Republican congressman urges donations to Democrats over women’s issues

A Republican congressman disenchanted with his party's stance on women's issues urged attendees at a rally to give money to Democrats to send a message to the GOP.

"I think these are very precarious times for women, it seems. So many of your rights are under assault," Rep. Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) told a crowd at a rally in Washington, D.C., for the Equal Rights Amendment, according to the Huffington Post. "I'll tell you this: Contribute your money to people who speak out on your behalf, because the other side — my side — has a lot of it. And you need to send your own message. You need to remind people that you vote, you matter, and that they can't succeed without your help."

Hanna, who is pro-choice, went on to encourage women to become more vocal on issues that were important to them. Hanna was the only Republican congressman at the rally.

The Liberals used to cross-nominate liberal Republicans sometimes. Does Working Families do likewise? There are pro-union RINO douchebags in the state they might like.

Anyway, not good. We need a rat to run for that seat!! It would be sickening to see Hanna reelected on the Independence line.

Pete you should have moved there and filed as a democrat!

I don’t think that I’ve ever seen a Republican cross-endorsed by Working Families. You’re right about the Liberal Party, though; they often endorsed RINOs such as Jacob Javits (his retention of the Liberal Party line in the 1980 general helped D’Amato beat Holtzman), Sherry Boehlert (who represented the same area as Hanna and may have been even more pro-abortion than him, if that’s possible) and Bill Green. Likewise, the Conservative Party used to cross-endorse pro-life Democrats from liberal districts, such as Albany’s Michael McNulty and (IIRC) Buffalo’s John LaFalce.

Umm, Richard Hanna is not a female.

In honor of your screen name, here’s a terrific performance of Die Fledermaus, conducted by the incomparable Carlos Kleiber: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqJK_s7I9EY

“I don’t think that I’ve ever seen a Republican cross-endorsed by Working Families.”

I can think of one. Uber-RINO Dede Scozzafava won its endorsements in her state Assembly campaigns. I don’t remember if she won it when she ran for Congress.

Oh, God, really? Well, Scozzafava is a DIABLO, not a RINO, so she doesn’t really count.

got some press in national Review.

the CT special election

“I think people are dissatisfied with the Malloy administration,” Zawistowski told reporters, referring to the liberal agenda of Democratic governor Dannel Malloy. She said the issues that found resonance in her campaign were scaling back gas taxes, reinstating the sales-tax exemption on clothing and over-the-counter, nonprescription medication, as well as ending the $250 annual business-entity tax.

Where are the idiots on this forum that hold to the idea that ANY Republican is better in office than having a Democrat there?

You don’t have to be PURE, but you can’t be a baby-slaughtering pinko either.
