I accept your conflation of amartia
with "mis-take," but that's not our common, English meaning of "mistake." We mean, by "mistake," "I shouldn't be held responsible." That is a tremendous problem in our society, and I think we need not only to clearly identify deliberate sin but also to point out that many fairly legitimate "mistakes" are the expected outcome of behaviors that were under the control of the actor.
Yes, I drive my children nuts, but I won't have them growing up to be Democrats if there's anything I can do about it.

But here is the common definition of mistake to which I was referring:
mis·take (m -st k ). n. 1. An error or fault resulting from defective judgment, deficient knowledge, or carelessness.
