behavior of a candidate's supporters speaks volumes about the candidate. Romney's people as usual being sh*theel hacks.

Once again, as in 2008, I pray that God delivers us from Romney and that Romney loses. He is bad news for everybody.

A vote for anyone besides Romney at this point now means a vote for Obama.I live in a state that makes a difference, do you? I don't like Romney but he may just have to be our finger in the dike for the next four years until WE ALL get off our ass and away from the computer and physically get out there and change things.

We saw the same kind of behavior from the MittBots in '08. It didn't get them anywhere then, won't get them anywhere now.

The main difference was that not very many of them were dumb enough to spit in Jim Robinson's eye. Dumb.

How can I, as someone who believes in Christian principles, do anything to advance the career of Mitt Romney? I will never be a “Romney Republican” no matter what you think might be the consequences. Trust in God.

And, if you can’t trust in God, then try to trust in one of our Founding Fathers:

“In matters of principle, stand like a rock; in matters of taste, swim with the current.” - Thomas Jefferson

A vote for anyone besides Romney at this point now means a vote for Obama.

Illogical and untrue on its face, no matter how many times Romney Republicans repeat it.

A vote against ingesting cyanide is not a vote for ingesting strychnine.

Smart folks don't drink poison.

I hope Romney LOSES.

If it is R vs O with no viable third-party candidate, I can only hope that the majority of votes will have gone against whichever socialist wins, Obama or Romney. Frankly, the best scenario under these dreadful circumstances is for Obama to squeak in on a 34% plurality so that he enters office greatly weakened and debilitated because 66% of votes cast will have been against him, emboldening his enemies in his own party and marking an important, crucial victory for conservatives in a major battle for the Republican party; Obama gets in under those circumstances, and we'll have the most likely configuration for Congress and the GOP both to go hard right. Liberalism would be the biggest loser, and Obama severely crippled.

On the other hand, there's virtually a 100% probability that Romney in the White House would make liberalism more powerful in BOTH parties. I love America and trust the wisdom of conservative values; that is why I hope Romney loses.

From your posts, I infer that you are burdened by a great deal of fear. Fear is a common and normal reaction when the future is uncertain, but there does exist relief from fear.

Just trust in God.

Just do what you know is the right thing. Remain faithful to your principles.

And, just trust in God.
