Gingrich: I Can Support Santorum, Talk of Shared Ticket to Stop Romney

There is growing talk that if former House Speaker Newt Gingrich drops out of the race and "suspends" his campaign, he may throw his support behind Rick Santorum in an effort to deny Mitt Romney the GOP nomination.

And, for the moment, Gingrich is not yielding to the slew of establishment endorsements for Mitt Romney.

Gingrich told CBS News' "Face the Nation" Sunday that Romney has no lock on the nomination and the math doesn't show him getting the 1,144 delegates easily to clinch the nomination.

A leading Gingrich campaign official also suggested this weekend that their camp may work with Santorum to stop Romney from getting the nomination as the former House Speaker made clear he could back either Santorum or Romney if they were to win the nomination.

"If Rick Santorum becomes the nominee, I'll help him," Gingrich said. "We are all committed to defeating Barak Obama. We think his re-election would be a disaster for the country."

Good idea Freepers? I think so, they should have teemed up long ago (would have made stopping Romney even easier). One should be President, and one should be V.P. and I really don't care which one, either would be better than Obama and much better than Romney.

I’ll take a Santorum/Gingrich ticket all day long. Both would absolutely destroy Omoron and Boredom Biden in debates. Mitt would be just a nice guy....

That would be interesting. But a lot of Newt-backing Freepers burned that bridge a long time ago.

At the very least Mitt is a Democrat in Republican clothing. I doubt if he ever WAS a Republican other than for getting nominated to political offices.

Never understood the hatred between the two camp’s supporters. I like them both for different reasons but they are both Conservatives.

>"Is Romney a republican traitor?.."

Mitts ties to conservatism, and the R party, by Mitt himself.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Newt as VP at all. I think he’d do a good job. However, the issue I have is that I don’t think whoever the nominee is, whether it be Romney, Santorum, or Gingrich, I don’t think one of them should pick one of the other for VP. There have been too many negative attacks all around. If Romney were to pick Santorum, for example, the Dems would pull out his attack ads and comments and ask why he picked someone for VP he once criticized heavily and vice versa. I think that could complicate things, and I think we’d be better off if whoever the nominee is goes outside of the crop of remaining candidates and picks a fresh face.

....there is a "possibility of consolidating Santorum and Gingrich delegates at the Republican National Convention in order to overcome Romney’s delegate math."

AT THE CONVENTION MY A**. This needs to be done NOW....we have no assurance Romney won't get the 1,144 Delegates before the Convention. People are already growing weary and throwing in the towel for RINO-Rom. A Gingrich/Santorum coalition could revive the possibility of "stopping Romney" from reaching the magic number of 1,144. They need to combine forces NOW.....RIGHT NOW!!!

Newt Gingrich should be the nominee; not the liberal

democrat Romney. Romney is worse than McCain. There is no

place for conservatives (the insiders seen to that)

No, no; we don’t need a Santorum/Gingrich Ticket. We need a Gringrich/Santorum Ticket. Newt is the one who needs to debate Obama, not Rick. Newt will cream Obozo in a Debate.... Rick... ummmm...... nah; won’t happen.

You’re full of bull shit.

Read any posting by Steelfish describing Newt Gingrich. It was Santorum who, in Florida, spewed all over Gingrich without political cause. The amount of hatred generated by Satorum his follower towards Gingrich is enormous.

And Geron, there is a huge difference between quoting sources in Pennsylvania who once supported and no longer will support, Santorum, and Steelfish’s Democratic Party talking point smears against Gingrich from years gone by.

Who cares which way it is (especially if Newt V.P were the ideas guy for the administration?). They’d be more like partners than boss/employee.
