Truebelieverforever, I have never seen so many smarmy, nasty threads before the santorum bashing threads came along a few weeks ago. I guess the mods are fine with it....... so be it. I get on these threads from time to time when I see just plain nuttiness or over the top ridicule. They are always bashing Santorum. It is not vetting; it does nothing to further a disussion or understanding....it merely shuts down one side of the conversation.
IMO, it is below FR standards....but that’s just me.
When I started posting on this forum for Newt, I would post links to his Contract for America 2012, excertps from his writings, outlines of his promised policies on all the major issues confronting America today, titles of his book, his other works. All content, all quality, backed up sometimes by 2 and 3 different links, to allow for people’s desire to read according to length or detail. I posted vids of Newt for those who didn’t like to read.
and what did I get back from Santorum supporters? serial adulterer, open marriage, resigned in disgrace, and every other nasty thing they could come up with. Never any discourse, never any discussion on the merits of the content I had posted. Just like you, crying the victim card, the newt supporters are so nasty and smarmy, and Rick is just perfect.
I am not like the timid Queensbury-rules GOP establishment. I gave it a long heartfelt try, and then just decided to give back as good as I got.
I don’t feel bad about it. I feel like I tried my best, only Santorum supporters aren’t interested in any kind of quality discussion. I even defended rick a couple times, when he was taken to task by Gingrich supporters for taking his dead baby home, and fully taken out of context in one thing he said.
I have grown weary of people like you saying it’s newt supporters who are ugly and nasty and smarmy. Santorum supporters think they have cornered the market on morality because their candidate presents himself as one “called by God”, and because of that anyone who questions Santorum’s superiority as a candidate is questioning the only good man in the race. I don’t subscribe to that.
Now have at me with the usual Sanctimonium superiority, and victimization card. FYI, I don’t think I have lowered the standards on Free Republic, but that’s just me.

No, i didn’t jump on the Rick train because he won a few races. Perry was my guy, and after him, I stayed neutral, pulling for both Newt and Rick. However, I’m also a realist - Newt is done - his ego won’t permit him to acknowledge this fact, however,
Sometimes, the president has to be a team player - otherwise, he’d be a dictator. What screwed up ideas some people have. Most all presidents have advisers, and that’s why they have them- to help make tough decisions.
Newt may be “more intellectual,” but, gosh darn it - obama was supposed to be so smart, and look at us now.
Smart and common sense don’t necessarily go hand-in-hand.
I’m sick of people calling Mr.Santorum, little saint Ricky. How about we coin a few phrases for Newt? You won’t like them should I decide to get into the name calling thing. But, I choose not to at this point. This isn’t a playground, or is it? It seems to be for some on here.
You need to prove that or stop maligning people, and making malicious statements, while playing the above-it-all victim. All your concern about the santorum threads, and lowering the standards at FR, have you ever checked out any of the Newt-bashing threads... even one? because, in my estimation, there have been maybe twice as many as those. And there's no comparison to Santorum supporters when it comes to maligning others. Where's your concern for the ugly things that have been said about Newt and his supporters, and his wife? Vile doesn't even come close to it. This selective outrage is really too much. I used to take it seriously and examine myself in case I was at fault, and there were times I made apologies. But now I see it for what it is..

I am glad you find my feelings and convictions a joke, I accept that. I am from a military family, that has endured their share of sacrifice for this beloved country. I count integrity and honor the gold standard by which men and women should live their lives. You sorely minimized that. I took a whole lot of flak quietly and hurtfully before speaking up for myself against Santorum supporters.
NONE of this is a joke to me. the survival of my country is at stake. I work long hours at my job, and then long hours for Newt, helping and giving everything I can, because I believe in acting on your principles. Glad to know I gave you a chuckle though.
