D.C. Dem to Introduce Bill to Change Eating Habits in ‘Workplace and Community Settings’

The representative for a district with higher-than-average rates of obesity-related conditions will return from recess a week from Monday to reintroduce her Lifelong Improvements in Food and Exercise (LIFE) Act.

D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D) will say on the House floor, according to prepared remarks, that her bill is intended to tackle a health problem “that cannot be remedied through the health care system alone.”

The LIFE Act would give the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention $25 million “for a coordinated national effort to reverse increasingly sedentary lifestyles and diets that are high in fat and sugar.”

That would be allocated to “train health professionals to recognize the signs of obesity early and to educate people concerning healthy lifestyles, such as proper nutrition and regular exercise; conduct public education campaigns about how to recognize and address overweight and obesity; and develop intervention strategies to be used in everyday life, such as in the workplace and in community settings.”

“The legislation is the minimum necessary to address our most important health care crisis,” Norton will say.

The bill had no co-sponsors in the 111th Congress and died in a health subcommittee. The renewed effort comes after a “60 Minutes” report this past weekend calling sugar a toxin and calls from some health officials to tax and regulate sugar like tobacco.

“I urge my colleagues to join me in support of this important legislation to mobilize the country now, before entirely preventable health conditions, which often begin in childhood, overwhelm the nation’s health care system,” Norton will say.

This has everything to do with Obamacare.

This has everything to do with stealing $25 million from the taxpayers and stuffing it into the pockets of their cronies at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

"...Seems we’re getting closer all the time to having to meet in the town square in our Mao suits for morning calisthenics and public show of adoration for Dear Leader..."

Or, in front of our telescreen that we can't turn off...well, most of us,anyway. This POS and her liberal allies would certainly have THAT privilege.

Because they think the "Nazis" will exert their control on someone ELSE, and that they will be the beneficiaries of that control.

Like I always say, Liberals love their dictators, but they are always the most surprised whey they are dragged away screaming: "But...I'm on YOUR side! I am one of YOU! I support you! Why are you doing this?"

Yup, this is exactly how they went after smokers, and now fat people better watch out because YOU are the new smokers.

I have seen so much of this kind of thing in the last few days.

Its coming.. the food police WILL control what you eat unless we nip this in the bud now.

Sure, shes a nobody delegate, and the idea is laughable, thats what us smokers thought when they proposed a ban on smoking in bars and nightclubs in the 1980s.

Rationing treatments and medications
Abortion
Slashing care for those past 65

But...the Democrat Culture of Death wants others to actually live and thrive?

Anyone know the percentage of working people who take no lunches at all anymore and rarely have time for going to the loo during the workday of 0bamination?

When I returned, I tried to tell people what I experienced and they all thought I was making things up. I decided I would keep it to myself, until this administration when I see things becoming more and more like it was there under the communists.

Still no one believes what they see in front of them every day.

They control our food, or clothing, our language, they encroach upon our religious practices, they don’t want us to read things, they talk about government in the sunshine while making citizens sue to disclose basic public information, and the list goes on and on.

Orwell saw the future, but what we are now realizing is that he was not looking ahead nearly so far as we all hoped.

No argument about freedom is heard, when there is a social program at stake, and there are no alternatives to our problems except the way of the hive. So many do not know what freedoms they are losing, and if they do, they don’t mind.

I mind. I care. I object.

I tend to listen to people like you. Some of the people who are most agitated about what they see happening are people who REALLY lived under tyranny, and know what it is all about.

We are spoiled, no doubt. We have had it good for a long, long time. We should listen to people like you.

Lachlan, this government would simply treat whatever you say as a set of instructions.

I don’t want to leave the wrong impression here. I did not spend a great deal of time there as it was when I was going to school. I’m not a native of the soviet union or anything like that. But I was there long enough to see things, and to be educated by the then Soviets.

I would love to tell stories that happened, and to reveal the paranoia that we observed, as well as the unfolding of events that made the paranoia justified.

What gives me hope is that even under the repressive Soviet regime, the people were resilient and coped in the most amazing ways. What most impressed me was the black market in the economy, which functioned very much like a free market elsewhere, but which was to be hidden.

People need to go back and start reading why we undertook a revolution. There was an honest understanding by everyone what freedom was.

We are so jaded, that we would not recognize the cages we cannot leave.

No they don’t. They’ll require some diet that limits protein and pours on the carbohydrate laden pastas and bread. They want to reduce the percentage of fat in food, so wave goodbye to meat.

I’m calling my congresscritter and suggesting politely he vote no on Ms Norton’s idiotic bill.

“I can see the left going to food rationing where everyone would be allowed a certain allotment of certain foods and a coupon system to buy the foods.”

It’s called food stamps.

Food stamps and ration tickets are two different things.

I think the left would love for everybody to have ration tickets.

Nope, didn’t see this one coming. I didn’t even predict it on FR either and I must have failed to point it out to the nanny state loving FReepers that celebrated the battle advances against tobacco.

Oh wait....
