George Zimmerman case could hit 2012 presidential race
The Politico ^ | April 13, 2012 | M.J. Lee

Could George Zimmerman be the October surprise?

Depending on the timing of legal developments in Florida, the court proceedings and possible trial of Trayvon Martin’s killer - one of the highest-profile and most racially charged cases in years - could be thrust into the middle of the 2012 presidential election.

Legal experts and political consultants disagree over what that would mean for President Barack Obama and the presumptive Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

In recent press appearances, Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, predicted that it would be at least six months and possibly as long as a year before his client faces a trial. The short end of that would put the case smack in the homestretch of the White House contest, while the long end would make the trial a non-factor in the presidential contest.

But there’s another scenario that makes it more likely that the case could play into the 2012 race.

Under the so-called “Stand Your Ground” law in Florida — the controversial measure that until this week had allowed Zimmerman to avoid an arrest after the Feb.26 shooting in Sanford – the accused can ask for an “evidentiary hearing” to try to have their case tossed out. That hearing could take place within a matter of months...

I will laugh my big ol' butt off if he's exonerated at the evidentiary hearing or even before. Good luck controlling those riots, Barry.

According to Dershowitz, the judge could very well toss the case.

The journ-o-listers are beginning to sense that this case may turn out to be more like the OJ Simpson case where in the end only the black demographic believes the narrative.

My guess is the drive-by media will make a collective decision to bury the case sometime soon.

...could be thrust into the middle of the 2012 presidential election.

Could be? That's the whole point of it.

I’m starting to think that’s why he was charged with 2nd degree murder, rather than manslaughter or some such. There’s no way in hell they can get a conviction on 2nd degree unless there’s a lot we don’t know about what happened that night.

It would be nice if every article about this case referred to George Zimmerman as Democrat George Zimmermam

“Good luck controlling those riots, Barry.”

And they WILL happen - the race pimps have way too much capital tied up in this case.

Interesting to speculate about how the “spontaneous wealth redistribution initiatives” (read: looting) and “street justice demonstrations” (read: beatings and murders of non-blacks) will bear on the upcoming election.

Hmm...

Polling is showing that GOP voters are not interested in this case. They are not buying this distraction while gas prices are through the roof and the economy sucks. The only ones who care are the usual Obummer supporters who think Wonder Bread is inherently racist because of its color. I don’t think this thing will matter a hill of beans in the election as hard as the Rats try to make it matter.

LOL, liberals are so freaking pathetic. They want to kill Stand Your Ground, so what do they do? They pick a case where the victim was flat on his back being beaten to death, and shot his attacker precisely because he COULDN'T stand his ground.

LOL, what a bunch of clowns!

Agreed. This case can only be a loser for Obama. Another Crowley-Gates. Obama will rue the statement that Martin could have been his son.

COULD hit it? OMG that is the WHOLE IDEA of this charade...!

A very similar case exists in Calif, yet NO ONE knows of it. Why? Cuz California is NOT a huge swing state, and the libs know the Muslim Bisexual is weak in the polls, so the EstablishmentMediaMachine has to help him starting NOW.

THIS IS ALL OBAMA 2012 PREP WORK.

I have watched enough court drama on TV to know that the judge instructs the jury to convict on the count OR LESSER CHARGES. Could this happen here? If its an October surprise I hope it bites Obummer’s ass.

Maybe Democrat George Zimmerman was part of Eric Holder’s Floridian Gunrunner project. How do we know he was not paid to do what he did? You know, to prove a point that guns should be illegal and also create chaos during the election year so that the American people will just not have the desire to change administrations in the middle of such a mess. Besides, it will look better if we keep a black man as our leader during the race riots.

Keep an eye on Sharpton and Jackson. They hustled down to Duke University pretty quickly when the hatred of the lacrosse team had come to full voice, but they very quietly slinked away with their hands in their pockets when it started to become clear to everybody (not just us FReepers) that there was no case.

I’m not saying there’s no case here — I’m saying that the race hustlers won’t go out on a limb if it starts to look like the case against Zimmerman is a loser.

Why will this case be an issue, even if it does go to trial though it shouldn’t? The nominees from both parties are likely to be in total agreement about the case — on the wrong side, of course.

Bonzo & Mittens can get together at a debate and have a Kum-bay-ya moment. Won’t that be wonderful?

1. If convicted - It will help energize Florida blacks 4 Obama

2. If tossed - It supplies ammo for “White hatred resulted in this case being tossed, and THAT is also why they tossed our super smart, black POTUS...” So it makes a face-saving excuse.

3. If exonerated - Same as above.

Why didn’t they go for manslaughter? Cuz they’re going for either the Hail Mary, or they WANT it to be tossed.

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE **ELECTION**.
