Spike Lee ought to IMMEDIATELY contact this couple, BUY THEIR HOME at whatever is a reasonable amount that will allow them to move to a comparable home, APOLOGIZE publicly and let everyone know how wrong he was. He may discover he then needs to bulldoze it since it may not be salable, but that decision is able to wait.
