Romney gaining conservatives' support, if not their hearts
Washington Post ^ | apr 19, 2012 | Rosalind S. Helderman and Sandhya Somashekhar

Mitt Romney was not his first choice for president, but conservative political activist Scott Magill has come to accept that Romney is now his only choice. So Magill is looking for reasons to get jazzed about the candidate he once dismissed.

His list so far: Romney is a Republican who would sign into law legislation passed by a GOP-led House. Romney has started to hit the right talking points. If elected, Romney would have to listen to the conservative base - or risk its wrath at reelection time.

Also, and perhaps most important, Romney is not Barack Obama.

The conservative base appears to be warming to Romney, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted after Santorum's exit, which found that about 80 percent of conservative Republicans hold favorable views of Romney - a record percentage for the candidate.

Santorum's withdrawal from the field has opened the door for many groups that had been uncomfortable with his candidacy to embrace Romney, including the National Right to Life; the Susan B. Anthony List; National Organization for Marriage, which opposes same-sex marriage.

The blueblood oligarch "Republican" Washingtonians are no different than Communist "Democrat" Washingtonians.

DC apparatchiks who steal our money at gunpoint, skim off the top for themselves and their friends, and then redistribute it in exchange for votes.

Anybody who thinks this is going to be stopped via the electoral process is insane.

The US Federal Government post Civil War has turned into a criminal enterprise run by lawyers and bureaucrats for their own perpetual enrichment at the expense of the productive class.

It has also ceased to be a representative Republic and has turned into a sure to fail Democracy.

The Founders didn't put a right to vote into the Constitution for a very simple reason; they didn't want imbeciles, those under 21, and lazy parasites to be enfranchised, in fact warned against it, leaving the States to determine who could cast ballots.

Doesn't have to be blood in the streets , the military can fire every single one of these clowns and start from scratch.

Provisional military government for 6 months, then new elections for all congressional seats and the WH, incumbents need not apply, strict term limits.

Only tax paying citizens and veterans are enfranchised in the new Republic.

The Republic can be be reset with all Amendments other then the original Bill of Rights repealed.

“Dueling” legalized within Washington DC limits.

Problem solved

The franchise must be limited and determined by the states.

Incorporate term limits and rotate the Capital amongst the States.

"Democracies have been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their death." James Madison

Remember democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide. John Adams: letter to John Taylor, April 15, 1814

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.:Thomas Jefferson

Exactly.

This electorate, when presented with the “choice” of cool, black rock-star Obama, vs. the buttoned-down, stiff white version, they`ll opt for the rock star who gives them tingles.

Romney hasn`t a snowflake`s chance in hell of winning in November.

Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party gets my vote over Obama`s white brother.

Oh, absolutely-—if Romney was a conservative, I wouldn’t care either. As it is, though, that walk just stuck out to me every time he came onstage at the debates. It just kind of puts the disgusting cherry on top of the revulsion I feel for him, LOL.

“At some point we need to stand up and fight. If not now then when?’

How is re-electing Obama considered “standing up and fighting”?

What do you think will be left of the US after another Obama term, where he won’t have to worry about even pretending to be a moderate?

Just remember what Obama told Medvedev:

“after my election I will have more flexibility.”

and he isn’t just doing it in foreign policy.

I agree with LibFreeUSA:

“AM NOT a ‘ROMNEY SUPPORTER’. I AM AN ‘OBAMA OPPONENT’.”

Anyone living in reality can see that we’ll have either Obama or Romney as president for the next four years. The primary is basically over — all the non-Romney candidates our out. Romney was certainly not anywhere near the top on my list of Republican candidates, but now we need to face reality and while bashing Romney may feel good, our choice in the fall is Obama or Romney. The US can’t afford four more years of Obama, when nothing will constrain him.

As I said in a previous post: if you ONLY have a choice between hamburger and chicken, are you going to hold out and starve to death, because you will refuse to eat anything but filet mignon?

That article gets its source from the same ABC-Washington Post poll. The author’s profile also indicates he is part of the Washington establishment (20 years in Washington working for Reuters....) So he’s a Romney shill.

"Say you are starving and you only have a choice between hamburger or chicken. Are you going to starve to death, because you decided that you will only eat filet mignon?"

Not really accurate. The truth is, we ARE starving, but we're faced with a choice between rat poison and antifreeze. Both are unthinkable, to me, at least. At this point, I would be HAPPY with hamburger.

Considering that the MSM is a strong Obama supporter, what is their motivation for printing a positive article about Romney?

No one is responding to this line because it is quite possibly the stupidest analogy I have read yet.

Romney and Obama are both socialists. They both support gun control, global warming, gay marriage, etc.

This is like voting in the Democratic primary. If Romney is the nominee, I will vote my conscience and principles. I’m a conservative first.

FUMR!

Liberals and Romneybots are giddy at the idea of RINOmny being the nominee. He will make Mondale look like a winner.

Too easy.

Birds of a feather flock together.

“Even Reagan could not do it”

I find it doubtful Mitt Romney would try, or is inclined to, based on his actions.

That would be: getting Romney the nomination, so the Republican party moves to the left, guaranteeing either socialism (Romney victory) or Communism (Obama victory). The MSM is following its directions:

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

Why are you promoting Romney as a thread on FR? The only “reality” you’re promoting is the one the media is...so are you carrying their water for them?
