I have not been able to find any place else that gives such a strong combination of conservative philosophy, activism, news and discussion.
The members of this website are a force majeure responsible for a huge inpact on political communication at the grassroots level. We engage in intelligent debate, we analyze the news, we spread the word, and we organize against the gutless anti-American ignorance that is liberalism. We are one of the main engines of political discussion and activism in this country.
OUR DONATIONS MAKE THIS INSTITUTION RUN. It is so easy to make an automatic monthly donation; I donate $10/month via electronic debit. I believe in the goals and the purpose of this website and more importantly in the philosophy behind it. I use its services, I have benefitted intellectually from its content, and I therefore believe that I have a responsibility to help keep it running.
If you don’t believe that we are quite literally engaged in a fight for the life of our country, you should probably just click on the next News/Activism link while you still can. If you believe that Free Republic is an important bulwark against the American socialist movement and against those who are actively trying to bring America to her knees, then it’s time to set up a small monthly donation.
The vindictiveness that comes out on almost every thread is far from open and free discussion. This is a major part of the donation problem, as I see it.
Jim was warned years ago that banning and insulting his followers was going to lead down this path. He chose arrogance, pride and misguided principles (whatever they may be at the moment) over the financial health of this site and now he’s reaping the rewards. You want our money? Change the way you do business. Simple as that.

Unfortunately the tipping point has been reached.
Asking for more and more money - from fewer and fewer folks. Many who used to contribute, both money and commentary, have left, been banned, or have gone into lurk mode for reasons that have been well laid out.

Getting called a coward,evil, and that I was going to hell because I’m voting for ABO(because Obama is the worst possible outcome of this election) was when I’d had enough. I served in Iraq for this country, seen people blown apart and shot to death and some dumbass armchair generals on here want to call me and others cowards and evil for voting ABO. Yeah have at it. I voted for Newt in TN, but will vote ABO to try and get the monster out of the White House.
Let get ‘er done. Plenty of other stuff to do!

What is so wrong with FR taking a principled stand against the republican party moving even more to the left? I haven’t decided yet how I’ll vote, but it seems pretty short sighted to me to think only about the next four years and not the ramifications of this party putting up someone so contrary to core conservative values. He’s not the devil incarnate, but he’s not conservative.
How about building a conservative gameplan that looks more than 6 months ahead. We should be looking 6 years ahead, building the party we need - rather than accepting the one the establishment wants. Jmho.
