A Blount County woman arrested on a gun possession charge while visiting New York City has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge, according to the Associated Press.

Meredith Graves, a registered nurse from Louisville, was spared jail time under the plea deal.

She pleaded guilty Monday to criminal possession of a weapon, according to the AP.

Charged with felony gun possession, Graves posted a $2,000 bond and faced a minimum sentence of 3½ years in prison after reportedly requesting to check her loaded, .32-caliber handgun with police at the World Trade Center Memorial on Dec. 22.

what was she thinking? noone ‘forgets’ that they have a
handgun with them.

glad they cut her a break, but a nationwide right to carry law would do away with these islands of insanity.

Will she now lose her rights to own and carry firearms because of Bloomberg’s new trophy indictment?

Why was she even charged? Yet another reason why any enema of the east coast should have the tip inserted in NYC.

It looks like Gov Haslam’s threats of $10,000 fines and jail time for any infraction of TN law no matter how minor by any New Yorker caught in his state worked.

She was allowed to plead to a misdemeanor and a $200 fine.

For her sake, I’m glad she walked on a misdemeanor and I don’t think it will have any effect on her rights or her carry permit here in TN. I do wonder, though, if this could set up an “equal protection” argument against NYC’s enforcement of their corrupt and repressive gun laws?

Yep, put New Jersey, Illinois, and Massachusetts on the list as well as a few more states.

Hope it doesn't affect her, but Im not sure how the Biden gun control law will affect her now.

I do wonder, though, if this could set up an “equal protection” argument against NYC’s enforcement of their corrupt and repressive gun laws?

Need a lawyer to answer that one.

RI, MD, DE. I think it's a toss up as to which state has the most repressive gun laws, NY or MA. Both suck.

If politicians pass enough laws every good citizen becomes a bad criminal. This woman never should have been charged.

“She DEFINITELY looks “Not Guilty” to me!!”

Yeah, fancy that a thin nurse! Just in the local ER with a relative. 90% of the nurses waddled! Someone explain to me how you can be a “healthcare professional” and look like one of the Tons of Fun!

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you don't have a concealed carry license.

I do.

So does my wife.

A person with a concealed carry becomes so comfortable that you do in fact forget it's there.

When you perceive danger you immediately remember you have a weapon and it's quite comforting. Otherwise the familiarity of the weight of the weapon is such an everyday thing you don't give it a second thought.

It is quite possible to forget you have a weapon, because you don't fear it or feel uncomfortable about being armed.

I have often walked into 'restricted' places armed, not even thinking about my weapon. There is a sudden realization 'Uh oh!' that I imagine this woman felt. The mistake is then trying to talk to someone about your 'Uh oh' moment.

Just roll with it (the weapon IS concealed!) or leave, but never tell on yourself.

You are out on a limb. I do have a CPW (WA).

I don’t forget for a minute that I have it with me,
and neither should anyone else.

Insanity is the problem. I read somewhere that about 75% of New York City dwellers are certifiable nut jobs.

Hmmph.

Noob then?

Anyway, if you've carried a while you've performed an 'oops' and you know what I'm talking about.

Otherwise, you're simply too uptight to be carrying because your nervousness gives you away.
