Tea party leader warns Romney: Don’t expect us to campaign for you (Iced Tea)
Daily Caller ^ | 4-13-12 | Alex Pappas

The leader of the Tea Party Nation organization has a blunt message for likely Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney: Tea partiers will likely vote for you, but don’t expect them to get energized and campaign for you.

“The tea party is not going to coalesce around Romney,” Judson Phillips told The Daily Caller on Thursday. “Most of us will vote for Romney, but we will not be out there with signs for him or in his campaign.”

Phillips said that surveys conducted on the Tea Party Nation website have shown that about 25 percent of tea party activists say they won’t vote for Romney in the general election.

-snip- Another conservative leader, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council, struck a similar note after former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum dropped out of the presidential race this week.

“It’s difficult for us to back a candidate our constituents don’t believe in and aren’t excited about,” Perkins told CNN

Do what you wanna do; nobody gives a crap. But, since you apparently don’t care about this Election, why are you even on this website. Go play Solitaire or something.

>>Again, Tea Party I love you but, STFU if all you are going to do is attack the candidate running under the GOP banner.<<

That tow the party line rhetoric seems familiar somehow. The party elite thank you I’m sure. They sort of knew most of you would fall in line once they convinced the sheeple that resistance was futile.

My point is that the dynamics of the campaign will dictate down-ballot elections, and if the electorate favors Obama, they will give Harry Reid the majority again. If you thought things were bad since 2008, just imagine what's in store in a second Obama term.

You make a valid point.

I wonder why the GOP elite didn't think of it before pushing the lying, etch-a-sketch, liberal down our throats.

Or did they?

I have a different take. I think Romney was pushed deliberately to take the tea party down. This was telegraphed when the party elites not only failed to promote several tea party candidates in 2010, but actually opposed them. Mr. Rove's words about O'Donnell, told me all I needed to know about the GOP elite and that is they are not on the same team we are.

The GOP elite purposely pushed the most liberal candidate they thought they could win. Now, Mr. Rove's words may come back to haunt him. You got him nominated, now get him elected.

Romney certainly doesn't have a shot at all in this household.

I heard Romney say “coRalesce” which, as far as I know, isn’t a word. Another dummy potentially heading up the free world.

Are you referring to Geoge W. or Dan Quayle? They were demonized by the media and made to look like dummies. But, they were both very smart.

I do care about this election. My prefered candidate got Borked by the GOP-e and the media. The GOP-e is dead to me until they support a conservative.

And I've been on this website longer than you have, newb. It's a CONSERVATIVE web site, not a Republican website.

I do blame the GOP-e for pushing Mitt on us. But they did it, its a done deal (at least it appears that way) and now you have a choice of Mitt or Obama. They are very similar in so many ways it is hard to tell the difference, but Mitt does not have long radical history of hating this country, appeasing our enemies and vilifying our allies, hating and vilifying the Constitution, and promoting race hatred and race baiting. Also, I doubt seriously Mitt is going to abuse the power of executive orders to bypass a republican congress.

There is a difference, and by not seeing that and by not voting for Mitt (if he is the nominee) you are helping Obama get re elected. If that is ok with you in order to stand by your convictions, then so be it. It is not ok with me, I don’t think this country can survive another four years of Obama. God help us.

Wow! And those 4 votes will probably seal his defeat.

Nope. There will be candidates for the Constitution, Libertarian and other parties on the ballot.

It's YOU who are helping elect Obama by pushing the hand-picked GOP-e liberal.

They must be important if I'm being told that I'm re-electing Obama by voting conservative.

Principles matter.

And by voting for Romney, you are voting for Obama-lite and giving the GOP-e the green light to continue their methods. Mitt won't have to bypass a GOP-e controlled congress because the GOP-e will tell him what to do, he will do it, then the GOP-e congress will rubber stamp it into law.

I don't think this country will survive another four years of big political machine dominated government, whether it's Obama or Romney and the GOP-e makes little difference.

Yeah, you vote your convictions and after Obama is re-elected, Holder will have you convicted of Breathing While Being White!

You better hope he does. Besides before you rush to condemn maybe you should wait and see if the man becomes a leader of conservatives before you contemn him as a liberal from a leftist state.

We ain’t got a lot of options here, we might as well run with the horse we got and hope its better than the horse trying to enslave us to a socialist state.

Agreed with post 17. I’m not voting for Romney. He’s anti-gun, supports initiatives similiar to Obamacare, and stands for much that I find repulsive. I’m not voting for a libtard. I’ll leave that section of the ballot blank.

If the Republican Party can’t pick a Conservative candidate, they don’t need my support or my vote. Instead of fixing the sucking chest wound our nation has with the Romney bandaid, we need major surgery to fix it. Romney will only keep us down this failed path. I won’t support that by voting for him.

Exactly. Anyone pimping Romney in any way is actively voting for Obama.

Romney is not the candidate yet and the Tea party is telling the GOP party the consequences of selecting a statist lite (Romney) against a statist (Obama). We are influencing the primaries that way. It is our message that is getting out and getting coverage in the press. If Romney can be denied the delegates he requires to win the nomination, then the Tea Party would have acheived an important victory. That also happens to be the only way a conservative has a chance via a brokered convention.

You are making the assumption that conservatives will just stay home. Not a single conservative I have talked to said that is what they are going to do. In fact, most of us who will not vote for Romney will vote GOP down ticket and write in a protest vote for president.

There is little difference between the horse trying to enslave us to a socialist state and the horse trying to enslave us to a socialist state, who says he isn’t. Oh wait, they both say that. Does it just come down to who is the better liar?
