(CBS News) President Obama's approval rating has hit the lowest level ever in CBS News polling, according to the latest CBS News/New York Times survey. The drop may be partially attributable to rising gas prices.

Just 41 percent of Americans approve of the job Mr. Obama is doing as president, according to the poll, conducted from March 7 to 11. Another 47 percent disapprove of his performance, up from 41 percent last month.

Mr. Obama's approval rating was 50 percent last month.

The average U.S. price of a gallon of gasoline has jumped 12 cents over the past two weeks. The poll found that most Americans, 54 percent, believe gas prices are something a president can do a lot about.

Mr. Obama's job rating on the economy remains about the same as it was last month - 39 percent approve, while 54 percent disapprove.

The economy and jobs remains the most important problem facing the country today, according to 51 percent of Americans. Three in four Americans think the economy is at least somewhat bad, including 30 percent who say it is very bad.

More Americans, 30 percent, say the economy is getting better; 24 percent say it is getting worse. The public's economic outlook was slightly better last month, when 34 percent said the economy was getting better.

Just 20 percent of Americans feel their family's financial situation is better today than it was four years ago. Another 37 percent say it is worse, and 43 percent say it is about the same.

I don't put much stock in left-wing biased media polls, though it's interesting to see CBS/New York Times is now echoing the ABC/Washington Post poll released yesterday showing Obama's job approval is tanking. (The latter poll is reporting that strong disapproval of Obama is now at an all-time high.)

How delicious that this was pounded into the public's head as an indisputable fact by the Democrats and their media allies to attack Bush - now it's coming back home to roost.

The lame stream media does this every election. About Sept., his polls numbers will rise and every idiot will want to be on the winning side. Can you say, “The come back moron!”

Hey President Dumba$$, I'd prefer free gas instead of free birth control. Just sayin.

*Just 41% approve*

Still way too high since they don’t pay the national bills.

Welfare and ObamaBucks is not serving them enough ice cream and cash.

They’ll try, but I don’t think it’s going to work.

that certainly is a more all-inclusive, pro-diversity sort of policy.

Yes America, we are this simple.

Don't screw with the price of gas or beer.

That's 15% off the top...maybe 25%.

Most Americans don't comprehend the other stuff.

But they will sign up with somebody, credible, who says they can bring back $2.50 gas. That's more than they would get from some new "program".

I believe this thrust will work.

Gingrich is showing signs of genius. Too bad 60% of the people in America don't like him. Maybe more.

Despite the bias of the ABC News and CBS News polls, it's now starting to become increasingly obvious that the sudden rise in the price of motor fuels in the last 45 days has sent pocketbook issues back to the forefront again--especially with the prospect of the return of stagflation: higher inflation combined with no economic growth and higher unemployment. This was one of the two main problems--the other being the Iran hostage crisis--that ended President Carter's chances of re-election in 1980.

Perhaps, but Obama is not Clinton. He does not have the charm, however phony, that Bubba possessed and that helped him ride out whatever calamities he created for himself. Obama is an uber-serious policy wonk with a Mussolini complex. How many photos of this guy do we have with his nose pointed in the air? Quite a few, and I'm sure many Americans have seen these photos. Not to mention all the photos where Obama has a scowl on his face, no doubt a tell of his hatred of this country.

I would say that, bottom line, if a majority of voters can look at the GOP candidate and say to themselves, "OK, I can picture this guy as president", then I think Obama is toast. But who knows, maybe he won't be the candidate since there was some statistic related to a sitting president's approval rating that is something like any incumbent prez with an approval of 43% or lower has never won re-election. Right now, Obama is below that but March isn't over yet.

That’s why I’m pretty much taking the poll with a grain of salt. Even though I think it presents a more accurate snapshot of the American public’s mood than a typical CBS/New York Times poll where Democrat participants vastly outnumber those of Republicans, I have no doubt these left-wing biased media pollsters will release a follow-up poll in the coming months showing Obama surging and becoming the “heavy favorite” to win re-election. Still, it appears Obama’s troubles right now are too grandiose for even the lamestream media to ignore.

They have something up their sleeve, in terms of a domestic economy “October Suprise” which I feel necessarily involves the participation and conspiracy with other nations, who wish Obama and the Obama system to continue in the US in slink towards Pan-Euro Socialism. They will link arms behind doors to somehow make it happen. Depress things now to make him low in the polls, than have it catapult up to skyrocketing high levels, along with a strong anti-GOP MSM narrative non stop, a little bit of race card, and some (yes!) “white guilt” left over from 2008 recycled into 2012, plus black pride and registering the dead to vote, bussing in illegal immigrants by the truckload to vote, etc. etc. and voila! goodbye to the Country we once loved and knew.
