Not sure where you get your history from...both California state houses were controlled by the democrats for both of Reagan’s terms. But yes, California tended to vote Republican for President...but not much else...

During his tenure as Governor he called for some tax increases and backed off on some budget cuts...something that would probably make it impossible for people like you to vote for him today.

It’s ok if you support gun control, global warming, socialized healthcare, gay marriage, etc and you want to vote for Romney. Knock yourself out. Just don’t try to tell me he is a conservative and that I should vote for him.
Go do some Romney cheer leading on his site. You can brag about being an Econ minor and a “severe conservative”. They will love you over there.
