Texas Gov. Rick Perry originally endorsed Newt Gingrich as the top candidate after dropping out of the Republican presidential race.

But with Gingrich set to quit the campaign trail, Perry on Wednesday evening gave his support to the probable nominee, Mitt Romney.

"Mitt Romney has earned the Republican presidential nomination through hard work, a strong organization, and [a] disciplined message of restoring America after nearly four years of failed job-killing policies from President [Barack] Obama and his administration," Perry said in a statement provided to FOX News Channel.

"So today I join the many conservative Republicans across the nation in endorsing Mitt Romney for president and pledge to him, my constituents and the Republican Party that I will continue to work hard to help defeat President Obama.

When the dust settles, there will be no one left standing good enough for some people. The perfect has become the enemy of the good.

Well.. what now, FR?

Mitt IS the Republican nominee. Unless you want four more years of Obama, it’s time to rally round our Mormon???

Not gonna be easy for most around here.

He stayed loyal to Newt until after yesterday's primaries, I give him high marks for that.

Perry was and remains the best of this years announced candidates, IMO. Too bad he couldn't pull it off.

Put your faith in the ideas, but never in the man. The man will ALWAYS disappoint you.

The point being is our parties are built to win it all, to appeal to as broad a segment of the voters as possible. Not 80% of the electorate but 50%+. While in Canada, for example, the far left NDP does not expect to come close to 50% ever. They aim for their small slice and hope the party just to the right of them, the LP, finishes just short of a majority of seats.

The political insiders know this is a farce.

Others, not capable of critical thought, have political battered wives syndrome.

They keep getting lied to, and getting their teeth knocked out, yet keep coming back for more.

That is exactly the type of silly behavior that lonestar was talking about

"Silly behavior" is asking a simple question of you?

What does anyone expect from an Al Gore Democrat turned Giuliani Republican? Of course he would become a Romney Republican. No other outcome was likely.

Perry waited until Gingrich dropped out

Did you hear Newt say he dropped out or did you read it?

Well now, all of you that participated in the evisceration of Gov Rick Perry, and to those of you who stood by and allowed it to happen to a true Family man who is staunchly pro-life, a man who served his country with honor, believes in a strong defense, states rights, energy independence, small government, a man who is a true ally to Israel (the best friend we had in the barbaric area called the Middle East) and a man who has a true love for this Nation and its people that had the experience to right this ship, can now commence to continue to pile it on here. WOOOHOOO!

Throw your little fits (again). Let’s hear all about your objections (again); go ahead and subject the forum to your irrationality, (again). But keep this in mind, you deserve whatever hell is coming. The thing is, you are dragging the rest of the reasonable, thinking people along with you.

Due to the absolute irrationality and unreasonable demands of perfection, we now have Romney. Thank you. I'm sure you are quite representative of the stiff necked, thick skulled people that scream they're conservative, until a true conservative runs then it's time to bring out faults from 20 years ago. Contempt doesn't even begin to describe what you deserve. But you should be satisified because now we are stuck with Romney but at least it's not that RINO Gov Perry. Thank God for that huh?

Gov Perry is putting differences aside, he will do what is right for the country and will support the nominee. He probably doesn't like it in this case, but he loves this country more and realizes that Barack Hussein Obama is the true enemy of this country and of her people.

Personally, Romney makes my skin crawl but I will vote. Unfortunately, if Free Republic is any indication, many will 'sit' out or vote 3rd party.

Pity really, that those of you who pulled that stunt in 2008, are going to do it again. McCain part deux. And McCain was actually a stronger candidate than this thing that has bought his 'turn' in the procession. Expect the same results, only this time, it will finally slay the United States of America, that once great nation which will be a footnote in history. The commies thank you all.

But you stand tall! After all you have a point to make (again).

Would Perry be considered GOPe or Tea?

I am guessing e.

Could someone please explain to me this term "GOPe?" Thanks. I must have been sleeping when they previously defined it.

Perry will always be a Patriot in my eyes. The Bushes are the elite and hate conservatism. So it’s a good sign for Perry that he isn’t in their fun club. Papa Bush is NWO from the get go.

No, no, say it ain’t so. Not Sarah ! Not St. Sarah. Not Santissima Sara, Wonderwoman incarnate. No, Sarah will never, ever, never-ever sell us out. Sarah a RINO? Impossible.

[Fingers in ears] Not listening, not listening, not listening, not listening. If I don’t hear Sarah’s sellout when she sells out does that mean she didn’t do it? Not Sarah.

Who's this "us," you're talking about, disruptive troll, while sarcastically smearing Sarah Palin?

Sarah Palin has repeatedly said ABO = Anyone but Obama, just like all of Romney's rival candidates, (save for Ron Paul who's iffy) who have said they will endorse and support the eventual nominee.

Sarah Palin has made it crystal clear that Romney is her least favorite of all the candidates, by continuing to call for the process to continue, the vetting to continue, and for Newt Gingrich to stay in the race! She has even called for Ron Paul to stay in the race. Sheeeesh!

Provided the big-government, pro-abortion, liberal liar from Massachusetts manages to buy the GOP-E nomination, Sarah Palin will follow through with her ABO endorsement, then she will go about working her butt off for TEA PARTY candidates across this nation, in state houses and the US. Senate & House like she always has through her SarahPAC!

People like you need to grow the He// up and stop making Free Republic look like it tolerates idiots.

Why you're still here, is a mystery to me.

Governor Perry did not "sell out." Texas' Primary was moved so far back, it became irrelevant. Were Texas voting next week, there's no way he would have endorsed Romney, with Newt Gingrich still in the race.
