Is there a drone in your neighbourhood? Rise of spy planes exposed after FAA is forced to reveal 63 launch sites across U.S.

Unmanned spy planes are being launched from locations in 20 states and owners include the military and universities.

There are at least 63 active drone sites around the U.S, federal authorities have been forced to reveal following a landmark Freedom of Information lawsuit.

The unmanned planes – some of which may have been designed to kill terror suspects – are being launched from locations in 20 states.

Most of the active drones are deployed from military installations, enforcement agencies and border patrol teams, according to the Federal Aviation Authority.

There isn’t one over Indiana. Darn it! I so much wanted to display my Ackroyd for them while working in my forbidden garden.

I find the states that have none interesting.

It’s not due to an absence of military installations. It’s not due to low population.

I’m wondering if state law has something to do with it.

“I’m wondering if state law has something to do with it.”

Possibly; perhaps some of our resident legal experts can speak up on this.

And the feds have a data base from the Census having the GPS location within 60 feet of everyone’s home. They can access that data base surreptitiously and systematically without anyone knowing.

Just how good a rifle shot are you?

"Any article that doesn’t get that simple name right is suspect as being from kooks."

You may think they are kooks but I just read in my local paper here in Kansas about them and there were being used by a town and now since they have changed the FAA rules they can no longer fly them now.

At their operational altitudes, drones are invisible and inaudible.

Once upon a time people thought things like no knock raids, armed raids on guitar mfgrs. and oh, I dunno... the justice dept. turning a blind eye to terrorist groups intimidating voters was just ‘crazy talk’ too.

But by all means, have no suspicion. After all, Government is your friend. Especially the current one. Oh and did you hear? This week’s chocolate increased from 5 to 3 oz. this week!

>> FEMA camps and plastic coffins <<

There's a huge fema detention center in Fredrick, MD. I've seen it, plastic coffins and all. Also, jersey barriers are being ‘staged’ along various interstates around the country. The feds are gearing up for something.

I was wondering why Cannon Air Force Base wasn't on that list but wasn't going to say anything publicly until I saw your comment.

I was once the military reporter for the Clovis News Journal. I have no recent non-public information, but based on what I know was happening a half-decade ago, there may be entirely legitimate OPSEC reasons not to discuss this further on the internet. Let's just say there are reasons Cannon AFB was the only installation to be taken off the last BRAC closure list and not all of them were discussed publicly.

Nice profile photo, by the way. Am I correct in guessing that you share a love for elk hunting with a former Secretary of Defense? Those are beautiful beasts, and make great eating as well.

>And the line about ‘some of which have been designed to kill terrorists’ refers to the fact that Predators carry Hellfires. Doesn’t mean that they do, in the U.S., just that they can.

Considering that, in addition to the President’s assertion that he can order the assassination/killing/murder of a US citizen merely SUSPECTED of terrorism (and not on the battlefield), AND the National Defense Authorization Act, which [IIRC] makes the continental US a war-zone and I think that there is reason for concern.

Correct and exactly.

TD&E takes time and space, and there are many builders as they explore the technology. . .from university students, Boy Scouts, to military testing. Those make up the majority of sites. I guess we could just built them and sell them to the military and never test them.

Armed UAV’s are not flying willy-nilly over US airspace. Those ops are the exclusive domain of military testing—period. More people need to understand these facts.

DHS, CBP Air and Marine has several locations and they fly a relatively small fleet along the border and over US seas.

FAA has a lock-down on UAV operations and restrictions require chase aircraft if they operate outside controlled airspace. . .therefore they are not just flying around everywhere. DHS CBP Air and Marine has an FAA waiver but they MUST remain in the cleared airpspace and not fly outside of that airspace, and if they do, it simple has to be darned important to justify it to the FAA. . .like a Border Patrol Agent in serious danger.

Heck, UAVs might lead to LE using helicopters and airplanes. . .gawd help us?

What?

Oh. . .wait. . .never mind.

My local Sheriff’s Department is “authorized”. Lots of air activity in a place with many small regional airports...I can understand why it would be a good place to “test”, and one can’t deny the economic benefits of using drones instead of helicopters.

Remember these folding wing jobs??

Scale it up just a little; get ya some bungee latex tubing for launching, and you have a HIGH altitude glider that makes NO buzzing sound at ALL!
