Erik Wemple (The Washington Post) reports:
NBC told this blog today that it would investigate its handling of a piece on the Today show that ham-handedly abridged the conversation between George Zimmerman and a dispatcher in the moments before the death of Trayvon Martin. A statement from NBC:
We have launched an internal investigation into the editorial process surrounding this particular story.
Heres what appears to be the Today shows version of what Zimmerman said:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like hes up to no good. He looks black.
Heres what appears to be the actual 911 transcript:
Zimmerman: This guy looks like hes up to no good. Or hes on drugs or something. Its raining and hes just walking around, looking about.
Dispatcher: OK, and this guy is he black, white or Hispanic?
Zimmerman: He looks black.
Unless theres something Im missing here, the editing seems extremely improper (high editorial malpractice, in The Washington Post bloggers words). I say this not to opine on the merits of any possible criminal case against Zimmerman; this particular point isnt about him, but about NBC.
Time to advocate for an end to a free press!
They keep advocating we end capitalism, individual freedom and freedom of religion -— it’s time they are put under the same microscope.
In other news, the DOJ is still busy with an internal investigation of the gun running scandel, Fast and Furious.
I love internal investigations. They give the appearance of doing something.
...notice how many folks at NBC have been suspended and/or fired ????
They will investigate meaning they will look under a table and say “Nope, couldn’t find anything”
Even our local station KVUE (Austin, TX) is running similar horse hockey and is still showing the outdated pictures of the innocent widdle angel and the mean white hispanic killer in orange jail garb.
That kind of editing didn’t result from “hamhandedness”, it was deliberate.
Eh, they are going to look into it and get to the bottom of it.... SURE THEY ARE. I would like to make and market a T-shirt of Zimmerman at 12 years old and put “NBC SUX” on the shirt.

It’s the MSM.
Nothing will happen.
Nothing to see here, move along, move along.
I’m hoping someone will take care of them during CW-II.
NBC apparently jumped on the opportunity to misreport the facts for the purpose creating a racial incident that never existed in reality. This could have cost Zimmerman his life as the first of many, had the possible riots occurred.
Exactly. It was intentional and the editors were probably sitting around with smirks on their faces making comments about us knuckleheads.
Are you being sarcastic? If so, you forgot your sarc notice. (I'm asking because some people here on FR of late might make a statement like that in all seriousness!)
I think it was a legitimate question by the dispatcher...When the police pesponds to a 911 call, they need any and all information of what to look for...including race, height, weight, gender, clothing etc.....
Is that the new liberal elite term for 'lying'?
My bad.
NBC News is supposedly investigating the editing of the video that shows the back of Zimmerman’s head.
It seems that NBC News has some serious internal problems — they are again caught with their credibility down around their ankles.
I think it was a legitimate question by the dispatcher...

If you can believe the original “facts” served up approx 2 weeks after the incident, when Z mentioned the guy was black I would venture to say that was because blacks had been accused of break ins earlier and - as reported - Z was probably on a first name basis with the various 911 people in the area - which IMNSHO - generated the “we don’t need you doing that (sic)” comment, much like if you were to call me and say your garage door is open and I am going to close it and I tell you “no thanks, I will be there in a minute”.
Of course common sense took a leave of absence long ago, especially in this case.
I’m sure it just happened by accident and was a harmless mistake. /sarc
