Romney gaining conservatives' support, if not their hearts
Washington Post ^ | apr 19, 2012 | Rosalind S. Helderman and Sandhya Somashekhar

Mitt Romney was not his first choice for president, but conservative political activist Scott Magill has come to accept that Romney is now his only choice. So Magill is looking for reasons to get jazzed about the candidate he once dismissed.

His list so far: Romney is a Republican who would sign into law legislation passed by a GOP-led House. Romney has started to hit the right talking points. If elected, Romney would have to listen to the conservative base - or risk its wrath at reelection time.

Also, and perhaps most important, Romney is not Barack Obama.

The conservative base appears to be warming to Romney, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll conducted after Santorum's exit, which found that about 80 percent of conservative Republicans hold favorable views of Romney - a record percentage for the candidate.

Santorum's withdrawal from the field has opened the door for many groups that had been uncomfortable with his candidacy to embrace Romney, including the National Right to Life; the Susan B. Anthony List; National Organization for Marriage, which opposes same-sex marriage.

Nice pic of a pair of Romney Republicans.

"Romney has a record? What record? Huh?"

P.S.

http://www.gop.com/2008Platform/NationalSecurity.htm

Here is one paragraph from the Republican platform:

The all-volunteer force has been a success. We oppose reinstituting the draft, whether directly or through compulsory national service. We support the advancement of women in the military and their exemption from ground combat units. Military priorities and mission must determine personnel policies. Esprit and cohesion are necessary for military effectiveness and success on the battlefield. To protect our servicemen and women and ensure that America's Armed Forces remain the best in the world, we affirm the timelessness of those values, the benefits of traditional military culture, and the incompatibility of homosexuality with military service.

Does your reality RINO now support this part platform today?

It will be interesting to see how the RINO's attempt to change the platform. I, and I am sure many, will be watching what they actually do, versus what they say. Reality my ass!!!!!

Gutless conservatives whore themselves out for Romney...just like how he whores himself out votes.

Wow...a minor in economics....how is that even relevant? Ha ha ha. Shouldn’t you be off making your millions? Ha ha ha.

Look this isn’t a Republican cheerleader site. People here don’t just toe for someone because they have an R behind their name. Most people pride themselves on being principled conservatives. This is conservative site.

You came on FR posting links to RINOmny’s website, imploring people to believe he is a conservative. That is the equivalent of trying to sell dog turds with a nice lemon butter sauce and expecting FR readers to think its filet mignon.

If you want to support a gun grabbing turd like Romney ...go ahead. Pretend you are a conservative as you pull the lever for the architect of socialized healthcare in America...if that makes you feel good.

Just don’t come on this site trying to cram your pro abortion empty suit on conservatives.

“Electing Romney is a step away from democrat party power, that makes it good enough at this time for me.”

Answer this simple question, by a simple answer. Yes or No would suffice:

Was Romney’s election as governor of Massachusetts “a step away from democrat party power” there, YES or NO?

So, what you are saying is you are just another gutless lemming paving the way for the democrat party while pretending you are principled and smart? What a joke...

Bet you don’t have much going on with your life other than this empty feeling of superiority with nonsensical illogical delusions of what you think is principled and conservative.

I do have empathy for you, but for others here I cannot show too much of that because you so willingly put yourself in a position that deserves ridicule and scorn.

Please forgive me for not falling into your unreasonable thinking...Romney was elected governor of Massachusetts, but Massachusetts is not anything like the demographics of the rest of the nation. Was Reagan elected governor of California? Is California conservative? But, I think we will all agree that Reagan influenced a growth in conservatism, even though he did liberal things as governor...

I’m not the one voting for the pro gun control, pro abortion, pro global warming, pro socialized medicine, empty suit Romney.

I’d say that proclaiming you are a “principled conservative” then voting for anyone with an R behind their name, knowing their record...makes that person a “gutless lemming”.

Ha ha! Ridicule and scorn from a Romneybot! That’s my favorite kind! Being attacked by Romneybot professing to be a “severe conservatives” is the best! Ha ha!

That and a minor in economics will buy you a RINOmny sign for your front yard!

His governance in Mass. IS RELEVANT, because he led the politics of the left there during his whole term: Romneycare, coercion of free citizens to buy insurance or punishing them with a $2,000 fine, if they don’t obey his order, pro-abortion bill, coercing the Catholics to provide abortive pills and adoptions of children for gay couples, anti-gun bill, anti-business (increased the taxes by $700 million), pro-gay marriage even when the Mass. Supreme Court declared it UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

I don’t trust Romney, as he has NO conservative credentials WHATSOEVER.

As for the “R” attached to his name, in his own words “stands not for Republican, but for reformer”. If the GOP establishment supports a non-Republican candidate in 2012, that’s their problem, not mine.

In conscience, I cannot vote for a “reformer moderate with progressive views”, as Romney described himself, while seeking the place of governor. And he acted like one.

Is Romney a RINOlander,
Who caves-in to Debt-Decline?
Will he re-write Obama”care,”
And propel us into financial hell?

Will Romney cast out REASON,
And join the Democrat’s lot?
Romney’s past brings sparse hope to mind,
Of those that are TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY,
Of those who are not blind.

Wow...learn some basic political history...or at least look it up before you spout off. CA pretty consistently voted Republican prior to 1992. The state as a whole is largely conservative ( by geography...not population) with the exception of the large metropolitan areas of SF and LA.

Comparing Reagan and to unprincipled SoS like Romney is laughable at best.

According to the poll:

“about 80 percent of conservative Republicans hold favorable views of Romney - a record percentage for the candidate. “

He stands for NOTHING, except he really does seem to like the homosexual agenda. He was pushing it on teens when he was governor.

Take your Romney cheerleading elsewhere. It will not fly on FR!!

You should probably avoid linking to Romney’s website for your arguments about how conservative he is. That kind of self inflicted wound will get you zotted pretty fast...and I am having way too much fun to cut this short. Ha ha ha

So-called conservatives will vote for Romney because they feel they have no choice or are unwilling or unable to write in a candidate, vote third party or stay home.

I dont know what I’m going to do, but one thing is sure: I will NOT vote for Romney
