Springfield (MA) schools approve policy that could provide condoms for 12-year-olds

The Springfield School Committee has given first-step approval to a policy that would make condoms available to students as young as 12.

The committee voted 5-1 Thursday night in favor of the "Comprehensive Reproductive Health Policy" in an effort to prevent sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy. The policy also includes a provision for student counseling.

The policy also allows parents "to deny permission (opt out) for access to condoms for their students."

It still needs a second vote of approval before it is final.

The "Opt-out" option always gets my blood boiling. The default should be "out" with an option to "opt-in" for parents that are paying attention and want their kids to get condoms and whatnots... at those parent's expense, of course.

As a compromise, can they just send them to the kids’ fathers, assuming there is any idea who that might be.

The “public school” is BY FAR, the largest, most expensive, most subversive, and most destructive entitlement program in the country.

The “public school” is better understood as the “government school collective”.

It is silly to imagine that you can fix the public schools, because the very concept itself is communist.

If you want to win the culture war, have lots of children (see my tagline) and homeschool them or form your own school cooperative with your church or synagogue and like-minded friends and relatives.

If you have children, make whatever sacrifices you must to get them out of the public schools.

DO NOT FEED THE BEAST!

Especially not with your own children.

SOOOOOO, you cannot drink legally until you are 21, you cannot vote legally until you are 18, in many states you cannot drive legally until you are 16, but you CAN go get a condom from a school, encouraging sex and possible teenage pregnancies and subsequent teenage abortions at the age of 12!!! That makes sense! You know, come to think about it, we legislate everything else, why not just make it illegal to have sex until you are 16 or 18?

There is also a federally funded program to give them condoms by mail without parents knowledge.

Our government and schools are complicit in grooming kids for pedophiles

"I don't care if the school nurse said
it's okay. Look what that thing is for!"

or . . .

"The school has lots of them pinned to a
cork board in the nurse's office. It must
be okay. I don't know why none of them
seem to have worked."

My opinion: Anyone too young, too shy, or too poor to ask for and buy their own condoms has no business having sex. Handing them out like candy, when schools can't even give out an Aspirin, implies that it's okay. If the kid is that young, it's not okay, and the schools should be reinforcing that message. No matter what Fluke claims, 5th and 6th grade kids are perfectly capable of waiting until they are older - as are ugly, self-centered 30 year-olds.

Their children’s souls, or free-babysitting.

The choice isn’t just easy, it usually doesn’t even merit consideration.

The left is giving me whiplash; first all those years of making sure 3rd graders could put condoms on bananas and then it was the war on women by not giving them birth control, and now we are back to children and condoms.

Please make up your morally bankrupt minds!

I know you omitted your ‘/sarcasm’ tag, but “statutory rape” is sex with a minor (under the age of consent) - and yes it is a law in every state (although the age can vary by a year or two)

An (unintended?) consequence will be the exponential increase in the number of disease-laden used condoms already littering the streets and sidewalks (and left behind on picnic tables in public parks).

Depraved liberalism strike again.

This is just another example of r/K Selection Theory in Biology.

In nature, whenever you take a population of any organism, and remove any competitive test for fitness prior to mating and reproduction, you get an increasingly r-selected populace. In that environment, the only trait Darwin favors is speed of offspring production. Since there is no test of fitness prior to reproduction, there is no selective stress favoring ability (or adaptation). As a result, fifteen retarded offspring (all of whom produce fifteen retarded offsprign themselves) are better from a Darwinian standpoint than one genius offspring, who only produces one genius offspring himself.

Individuals within r-selected populations have four main characteristics. Conflict and competition aversion/pacifism, Promiscuity/rejection of monogamy, Embrace of low-investment single-parenting, and acceptance/embrace of early mating activity in the young. Yes, Liberalism is just an intellectual manifestation of this primitive Darwinian psychology.

All of these are traits which speed/maximize offspring production - at the expense of evolutionary advancement.

We have eliminated the need for individuals to demonstrate responsibility or ability to produce prior to mating, we do not punish those who produce children without being able to support them, and we have even rewarded with copious welfare, those who mate as often as possible, and produce as many unproductive offspring as possible.

We are in the midst of a period of r-selection, and our population’s psychology is showing it.

In nature, r-selection continues until a population reaches the carrying capacity of the environment, at which point, there are not enough resources to go around, and resource scaricty begins to appear. (Sound familiar with today’s economy/debt crisis?). At this point, one will need to compete with peers for resources, and the less productive, more r-type psychologies will be culled.

In nature, this produces a K-selected psychology, which is noted as containing four psychological characteristics. Competitiveness/aggression, Embrace of monogamy, delaying sexual activity until fully mature, and performing high-investment two-parent child rearing. Here the environment favors the fittest, and those parents who work hard to make a few, highly fit offspring win while the fifteen retards who produce fifteen retards are culled. And yes, this primitive Darwinian psychology is the forerunner to all of modern Conservatism.

We have had a long period absent resource shortages, and our population’s psychology has shifted towards a more r-type psychology. After the coming hardships, we will tend more towards K-type behavior, and this will be naturally corrected, though it will not be pleasant, especially for the r-types who will either have to die, or leave for more socialist environs overseas.

Feel free to point this all out to any r-type Liberal familiar with Biology - it will give them fits. r-selected organisms are well noted as inferior in every regard to K-types, as their rejection of competitive tests of fitness leaves them lacking ability and adaptation. The linkage between Conservatism and K-selection and Liberalism and r-selection will be more than they can take.

Yay! You caught the hypocrisy of my comment. The kids in these public schools are not supposed to be having sex "but they are going to do it anyway" so principals may as well make sure they are doing it safe. Next, principals will designate classrooms as after school party centers for illegal drinking since they are going to do that anyway too.

Schools will soon assign kids to have sex as homework.... I wonder if they’ll be an opt out or if it’ll be a “don’t tell your parents” thing.

In 2001, one of the most notorious episodes of “South Park” aired and took on this very topic. Eleven years ago it was satire. Now it’s fact.
