Whole lot of stories about the tea party having fizzled will need to be rewritten if Mourdock pulls this off. Remember, as of two months ago, he was 25 points ahead.
Indiana state treasurer Richard Mourdock leads Senator Dick Lugar by one point according to a poll commissioned by the Mourdock campaign. Conducted between April 16 and 17 by the firm McLaughlin and Associates, the poll surveyed 400 likely Republican primary voters and found Mourdock in the lead, 4241, against Lugar. The poll had a 4.9 percent margin of error.
Since January, Lugars favorability rating has fallen ten points, from 57 to 47 percent, while Mourdocks has risen by eleven, from 35 to 46 percent. These results clearly demonstrate that Richard Mourdock has the momentum to win, a memo from pollsters John McLaughlin and Stuart Polk notes.
Mourdock and Lugar held a televised debate just six days ago, so if the internal poll is correct and his numbers are surging, theres one likely explanation Indianans finally had a good look at him and liked what they saw. Im amazed, frankly, that Lugar would do him the favor of raising his name recognition by sharing a stage with him. Hes been winning walkover primaries for more than 30 years; if he ignored Mourdock entirely, its a safe bet that some chunk of Indiana Republicans wouldnt be able to pick RM out of a lineup and would pull the lever reflexively for the incumbent on election day. In fact, according to the Indy Star, while Mourdock outraised Lugar in the last quarter, nearly three-quarters of his donations came from out of state compared to a little more than half for Lugar an ironic counterpoint to the charge that Lugars left Indiana behind by going native inside the Beltway.

It is also fun to see the RINO hacks Mitch Daniels and Juan McLame, running around like their hair is on fire, pimping for Droopy Dog Lugar. Panic is setting in.
Lets get these guys out the door and into retirement. At least that is something 90% of Free Republic can PROBABLY agree to (minus some of the Republican Party-Firsters/RINOs that show up here).
To think Daniels could have run for POTUS. Loyalty to one’s former employer is good but Lugar is 80 years old! Shoulda’ quit 18 years ago.
I want Lugar and Hatch (UT) out of office as bad as I want obama out of office.
Mourdock seems strong in my county. I see Lugar’s mug all over the news and in attack ads. Strange to see our Senator in our state; its so unusual and boy has he aged. Yep, we’re sending him into retirement in 2012.
If I am going to get stuck having only one of those two dudes getting kicked out, I hope it is Lugar. Is is just the worst of the worst. Lugars list of despicable acts is too long to list.
Your excerpt is confusing. Who was ahead 25 points months ago Lugar?
“I want Lugar and Hatch (UT) out of office as bad as I want obama out of office.”
I’m with you.
I heard somewhere that Hatch has some redeeming qualities.
