Romney gaining conservatives' support, if not their hearts
Washington Post ^ | apr 19, 2012 | Rosalind S. Helderman and Sandhya Somashekhar

Mitt Romney was not his first choice for president, but conservative political activist Scott Magill has come to accept that Romney is now his only choice. So Magill is looking for reasons to get jazzed about the candidate he once dismissed.

His list so far: Romney is a Republican who would sign into law legislation passed by a GOP-led House. Romney has started to hit the right talking points. If elected, Romney would have to listen to the conservative base - or risk its wrath at reelection time.

Also, and perhaps most important, Romney is not Barack Obama.

The conservative base appears to be warming to Romney, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted after Santorum's exit, which found that about 80 percent of conservative Republicans hold favorable views of Romney - a record percentage for the candidate.

Santorum's withdrawal from the field has opened the door for many groups that had been uncomfortable with his candidacy to embrace Romney, including the National Right to Life; the Susan B. Anthony List; National Organization for Marriage, which opposes same-sex marriage.

there is something worthy of our fear:

NEVER!

but I have “hope” we will change that!

Me, too - like dropping the fear, as it's the absence of faith. Just believe..

Alot on this site is by default shilling for Obama and it is disgusting. I voted for Newt but am voting for anyone to get the marxist muslim anti-American racist out of the white house. This will start to become an echo chamber very soon as you realize people want Obama out of the Whitehouse at all costs. Good luck with calling folks evil and cowards.

Then you have not read about what he did in Massachusetts...

I've lived in MA all my life -- front row seat, so to speak.

“I’ve lived in MA all my life — front row seat, so to speak.”

Ah yes, you mean the state where he won the primary with over 70% voting for him? They must really hate him there...

The turnout was laughably low — and expectedly: my polling place was barely open; it’s usually bustling, even for a primary. And given the fact that MA GOP registration is low, and the Unenrolled (majority of registrations, I believe) can vote in either primary, hard to say what it means.

Turnout was low here in Illinois as well...at least in area where we live. Hope people come out this fall to vote Republican or we are in very serious trouble.

Maybe you should check Jim Rob’s chart on Romney and Obama. Both are pro-gun control, pro-global warming, pro-abortion, pro-socialism, pro- cap&trade, pro-raising the min wage, pro-subsidized loans. I would say that they both have no core principles...but that only applies to RINOmny. I despise Obama’s, but at least I know where he stands based on rhetoric and record.

I forgot one difference....Obama defines the “rich” at $250k dual income...Romney defines that at $200k.

If we are going to have a gun grabbing socialist in office, I would rather it be a Democrat. At least the GOP might offer up some token resistance.

That being said, I’m voting Newt...until he’s out. If he’s out...its 3rd party for me. Romney and Obama are both scum.

Romney will not get my support. He’s an ultra-liberal.

whatever dude, I thought this was a board for a more mature audience. I was for Sarah Palin, then Herman Cain, voted for Newt in the AZ primary but he’s done. So I’m being an adult now and voting for the lesser of 2 evils.
