Despite speculation that he might drop out of the presidential race soon, Newt Gingrich said he is pressing on during an exclusive interview with NewsChannel 36 anchor Dave Wagner Tuesday afternoon.
“These reports somehow get exaggerated,” Gingrich. “We have 23 events this week…What I did say was that we are going to evaluate actively and honestly what has happened here.”
Gingrich spent part of Tuesday at the Billy Graham library with his wife and campaign staff. He is expected at an event Tuesday night in Concord as well.
“Under any circumstance we are going to be at every single event we outlined this week and our expectation is that we’ll continue to campaign until Romney gets to 1144 delegates.
“I think it is very important for the voters to be the people who decide, not the news media or the campaign consultants,” Gingrich added.

We Newt supporters can garner satisfaction from 2 facts (1) we are supporting the most competent person to be President; and, (2) the fact that his continued presence antagonizes the media, the GOP-e, the Newt-haters and the "realists".

Except the "realists" were entirely correct and all the fantasy happy-talk about Newt making a comeback was entirely wrong.
Also, I'd like Newt to come out of this with some credibility, dignity and ability to influence people intact. His voice is important and had things gone differently he might have been the nominee. Making a fool of himself by continuing a campaign that was obviously lost long ago reduces him to the level of Ron Paul and, quite frankly, that is terribly sad. Ron Paul is a kook and Gingrich should not be emulating him.

I voted today. Out of a population of 7,500, my poling place, one of 2, had 46 votes at 5 pm. There was ONE article in the paper yesterday that the primary was today. It was a well hidden event.

I will crawl over broken glass to vote against leftists - whatever gang colors the leftist wears.
We haven't had an actual conservative nominee since Reagan, yet conservatives are politically savvy enough to know the Republican RINO is better than the Democrat Socialist. The vast majority will rally to the nominee. You may not this time around, but many people I know who refused to vote for McCain regret it now and will hold their nose and vote for Willard. There is always a few that go back and forth like this every cycle.
One of the only ways to prevent another Republican hug-the-center squish from being nominated next time around is for conservatives to actually find a candidate and agree to support him or her early on. Unfortunately, conservatives are far too divided to even accomplish that. All it takes is one social conservative, scripture quoting candidate to enter the race and play spoiler like Huckabee or Santorum and the remaining conservative vote splinters to pieces. Unless this changes, I don't have a lot of hope 2016 or 2020 will be any better. Any conservative 3rd party someone tries to start (again) will be torn asunder by the same conflicts.
If he’s still in it May 8, I’m still voting for him. Piss on the liberals.
None of my conservative aquaintances will vote for Romney.
He has the same chance as Dole and McCain.

Yeah, that's what seems to have happened. The problem for Newt at this point is he has been reduced to only a protest vote since he has no chance to win, and we already have Ron Paul in the race for that. The result seems to be that the more serious voters ended up getting on board with Willard, and the protest voters went to Ron Paul who is, after all, the real protest candidate.
Then again, at least in Pennsylvania, non-candidate Santorum soundly crushed Newt too. Infact in PA, Gingrich managed to finish behind Santorum who had already dropped out AND Ron Paul.
Newt only finished second in Delaware.
Ron Paul dominated him in Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania as well.
Right now, if a conservative wants to deny Romney delegates, his best chance is to vote for Ron Paul.
Santorum also came very close to beating Newt in Rhode Island as well, and should beat Newt in total votes tonight. Not too shabby for a withdrawn candidate.
He can do whatever he wants, I’m in TX and I’m not voting for Romney. I’ll vote for Santorum, since I want to deny Romney some delegates.

I'd have to agree with this thinking. I don't like Paul myself, but he is THE protest candidate at this point. There isn't room for two, and Newt is just making a fool of himself now. Oddly enough, Newt might actually be keeping down Paul's vote totals by acting as a second spoiler protest candidate. In the end, for this election cycle anyway, it won't matter.

Not bad at all actually. But even Santorum knew at the end of the day there was no path to the nomination for him. Newt is just, well as I said before, really embarrassing himself now. I also think he is doing great damage to his brand.

There was a path, but not while Newt was in the race. Gingrich did the impossible, he was the final piece to the puzzle that ensured a Romney victory in the republican primary.
I'm proud of Newt for being the last Conservative standing...and I was Proud to vote for him today...he hasn't swayed from his intentions and stayed the course with ‘all’ against him....and he's not letting the media nor the other candidates determine if or when he's out...he's going the distance he feels is right for this country and I'm glad that he is.
