The office of the Los Angeles County coroner has completed its investigation into the death of Andrew Breitbart on March 1, and has confirmed that he died of natural causes, namely heart failure.

Chief Coroner Investigator Craig Harvey told Breitbart News that the final autopsy report would be released next week.

A press release issued by the Department of Coroner (below) notes: "No prescription or illicit drugs were detected. The blood alcohol was .04%," a negligible amount.

The press release concludes: "No significant trauma was present and foul play is not suspected."

It might also suggest he was not a very compliant cardiac patient (if he had any cardiac meds).

Your point?

I have heart disease. One of my meds keeps my heart beating. Should I not take the drug? If I don’t, I’m dead.

Did the dead thing once (cardiac arrest). Not in a hurry to do it again.

Thanks for posting the wonderful picture.
Still miss him greatly.
What a loss for all conservatives and our country, and of course his wife and children.

Fearless Patriot, RIP Andrew.

Fine. You need your meds. Take your meds. But we happen to live in a society where people believe there’s a pill to fix everything from obesity to unruly children and in that respect I am totally anti-meds. Often there are other solutions with far fewer side effects. Balance — something today’s society is completely unable to grasp.

RIP, Breitbart.

Ummm ... just what is ‘heart failure’ anyway? Can they be more specific? And then, what causes heart failure?

In Breitbart's case it would be heart enlargement, which causes the heart to pump less efficiently. It also causes rhythm problems. As the heart becomes less efficient, it works harder which causes more enlargement, and the cycle continues. Many times there are no symptoms because of this compensation. And the first symptom is sudden death.

Any unknown, little known drugs that can induce that (like muscle relaxers, etc)?

Long term cocaine use can cause a lot of heart problems, but I guess you're asking if this could be murder. I doubt it. High blood pressure is the most common cause, and I believe Breitbart's family said they knew he had heart problems.

His wasn’t Roseacea as far as I know. He had the look of a high BP man. Do you think he looked remotely healthy?

Potassium can cause problems, but it takes quite a bit of it. It is the active ingredient in euthanasia and executions. It is present in many foods but hardly ever added as a supplement.

Heart failure is a term referring to the inability of the heart to pump blood efficiently. Usually it is the result of problems with the kidneys.

The heart is perfectly sized to pump a proportionate amount on both sides. It is tuly amazing. One side pumps to the body, the other side to the lungs. If the balance is off, you get swelling in the extremities, if it is off the other way, you get fluid in the lungs.

I think that if he died of heart failure, he would have died slowly. If he died of a heart attack, it might be said that his heart failed, but that wouldn't be heart failure. That's what I believe. As far as if it were foul play, I would suspect a sudden infusion of potassium, either in a drink or injected. Death would be quick and no trace would remain.

You never know. I was once friends with an Air Force officer who was a jet pilot. He was in terrific shape (lean and wiry in build; we often played racquetball). Then he was transferred to a European country and shortly thereafter my wife and I got a note from his wife telling us that he had dropped dead of a massive heart attack.

The AF doctors had never known of his defective heart. Maybe it wasn’t detectable.

Why do I get the feeling this conclusion was preordained?

Maybe because you always feel like that.

Maybe it was a heart attack or maybe it was one of the 2000+ plant alkaloids that cause a heart attack.

He should have had some trauma, as witnesses said he just fell over dead on an asphalt road. You don't put your hands out to stop yourself if you just suddenly die of a heart attack. My husband has seen tons of patients, some who survived after CPR,some that didn't, and there's usually a face/ head wound to go along with the heart attack, many quite severe. Just sayin’.
