Gingrich: I Can Support Santorum, Talk of Shared Ticket to Stop Romney

There is growing talk that if former House Speaker Newt Gingrich drops out of the race and "suspends" his campaign, he may throw his support behind Rick Santorum in an effort to deny Mitt Romney the GOP nomination.

And, for the moment, Gingrich is not yielding to the slew of establishment endorsements for Mitt Romney.

Gingrich told CBS News' "Face the Nation" Sunday that Romney has no lock on the nomination and the math doesn't show him getting the 1,144 delegates easily to clinch the nomination.

A leading Gingrich campaign official also suggested this weekend that their camp may work with Santorum to stop Romney from getting the nomination as the former House Speaker made clear he could back either Santorum or Romney if they were to win the nomination.

"If Rick Santorum becomes the nominee, I'll help him," Gingrich said. "We are all committed to defeating Barak Obama. We think his re-election would be a disaster for the country."

I've been saying that since the first debate.

Gingrich-Santorum

or

Santorum-Gingrich

I agree with you, but, I'd like to see them join forces, not to run on the GOP Ticket in the Fall, but, just to keep RINO-Rom from getting the 1144 Delegates BEFORE the Convention. Then we could have an open Convention and anyone could win; Paul Ryan might even leave Tampa as the Nominee.

You better hope it’s not too little to late. Romney will re-elect Dear Reader. And your darling Rick, is basically stupid and self serving.

-> Who cares which way it is (especially if Newt V.P were the ideas guy for the administration?). They’d be more like partners than boss/employee.

It would be like putting the student in lead while the professor has to sit on his hands. I can’t see Speaker Gingrich having to curb his bold ideas. It would be silly since Rick makes more gaffes-the GZ for one was big.

According to reports on Fox Sunday, Romney is crashing. He now loses in one-on-one polls against Obama in FL, OH, and PA (?). His unfavorable rating is about 50%. He would lose to Obama if election was today. He is behind Obama in two new polls by double digits. AND THIS WAS ON FOX NEWS! HANG TOUGH NEWT!

I friggin’ care!!! Newt needs to be at the top of the Ticket to Debate Obama or there won’t be a new administration needing ideas. Romney and Ron “Kook-Daddy” Paul made mince meat out of Santorum in the last Debate. We need to put Newt up against Obama. Let Rick debate Biden. (Wow; that would be an intellectual match up of “geniuses” for the record books.)

I heard a political professor today here in Florida to say, that Mitt Romney needs more time to re introduce himself to the base. They fear he is losing more ground even though he could pick up more states this week; voters are saying the 2 top choices; they prefer someone else. I think some of Rick’s voters are nothing but stop Romney (not a firm belief in Santorum). I think Newt should stay in no matter what.

Is Romney a republican traitor?..

Nope. He is a Democrat infiltrator.

Self serving.... maybe, but, I wouldn’t call Rick stupid; seriously. I’d say he is very naive and simple. He says stupid things that make people scratch their heads and say: “Does this dude know that this is the 21st Century and this is NOT the ‘Leave It To Beaver’ America of the 50’s?” Poor Rick; so out of touch with the real world.

What do the polls say about Obama v. Newt? Obama v. Santorum?

I think we could use a little “leave it to beaver 1950’s America” back, we certainly do not need more 60’s and post sexual revolution-which has devestated the USA.

Agreed in the sense he doesn’t have a low IQ.

Those questions were either not in the poll or not reported.

Bring that on! That is brilliant! Combining delegates would put them within 160 delegates of Romney...

People might actually coalesce around a TEAM that takes Romney out.

I would! We need a team about now.

Give it up. The life of the 50’s will never come back. We’re marching toward Armageddon. Read the Bible... “In the last days, perilous times shall come.....” (2 Tim. 3:1)

Well, Bush was the light-weight and Cheney had the gravitas and they got elected twice. I prefer Newt but I think Santorum would be miles above Romney. Let’s hope the good people in Wisconsin unite behind Rick and defeat Mit on Tuesday.

You’re right! I hope I’m wrong. The two should have made friends long ago to keep Wrongney from making it this far.
