Would a Romney-Gingrich ticket be acceptable to Jim Robinson & other conservative Freepers? [NO!! ]
[Not only no, but HELL NO!! NEVER AGAIN!! - Jim] | April 9, 2012 | Ralph Mitchell

Posted on 04/09/2012 8:06:05 AM PDT by mitchell001

Since Newt Gingrich is talking teamwork and cooperation with Romney & Santorum to defeat Obama, would Jim Robinson and conservative Free Republic people join me in accepting and pushing a Romney-Gingrich ticket. Frankly, I bristle at the mention of Romney-Nicki Halley or other RINO tickets. Personally, Romney would be very smart to put conservatives at the table of his campaign and administration team. Newt is so passionate about Big Ideas, reform and he knows how to push the levers of Congress. Mitt Romney can be a good president, however, with Newt on his team, Mitt Romney could be a great president. We need Gingrich's brains and political skill on the ticket and in the administration.

I was almost going to post what if it's Romney-Palin? Of course I doubt he'd choose her and she doesn't seem a fan of his...plus most people would probably say "still no, unless the ticket were reversed in order".

Even if Palin was on the ticket, which she is way too smart to do, the answer is NO!

If it comes down to it I'll write in Ronald W. Reagan - his mouldering corpse could do a better job of running the nation than any of the other candidates.

“Why would Gingrich want to become toady to a liberal?”

Because Newt has a $4.5 million campaign debt that he would like to have Mittens help him pay off? Do I get a prize?

A Romney/Fill In The Blank ticket would be at least slightly better...and perhaps even *noticeably* better than an Osama Obama/Christ Almighty Himself ticket. Not that Osama would ever agree to run with such a racist/bigogt/homophobe.

To be fair, though, it IS pretty hard to find a real reason to support Willard Romney the open socialist. Party-line Republicans keep up the drumbeat because they’re afraid to step outside their bubble and consider fighting for actual change.

Telling people to vote for Romney because of his VP is like trying to get someone to buy a totaled car because you put a new air freshener in it.

If all you've got is "Vote for Romney! Vote for Romney! If you don't you're voting for Obama!", then you've lost the argument, especially here on FreeRepublic.

If true that would make Osama Obama & Friends so giddy they'd probably celebrate by firing up another crack pipe.

Let’s face it. ALMOST any ticket would be acceptable to me if it meant defeating Obama.

Much as I would REALLY like to see Gingrich there, I can’t imagine Romney wanting him there.

Romney will not pick a conservative for his VP. He’ll pick another mushy moderate and he’ll argue that he wants a better matched ticket than McCain-Palin was.

If I had a medical emergency, was unconscious, and needed my airway to be opened mechanically, I would “accept” EMS forcing a breathing tube down my throat, because it would be better than the alternative, and anyway, I’d have no choice.

Ditto Romney being shoved down my throat. The son of a bitch makes me more than uncomfortable, but I have no choice and he is probably better than the alternative.

That’s about how I feel.

Again, I am dismayed with the winner of the primary elections. Again, I wonder how the winner got to be so. That said, ANYONE in my estimation will be light years better than who we have in office now. The question isn’t if Romney can beat Obama... the fact of the matter is, Romney HAS to beat Obama.

No. Romney is not acceptable. Romney signed an assault weapons ban, inaugurated gay marriage, and Romneycare. These actions belie any words that he would say, or his supporters would say. The excuse that he did these things out of political expediency indicates that he is a man of no principles. Romney is not a clear alternative to Obama, and if nominated that is a clear sign that the GOP is willing to accept socialism as the future of the US. If I vote for Romney that’s what I’m endorsing, and I am not doing it. In May I’m going to polls, and I’m going to vote for Newt, Santorum, or even Ron Paul, but not Romney. In the fall, I’ve got some people downticket I am going to support- conservative Republicans, naturally. But Romney, no.

No ticket with Romney in the first or second slot would get my vote. If we cannot have an honest conservative ticket, a dishonest liberal one is better. Please note the resurgence of conservative activism in the country under Obama. Carter led us to Reagan. December 7th 1941 led us to economic recovery. We need the pruning to grow.

That’s right. I think the GOP wants to destroy the TEA party, and this is their vehicle. Only a successful 3rd party bid that destroys the GOP will turn things around.

Sadly, we conservatives have two enemies to defeat; the RATS and the GOP.

A PALIN/WEST TICKET is a great choice - with Newt in a prominent Cabinet position.

West could be learning the 'ropes' for the future & we need to start building a strong Conservative back-up crew for the future.

The current GOP as it is now is turning Conservatives off & there may come a time that we will have to form our own Conservative party or be slaves to the GOP/RAT parties forever.

>> But many evangelical Christians will vote 3rd party rather than vote Romney <<

Sure, but probably fewer than you think, at least in the eleven “swing” states.

Now if we think about a state-by-state breakdown, I suggest that the big anti-Mormon bloc on the conservative side is in states like SC, GA, AL, MS, LA, TX, OK, KS, WV, etc. But the GOP is bound to carry these states ANYWAY, so they don’t need to enter the analytical picture.

In the meantime, the BIGGEST group of anti-Mormon voters is not among conservative Christians. No, it’s clearly on the left side of the political spectrum, because (among other things) the liberals and “progressives” aren’t going to forget about the Mormons’ huge anti-homosexual-marriage campaigns in California and other states. But these voters are mostly concentrated in leftwing places that the GOP can’t carry under any circumstances — NY, IL, MA, VT, CA, OR, WA, etc. So again, here we have a group of states that don’t need to enter the analytical picture.

On the other hand, Christian evangelical anti-Mormons might or might not be an important factor in critical swing states like VA, FL, OH, WI and PA. Win those states and Romney wins the election. So that’s where the surveys and the polls and the analytical gurus need to be looking for anti-Mormon trends among evangelicals.

Assuming Romney is the noiminee, the Socialist tratiors within the Republican party have already given the White House to the radical, left-wing, socialist, gun-grabbing, pro-homosexual agenda, pro-abortion, pro-socialized medicine, anti-Christian, pro-illegal wing of our country. Obama vs. Romney will not decide whether or not an anti-American, Anti-Christian Socialist is POTUS, only WHICH anti-American, Anti-Christian Socialist is.

At least Obama will ruin our nation in the name of Liberalism and the Democrat party. Romney would do it in the name of “Conservatism” and the Republican party. A Romney presidency could be the death of Conservatism, and at the very least would severely damage its reputation for decades.

Besides that, I’d feel like a racist if I voted for Mitt over Barry, as they stand for the same things and have very similar records.

For teh vast majority of us, it is NOT primarily a MORMON thing. It is beneath any freeper to make such an insinuation. I'm a Catholic. For me, voting Romney for president is about as bad as voting Nancy Pelosi for president, except that it wouldn't taint my party.
