The first Mama Grizzly reference came in the first minute or two of former AK Gov. Sarah Palins stint guest hosting NBCs Today show. In the opening segment, a very energetic Palin noted New Yorks warm weather (by comparison to Alaska, where it was 25 degrees this morning, about 20 degrees cooler than NYC), Ann Curry scoffed at the idea that it was warm and thats when Palin whipped out the Mama Grizzly. Alaskans are just made of sterner stuff than hardened New York network hosts, it seems: Curry was bundled up and visibly reacting to the mild weather. Matt Lauer wasted no time getting little digs and jibes in at his guest co-host, but I was struck by the appearances of the whole thing. Palin occupied screen right and looked great in a modest dark suit, and she appeared to be within an inch of Lauers height. She fit right in despite the evident hostility of Lauer and Curry, weatherman Al Roker seeming to be the friendliest of Todays permanent crew. She exuded the confidence of someone who has hosted big shows for decades, not the typical nervousness of a one-time guest host going behind enemy lines in the lamestream media.
Within about 15 minutes, Lauers attitude seemed to change.

Two simple words:
Class. Act.
I watched the entire hour and I thought the team was extremely nice to her. And she was very funny and pleasant - caught reading a bunch of newspapers and taking over Matt’s office without his permission.
The only problem was that she kept her physical distance from the group when they were standing around. Ann Curry kept drawing her in by the arm. I wonder why? She did that with Donald Trump. Do Alaskans like their space or do we NYers smell bad?!
She was also great with Torie Spelling. Everyone seemed charmed by the Divine Sarah.
Can’t help thinking of the time that Rush said CBS tried to co-opt him by offering the guest spot on that sitcom with Markie Post.
She did very well.
It shows that they know in their icy hearts who the American people like and admire!
Yes.
And it shows that she is fearless and well intentioned...she doesn’t hate, she wants to help people wake up and will do anything to that end...
FYI
Link won’t connect.
Doesn’t the mere fact that she was offered her position obliterate the idea that they really believe her to be an airhead?
Sarah will beat them in the end...
Night Court?
I do remember Rush doing a guest spot on the Drew Carey show once.
“do we NYers smell bad?!”
No, you stink.
I was away for vacation for 8 days, and I’m still catching up with all the news of the past week or so. How did this come to pass that Sarah Palin ends up guest hosting the Today show at the Nothing but Barack Channel? I’m sure Sarah will succeed at whatever she does (and of course I’m rooting for her), but.... NBC??
Lauer observed Palin skillfully using an 18" serrated knife with blood groove to trip a few loose clothing threads on the cameraman.
trip = trim (Grrrrr)
And pretty much every FReeper KNEW IT!

She fit right in despite the evident hostility of Lauer and Curry, weatherman Al Roker seeming to be the friendliest of Todays permanent crew. She exuded the confidence of someone who has hosted big shows for decades, not the typical nervousness of a one-time guest host going behind enemy lines in the lamestream media."
"Within about 15 minutes, Lauers attitude seemed to change. Palin joined Lauer and three other Today regulars, Star Jones, Dr. Nancy Snyderman and Donny Deutsch for a round of pop culture gab. Palin lauded Oprah Winfrey for living the American dream in establishing her OWN network, which is struggling to attract an audience on cable. Palin also defended Jessica Simpson, whose pregnancy-related weight gain has generated tabloid and online derision. Jones found herself alone criticizing Simpson for putting herself on magazine covers, while Palin and Snyderman defended her. Snyderman did offer that Simpson has gained too much weight, and should work to lose it as soon as possible after her child is born. Deutsch contributed little beyond snide one-liners and politically correct hostility toward Palin. He tried putting Palin on the spot about the negativity in politics, but Palin deftly turned the jab around to zap Bill Maher. Deutsch, who hosts his own poorly watched cable show, quickly surrendered. Lauer found himself agreeing with Palin more often than not and seemed to warm up to her, but caught himself and offered her a condescending Good job! toward the end of the segment."
"Palins positive attitude must be made of titanium. She is unsinkable and finds a way to say something worthwhile amid the nothingness that is morning TV. The next segment featured Palin and Ann Curry two-hosting actress and author Tori Spelling. The segment consisted of typical Today fluff, a stars book about parenting or some such along with party snack suggestions. Palin, though, turned the vapid segment into a brief salute to motherhood, congratulating Spelling for her growing family (she is pregnant with her and her husbands fourth) and for her success in media. Spelling seemed to be genuinely touched by Palins praise."
"The governors next appearance came in another segment about parenting, this one centering on dealing with teenage daughters. The two guests were authors of parenting books, and in typical network booking tactics, one of the two was also a gorgeous blond. But Palin took over the segment after a couple of typically bland rounds of questions from Curry, whose lack of personality has long left me wondering how she ended up owning such prime media real estate as the Today set. Palins experience raising kids allowed her to relate immediately to both authors. Curry spent much of the segment on the fringe of the conversation, and had to stop the ongoing conversation to get to the next network break."
"All in all, Palin put in a more than solid performance. She never seemed to be on the defensive, never seemed put out by any of the subtle and overt hostility around her, and was never shy about advancing conservatives and conservatism. During the segment on Oprahs flailing network, for instance, while lauding Winfreys entrepreneurial spirit and her honesty in admitting mistakes, Palin said that she hoped the network would succeed and that Winfrey would get some conservative shows on. Deutsch lamely jumped in and said Oprah should hire liberals, but no one on the set even paid attention to him. With good reason, too, since Deutschs own show is little watched, and Winfrey has already tried liberals like Rosie ODonnell, and has already failed with them. Going to the middle or right would at least be a creative choice for Winfrey to consider. Palins advice was thus an advancement of conservatism and practical advice for Winfrey to turn her flailing network around. One only needs to look at the failure of Air America, the struggles of leftward tilting MSNBC, the dominance of Fox News Channel and conservatives in talk radio to see that Palin knows what shes talking about, purely from a programming perspective."
"Palin was quick witted, informed, personable, and beautiful guest hosting Today. She looked like she belonged there and brought a different energy to the show. Once she was gone, Today quickly returned to its blandly liberal self. Whoever came up with the idea of having her guest host deserves credit for thinking creatively and boldly to bring her in. It was a good show all around."
"Update: When I mention the other hosts condescending hostility toward Palin, this is what Im talking about. Lauer asks Palin if Romney should choose a running mate with more experience than she had. When she was chosen in 2008, Sarah Palin was actually more experienced as a government executive than Barack Obama, Joe Biden and John McCain." [END]
not Night Court
Some Linda and Harry Bloodworth-Thomason production on CBS that lasted all of 13 weeks
Maybe it’s just traffic.
Hearts Afire. It lasted for three years-ish. I looked it up.
http://pjmedia.com/ up now from link I went to Twitter then in... https://twitter.com/#!/PJMedia_com as I was having the same problem Thanks
Link from FR now works.
It's called taking the fight to the enemy. Yesterday, I heard one of the talk radio guys make the excellent point that Conservatives need to get on these shows and fight back publicly to show where they stand on the issues, and not yield the entire MSM battlefield to the Rats. Newt knows this and has done well with his appearances for the most part, and Palin knows it too.
Because she's not a hypocrite?
-—Within about 15 minutes, Lauers attitude seemed to change.-—
This would have happened universally IF SHE RAN!
Sigh.
I can’t for the life of me understand why Sarah would indulge the indecent, repugnant, disgusting NBC Company.
NBC is the company that employs Al Sharpton, Chris Matthews, and formerly Keith Olbermann.
NBC is the absolute worst of all of the networks, and that is saying something.
I watched. She did fine. She is very likable. But she should have told NBC to crap in their hats.
She did however, gain access to and show her self to millions of impressionable viewers whose only prior source of info was that same reviled NBC.
So, who gained and who lost?
To catch you,up, ABC's Good Morining America is trying to make a big splash this week with Katie Couric as host, so NBC countered in the ratings game by putting on Sarah on the TODAY show. It'll be fun to see who drew the bigger numbers.
Country people have a different idea of “personal space” than city people. Especially big city people.
This goes contrary to things like the desire to get everyone into a nice group for the camera shot.
Sarah Palin = Josies Wales.....every time she goes head to head with her enemies I think to myself :”Whooped em’ again, didn’t we Josie....”
Governor Palin was terrific...even after Curry called her MS Palin, which to me seemed a deliberate affront. She was gracious, confident and generous with her praise for the guests. Most definitely a class act
Wonder what helped them in the formulation of their opinions?
Further, what can one do to positively affect change?
do we NYers smell bad?! ... No, you stink.”
I got a good laugh out of that exchange!
Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies even closer.
With all the cheap shots that have been thrown at Palin she has not given up, folded her tent and gone away.
Whom did she endorse?

M*O*N*E*Y.
There is no doubt our Sarah should be our candidate for President. This election, with pretty boy Romney will be just like the last....a weak candidate with most likely a strong VP pick, and there are many. I am hoping against all odds that it goes to the convention and Sarah comes out on top...wouldn’t that be a wonderment?? It would make liberal heads explode!! WHOOPDEDOO!!
Oh, Yes!Yes! Palin and Newt, dream team IMHO
Josey Wales added to list.
This is an ongoing list of historical, popular, and Biblical people, as well as fictional characters and animals that Sarah Palin has been compared to on FR:
I can’t for the life of me understand why so many on FR seem to think the best way to combat liberal BS is by burying our heads in the sand.
She took the fight to them. She did well; it was a good call.
Some of those are cool, but I take offense to Muhammad Ali: he was an arrogant piece of garbage who hated America.
Whom....Perhaps NBC?
Considering the bad press over their audio tape altering of Zimmerman 911 call on "Today Show" for their ham-handed editing, photo choice etc ....all now Under Internal investigation.
They Need her for ratings in these "damage control" times, she does not need them. Probably why everyone pretty much on their best behavior, but not perfectly so [need one heavy] not to raise question...whassup with the Palin love fest??
NBC announcements: Meredith Viera will return to the Today Show for the 2weeks in OG London to host the morning portion along with Lauer.
C’mon Miss Marmelstein, it isn’t that. New Yorkers aren’t the touchy-feely type(subway gropers excluded). You know New Yorkers show politeness buy rushing so the new Yorker behind them can rush to where ever it is they’re rushing to!
Romney cheerleaders. We’re so screwed.
I watched up to the Tori Spelling segment. I thought she handled herself well, but I will tell you who else impressed me, and that was Dr. Nancy Snyderman. Since I don’t watch the Today show, I have no knowledge on the doctor, but she included Sarah with eye contact, turning her head in Sarah’s direction to engage her or to listen to her answers and just generally being gracious and classy. Star Jones looked like she had an attitude the whole time...I know, quite a departure from her usual demeanor.
Those are all serious comparisons by other FReepers. I made none of them up. :)
It is a logical continuation of the branding, but, NBC! When will we see "Sarah and the Rev" - the new reality sitcom starring Palin and Sharpton?
I thought that we were fighting for our national life and that Palin was leading the charge. How does the Palin - Spelling thing contribute?
I do have to admit though that it (the Palin - Spelling match-up - two reality TV "stars") was probably a good fit.
