Santorum Suggests Obama Preferable to "Etch-A-Sketch" Romney.

Rick Santorum's latest attempt to use a Mitt Romney aide's "Etch-A-Sketch" remark against the Republican front-runner instead gave his rival a chance to fire back on Thursday, after Santorum seemed to say he'd rather see President Obama reelected than send Romney to the White House.

Speaking at an event in Texas, Santorum again made the case that Romney spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom's comments Wednesday on CNN about a "reset" of the campaign if Romney clinched the nomination showed the former Massachusetts governor's efforts to appeal to conservatives were insincere.

"You win by giving people the opportunity to see a different vision for our country, not someone who's just going to be a little different than the person in there," Santorum told a crowd in San Antonio, according to NBC News. "If you're going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk with what may be the Etch-A-Sketch candidate of the future."

There are so many hypocrites on this thread.

People here are ripping Santorum for saying the same thing that most freepers say.

It’s ridiculous.

a second Obama term will unite Conservatives like never before. United, he can never break us

Fool. If a first obama term didn't "unite us", which it obviously didn't, then a second obama term will just be the coup de grace for America. We're already broken, in case you haven't noticed.

The only reason to vote Romney is to sit and watch this time Democrates go on a Romney Derangement Syndrome fit and see the GOP RINOs get finished by their muslims.

The reason to vote Obama would be to completely wash out the RINO traitors from Congress and get a complete reboot for a wheel reinvention in America and the world, watching the great sorrow and wrath of God not seen since Pharoh’s feelings that all will be fine, that it was just a “fluke”.

Just watching them competing, Bernanke, Obama, Pelosi etc... with lawyers such as Fluke into double or triple fisting to the orgy of death is interesting stuck on stupid.

Frankly, the LDS church NEEDS Romney to be POTUS to stem the tide of people leaving and taking their money with them. They need the money to build more malls. . . . .

When I was a little boy about 3 or 4 years old my father asked me if I did something. I told him no, I lied, I did it and he knew I did it. Dads always seem to know that kind of stuff when you are little. Anyway, my father told me that telling a lie was a really stupid thing. He said that no matter how many times I told the truth when someone caught me lying they would always think of me as a liar.

The Mormon church is baptizing a quarter million new members a year and bring more that that in as children. That add up to about 5% growth a year. There may be people leaving the Mormons but there are a lot more joining.

“If Romney or Rick loses to Obama via the Gingrich-or-else-crowd, the blood of our dead USA will be on their hands.”

I hear that a lot, so I don’t let it bother me.

I'm a Newt backer, and a Perry backer before that.

My anti-Romney stance is pretty well known here on FR, with literally 1,000’s of posts to back me up. And being from MA, I've seen Romney up close. All that being said, what Santorum said was both incorrect and disqualifies him from POTUS contention, IMO.

As far as supporting any Republican in November goes, I will not vote for Romney or Santorum, period. Obama will win this state going away.

>> The only reason the Newt people are outraged at this comment is because it is just something else the can beat up on him for.

I like Rick. He’s never upset me. I just think his campaign is... well you know I think. Anyway, this one is good for a laugh — even for Rick’s righteous brigade :)

That’s impossible, Santorum is, and I quote, from many a topic, “a stalking horse for Romney”.

Thanks true believer forever.

Apropos of nothing, remember those monks who poured gasoline over themselves and set themselves aflame to protest the Vietnam War?

Your "thank you" was probably being snarky to me, I know, but I don't know what a stalking horse is... Yes, I am almost too stupid to live :) But I am sure am loyal (to Newt).

So you want Romney to be the nominee?

Or what else do you think Santorum getting out will accomplish?

With the possibility of two or three SCOTUS Appointments in the next four years, not Voting for the Republican Nominee is out of the question.

Conservatives can help to influence any Romney picks, just as they derailed Bush's Harriet Meyers debacle, but Obama will not be swayed in his quest to pack the Court with his Commie Sycophants.

It isn't just the next four years, it's the next two Generations that will be influenced by a Liberal Court.

I am outraged everytime Rick Santorum runs his mouth. I am and have been disgusted with his crash and burn mode of campaigning, now against his own party. He is one of the most self-absorbed candidates I have ever seen.

We’re losing elections, anyway! Even when we “win,” we lose, by governing like a bunch of RINOs, instead of as conservatives. Every election cycle it’s the same thing. If social conservatives don’t set aside their principles and cast their ballot for whoever the GOP Establishment dishes up, it will be their fault the liberal wins.

Meanwhile, the issues important to those of us who are social conservatives keep getting paid lip service, at best, campaign after campaign. Sorry, can’t do it anymore. If the Republican establishment doesn’t care about what is important to me, then don’t come asking for my money or my vote.

Santorum Suggests Obama Preferable to “Etch-A-Sketch” Romney
And apparently many here on FR agree ... those that refuse to vote for Romney in the general election if he gets the GOP nomination.

You bet I will not EVER EVER vote for Romney. I will not line up like a good little republican and vote for the chosen one, democrats do that. I will not be used anymore by the gop. We all know they lied, cheated, stole and used fox, coulter, rove,.....like the dems use cnn, abc....If I behave like they want me to, what will it be in 2016? Maybe Dennis Kucinich might want to be a republican, since it no longer the party of Reagan. Romney is sitting there smiling because he knows there are lots of people who will compromise and give him what he wants (after treated our guys like dirt.) He does not care about people, only himself. He will destroy anything and anyone in his way. He knows there will be people who say I hold my nose again; after all we can't stand obama, as he smiles.

I will vote third party or write in a candidate. I really believe if romney gets the nomination a good third party candidate will rise. They have to be better than romney.

I’m sick of the hypocrisy. Reading Santorum’s quote, it’s clear what the point was: There is NO difference between Romney and Obama, and that when faced with the choice of a Socialist/Marxist and Obama-lite, people will always choose the real thing everytime.

MANY people here have said the exact same thing on numerous occasions that Romney is not an acceptable alternative to Obama. And that is what Santorum is essentially saying here. And yet, the FR attacks on Rick continue to make him look like the quote is something bad, when it is in fact the truth.

FUMR! NO ROMNEY, NO WAY!

The republican nominee, whoever it is, whoever it is, is preferable to Obama. Let's just be clear. It will break my heart, but I will do my duty. So don't call me a hypocrite, in fact, you might want to be careful about who you call a hypocrite as a general rule.

Do you ever speak to a Newt supporter in anything but derisive and disrespectful terms?

Yes. The Newt supporters who are not hell bent on slamming Rick at every turn on every thread. What type of kind things did you have in mind when you started the dialog by saying "words fail"? Every time you come out and post MSM spin and Romney talking points about Rick you bet I am going to talk to you that way. We are not going to sit back like potted plants and allow this nonsense to continue unchallenged.

None of us are running to be the president of the United States. What we say, is blowing off steam and speaking our convictions. As much as Newt cannot stand Romney for all of the lies Mitt has done to him, when ask, he says well I want to win but if Romney wins fair out in the process, it's his. Ron Paul is better than Obama, if a juice can is. Rick has become so sure of himself, he thinks nothing can stop him or touch him. Maybe, this will help to open voter's minds to support Newt now.

Sure, Congress will listen to us just like they did on the debt ceiling. Just like they did on the Democrats’ ridiculously short-term tax cut extensions.

Boehner, McConnell, and company are already ignoring us. Do you seriously think that will change if we elect Willard Romney the open socialist, who’s ten times worse than they are? I’ve got news for you: what token opposition we get now will vanish.

Well, Mark Levin, just called out boehner and McConnell big time tonight, said they have to go... some people are finally get a sense of urgency. I mean acute urgency, and I think the Limbaugh stuff ongoing, is just one of the ticks up on the scale...

Obama is a blatant socialist, which means it is easier to forment opposition to his socialist policies. Romney is stealth socialist, who will sugar-coat his socialism to force it down our throats....which makes it more likely under a Romney Administration we would become even more socialist, than even under Obama.

I don't see a public outcry against Obama compared to say George W. Bush's socialism lite. So I don't buy your premise. I think they hated Bush more. I won't vote for either Obama or Romney but there are degrees of bad and I would never willingly vote for a stronger socialist.

Conservatives screwed up and split the vote between Santorum and Gingrich. Conservatives will just need to regroup and get their act together for 2016 because 2012 is gone.
