Some Komen Races Miss Their Goals
Wall Street Journal ^ | 6/26/2012 | AMY DOCKSER MARCUS AND MELANIE GRAYCE WEST

The breast-cancer charity Susan G. Komen for the Cure continues to face fallout from its Planned Parenthood controversy, as some affiliates report declines in fundraising and attendance at the group's signature races and a series of high-level executives have departed.

Eric Brinker, a businessman and son of Komen's founder, has stepped down from the charity's board of directors, Komen said. Last week, the head of Komen's Greater New York City affiliate said she would step down.

The nonprofit's decision to stop funding breast-cancer screening and education at Planned Parenthood clinics set off a controversy last month.

Pity.....while I have not been personally touched by the issue of breast cancer, nor any of my family or close friends, it is a worthwhile cause. But prior to the Planned Parenthood debacle, I had become jaded with the “cause du jour” tone of the charity. I’ve been throwing my support more towards the red dress movement, and raising awareness of cardiac care for women.

Komen royally screwed themselves. They did the seemingly impossible and managed to piss off both the radical feminists and the conservative right. Now they are in a situation where the radical feminists are boycotting because they cut of funding to planned parenthood and the conservative right is boycotting because they restored the funding.

Wonder if family registration will return next year after this year’s abysmal failure for fundraising? Because last year, a family could register, and all the family members could fundraise, but this year, they wanted a form and a fee for each and every person... Family of four last year: $95. This year: $120, plus 3 more pieces of paper.

Pity?

The money isn’t going to research, its going to Planned Parenthood, a billion-dollar corporation. Is that what “charity” is for?

One major problem with Komen is that it only includes the kill cancer at all costs old school oncology.

There is evidence that actually keeping your immune system and feeding and designing a healthy lifestyle for the patient can give them more life at better quality.

Old school oncology is often an attempt to cure a hangnail by chopping off the finger.

When some patients are fed only nourishing food and large amounts of deficient hormones, vitamins, etc, they stay well, no sickness, loss of strength, hair, or life, but instead live a full, long life sometimes with a present tumor or even losing it. But even with the breast cancer tumor being present, the patients live a great life, something like people with HIV do. Since this is happening more and more, these moneybags foundations should at least include more support for healthful treatment research rather than focusing only on the pitiable bald chemo patients. Sometimes it reminds me, sadly, of the beggars in India deliberately maiming themselves so they make more money.

And my heart goes out to all the patients who endure chemo. I think it’s barbaric to kill off the immune system that Gd intended to keep us healthy with.

Interesting..........knowing little to nothing about cancer and its treatment, I find your comments fascinating. I heard last week that Steve Jobs tried to cure himself with diet and vitamins and herbs, knowledge he gained by doing his own research, and was actually making some progress when the cancer overtook him. And that’s just a guy surfing the internet. We hear all the time about how we lower our health risks by just not drinking, smoking, by eating right, exercising, getting sun, and getting a decent amount of rest, and lowering stress. Which just proves my point that for the most part, we humans were made with a powerful ability to heal ourselves, which we seldom give credit to.

I’ve done the 60 mile in three days Komen two times. The PP issue bothered me but I wore and passed out pink precious feet.

This year I’m walking in the Avon walk. There are several during the year but I’m doing the one in Charlotte NC in October. Any freepers with bad stuff about Avon let me know. I like the fact that they post on their website where their money goes. I waded into that but couldn’t find PP anywhere. Plus its only two days and half the money to raise. Anyone wanting to donate, freepermail me.

Higher mama’s boy rankers push this crap on soldiers in garrisons. It’s a disgusting federally sponsored racket. Communist try to highjack and insert themselves as to be defended by the Army in the future. It’s so unconstitutional. Our nation is termite infestated.

I hate to say it but Komen shoudl have taken a page from the “progressive” playbook and gradually cut off funding for unPlanned unParenthood over several years. The reason the antithetical agenda of the left has become so mainstream is because they do things so gradually the frog doesn;t realize it is being boiled alive.....

We have been boiled to death, need to start lowering the temprature, but not to much to fast of they will revolt in self righeous indignation.

Steve Jobs probably instigated his cancer with the crazy diets he started when he was in college up in Oregon. Fruitarian, macrobiotic, vegetarian with fasting for weeks on end, plus the LSD and other drugs that he took while living on the "apple farm"... not exactly good for your pancreas.

I highly recommend watching the story of Kris Carr, who made a documentary about her investigations into different holistic treatments after being diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cancer. That was in 2006 and she's still around and looking very good. It's called "Crazy Sexy Cancer" (unfortunate title, I know) and she has a blog. If I recall correctly, she found that her tumors grew after doing a macrobiotic vegetarian diet for a few months (which is what Jobs followed). She focuses on detoxifying the body through different means (saunas, for one). But I just saw that she's released a diet book and it is vegetarian, so maybe I'm wrong about that.
