GOP strategists: Puerto Rico Gov. Fortuno is a sleeper vice presidential pick
The Hill ^ | April 14, 2012 | Daniel Strauss

Puerto Rico Gov. Luis Fortuno (R) is a sleeper pick for the No. 2 spot on the 2012 presidential ticket, according to GOP strategists.

Republican front-runner Mitt Romney has kept his cards close to his chest on vice presidential prospects, saying that it would be “presumptuous” to think about it before winning the nomination. But in a recent interview with Newsmax, he described Fortuno as “a solid conservative and a firm leader.” He also dubbed Fortuno “one of the great leaders of our party.”

This is an intriguing possibility. Romney needs a running mate with some kind of star power and something different to offer.

Romney needs not to be the candidate. I don’t care who his VP is.

Plus it puts Puerto Rico in play in the general election.

Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory, not a state. The U.S. citizens born in Puerto Rico are not natural born citizens. Fortuno is not eligible to be VP, much less President.

What the Hell is wrong with this party? We’re morphing into criminal Democrats!

Funny! Yes, Romney can win all zero of Puerto Rico’s electoral votes.

But Romney probably will pick an Hispanic or someone from a swing state since his political history indicates he is willing to win at all costs. Romney does not care if flip flops more frequently than John Kerry, nor does he care if he goes almost 100% negative on other Republicans. Romney just wants to win.

You are wrong there. Children born in US territories are US citizens. Technically Puerto Rico is a US commonwealth.

Puerto Ricans are US citizens. I am 100% certain of this.

I don’t like Romney either, but it looks like we’re stuck with him.

I assume, then, that you are acknowledging that Barry Goldwater (born January 2, 1909) from Arizona (became a state February 14, 1912) was an illegal candidate for the office of President when he led the GOP ticket in 1964?

But in sports, there is no such things as “moderates.” You win, and you win.

In politics, we can win and yet still lose if we elect a moderate or liberal.

Folks. Let's get a grip. Does anyone think a milquetoast like Milt is going to do something exciting for a VP pick? He is going to pick a person that is even less dynamic than he is so he doesn't get outshined.

I said they are citizens.

It has been granted them by Congress. And yes, they are a Commonwealth.

But they are not a state and HAVE REPEATEDLY REJECTED JOINING THE UNITED STATES AS A STATE.

Citizens, yes; natural born citizens, no. Puerto Ricans cannot serve as President or VP.

You may be stuck with him.

I'm not voting for the degenerate scumbag.

Why are "we" stuck with him?.

By the way, this article is ridiculous, somebody is pulling Strauss's leg.

the Governor of Samoa got a better shot at VP than the Governor of PR.

This is like a bad Twilight Zone episode.
