Sidenote: In 1974, Joni did a tour with Tom Scott and The LA Express, a jazz/fusion group that gave her songs a new depth of rich sounds and fresh interpertations that would forever change her musical directions from folk to something uniquely Joni. This song-poem that begins with Joni's solo piano, illustrates how her story-telling style was enhanced by the new musical accompaniment and the addition of the backing band gave her a new cofidence and risk-taking attitude reminiscent of Dylan's earlier movement from pure folk-style to something more electric and daring. Unlike many of Dylan's fans, Joni's audience embraced the chages and responded with pure adoration and sky-rocketing record sales.
Joni's conversational lyrics, unorthodox tunings and soaring melodies combined with the band in a marriage that would follow her throughout her career. As we move into the mid-70s, 80s and 90s you'll notice the stark changes as she flexes her musical gifts and pushes the limits of convention and reaches a level of maturity and peer respect that few artists ever achieve. The mousey folk-singer has finally spread her wings and reached new heights that influenced several generations of performers.

1974 was also the year Joni released her most successful studio album which she had spent the previous year writting. Court and Spark was a commercial triumph, praised by critics, but was also received very warmly by the public. It reached No. 2 in the United States and No. 1 in Canada and received a Double Platinum certification. It was voted the best album of the year for 1974 in The Village Voice Jazz & Pop Critics Poll and in 2003 it was listed at No. 111 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Alongside Tom Scott's LA Express the album features jazz greats Milt Holland, Chuck Findley & Larry Carlton, Pop stars including Joe Sample, José Feliciano, David Crosby, Graham Nash, The Band's Robbie Robertson and even a guest appearance on "Twisted" by Cheech Marin & Tommy Chong.
Coupled with the live "Miles Of Aisles" album, Joni was propelled to worldwide superstar status crossing the over the Pop music charts into Jazz, Rock, Adult Contemporay and Country.
